Infinitives and infinitive clauses in Spanish with regard to the acquisition of structures

This bachelor thesis is focused on the infinitive, its function in the sentence and the construction that the infinitive can form. The thesis is divided into two parts, firstly, the theoretical part, which builds the theoretical foundation for the practical part. The theoretical part aims to repeat impersonal forms in Spanish and specifically focuses on the infinitive and the constructions that are formed with the infinitive. In the practical part we summarize important points from the theoretical part and we are going to focus on the very goal of this bachelor thesis. The aim of this work is to design an annotation system for later use in the analysis of works in the student corpus, followed by its testing on several student works. The work is supplemented by a table with an overview of expected knowledge about the infinitive at different language levels according to the Plan Curricular de Instituto Cervantes (PCIC).

Implicit subordinate clauses with infinitive in Italian

This thesis deals with implicit subordinate clauses with infinitive in Italian. In the first chapter there is a description of some terms regarding these clauses (infinitive, subordination and coordination, expliciteness and implicitness, congruence of subjects of main and subordinate clause etc.). The second chapter presents a classification of all kinds of implicite clauses with infinitive, including the restrictions of their formation. The third chapter deals with explicite kinds of subordinate clauses. The last chapter is more practical, because it is dedicated to the possibilities of translation of the Italian subordinate clauses with infinitiv into Czech. The substantivised infinitive in French

v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with the substantivised infinitive in contemporary French. After defining the basic terms (noun, infinitive and substantivisation) the characteristics of the lexicalized subtantivised infinitives and the related infinitive forms are observed in detail. Both of these categories are analyzed from the semantic, morphological, syntactic and marginally also diachronic perspective with simultaneous consultation of authoritative French grammars, dictionaries and other scholar works. The second part which is the actual focus of the work concentrates on marginally used substantivized infinitives which have not been lexicalised yet. The research is carried out on the basis of the French corpus FRANTEXT.

Syntax of the Czech Translation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Work

v anglickém jazyce The diploma thesis Syntax of the Czech Translation of J. R. R. Tolkien's Work is based on a comparative linguistic study concentrated on the Czech and English nonfinite verb forms and the possibilities of their usage. The thesis is founded on the analysis of selected grammatical features in John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's Silmarillion and The Hobbit, and their translations by Stanislava Pošustová and František Vrba. The examples of non-finite verb forms working as different sentence elements are preceded by a short theoretical introduction which is supposed to provide a background for the comparison of their usage. Similar examples are organized and analysed together. Within a single chapter the samples were sequenced according to the frequency in usage of the type of their translation. Apart from comparing the original with its translation it is also possible to see the differences between concrete realisations of one grammatical feature in English, and to take into account the differences between the work of the two translators. Title: Nonfinite Verb Forms as Semipredicates in Russian, Czech and German. A Typological View. Author: Jana Kocková Supervisor: doc. Dr. phil. Markus Giger Abstract: This research paper presents a comprehensive picture of nonfinite verb forms in Russian, Czech and German supported by a corpus analysis based on the parallel corpus InterCorp CNC. Equivalents of each of the nonfinite verb forms were analysed manually in each of the monitored languages. The data obtained served for typological classification focused on nonfinite verb forms as secondary predicates. Different frequencies of the individual forms and mutual competition of various means in language also indirectly result from the analysis. In Czech we may observe generally a strong tendency to express the semiprediaction by means of a finite verb form in a sentence structure. As regards non finite verb forms, the actively used forms are participle and verbal nouns, i.e. forms which relate to the existing partofspeech paradigms. Due to being inflectional they express explicitly syntactic relations. Czech uses the possibility to express the secondary predication by means that are not contrary to morphological regularities of the inflectional type. The Construction pour + Infinitive in French and Its Equivalents in Czech

v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with the infinitive prepositional construction "pour + infinitive" in the french language whilst taking in an account of its czech equivalents. After defining the basics terms (infinitive, subject of the infinitive, syntactic functions of the infinitive, non-finite dependent clauses) it watches closely the infinitive construction "pour + infinitive" in the function of adverbial and it`s semantical interpretations it could have. The second part of the thesis is focused on corpus analysis of this construction. The analysis of the data from linguistic corpuses enables us to determine the frequention of the examined construction in various genres and determine some of its basic quantitative features (lexical occupation, morphological characteristics etc.). This basic analysis enables us to identify the possible specifications of samples of the occurence from paralel corpus InterCorp, from which we make a detailed analysis of the factors that can interfere with the semantical interpretation of given construction and the selection of its translation counterpart in the czech language, where a similar structure does not exist in the language system. Syntactic, semantic and stylistic aspects of the subject of the infinitive

The diploma thesis is concerned with syntactic, semantic and stylistic aspects of the subject of the infinitive. The aim is to examine all forms of realization of the infinitival subject, and to investigate relation between the syntactic function of the infinitive and the form and semantics of its subject. Furthermore, the thesis attempts to characterise and compare fiction and academic prose in terms of realization of the subject of the infinitive. In the theoretical part of the study, the infinitive is introduced as one of the means of complex condensation, and is discussed from a formal and functional point of view. Further, a general characterisation of the subject of the infinitive is presented, focusing on various forms of its realization and on its interpretation. The main part of the study, the corpus-based research, consists in a detailed analysis of 200 instances of an infinitival clause collected from the British National Corpus. Since the study focuses on two different registers, the material is analysed for each of them separately. In the last part of the analysis, the registers are subsequently compared in terms of distribution of syntactic functions of the infinitive and realization of the infinitival subject.

French Infinitive and its Role in Special Discourse.

French infinitive is an indefinite verb form which does not reflect the morphological categories of person, number and mode, but is able to express the category of gender and relative chronology. The infinitive is aspect-nonspecific and not able to express tenses, which are related to the moment of realization of speech/discourse. From the syntactic point of view infinitive can act as a primary or secondary predicate. As the secondary predicate, French infinitive is one of the linguistic means capable of forming semi-predicative constructions. In special discourse, due to the above-mentioned characteristic functions, French infinitive serves as an important condenser and also contributes to other requirements of special discourse, its impersonal character and timeless validity.
