The Bartered Bride and its Use in Music Education at Primary Shool

DIPLOMA THESIS The Bartered Bride and its Use in Music Education at Primary School Petra Prýmková ABSTRACT The diploma thesis deals with the opera The Bartered Bride by Bedřich Smetana and its pedagogical interpretation in music education at primary school. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the concept of didactic interpretation, which relies heavily on the musical analysis of the chosen opera. The analytical section includes a description of the composer's musical language and a brief introduction to his life. The musical analysis presents the origins, performance, libretto, cast and other historical and social aspects of the opera. The musical analysis focuses on those parts of The Bartered Bride that are essential for the use of the musical work and its didactic interpretation in the music education process. The practical part of the thesis provides a didactic interpretation of selected parts of Smetana's work. A group of primary school students serves as a sample. The outcome of the thesis is a set of didactic materials that can be used as an inspirational source for future and current music teachers at the primary school level. Concert Overtures Nature, Life, and Love op. 91-93 by Antonín Dvořák

The submitted thesis deals with Antonín Dvořák's trilogy of concert overtures Nature, Life and Love, Op. 91-93. After summarising the current state of research in existing literature followed by the overview of music and non-musical sources, the overture - and mainly concert overture - is depicted as a music genre and Antonín Dvořák's overtures are presented in general. Integral element of the thesis is a summarization of circumstances of the given works' origin and thus also putting them into the context of composer's oeuvre. However the focus of the thesis lies in a musical-analytical insight into each of the three overtures (In Nature's Realm, Op. 91 [B 168], Carnival, Op. 92 [B 169], Othello, Op. 93 [B 174]), where the author also takes their existing analyses into account and pays attention to their genesis according to the sources. Giuseppe Sarti's Operatic Arias in Prague Collections

This bachelor thesis deals with the occurence of operatic arias of Italian composer Giuseppe Sarti in Prague. The starting point of this work is research of the archive resources of the basic Prague institutions and consequential creating of the list of all available sources. On this basis three most numerous arias are chosen and they are farther remited to musical and textual analyse. Thanks to this analysis it is possible to get closer to Sarti's way of musical composition, in general then to gain evidences of Italina opera during the Classic period. Moreover this analysis provide an opportunity for better understanding of musical conventions and taste in Bohemia in late 18th century. Oratorio Santa Cecilia by Antonio Draghi

The bachelor thesis deals with the oratorio Santa Cecilia by Antonio Draghi (1634 - 1700). The paper also summarizes the present knowledge about Draghi and his work, deals with the origins of the oratorio in Italy and the adoption and development of its tradition in Vienna during the 17th century. The thesis also focuses on the legend of Saint Cecily as a theme in music and includes the edition of selected arias and one ensemble of this oratorio. F. V. Habermann: Philomela pia, sive missae sex

This bachelor thesis deals with the mass cycle Philomela pia by František Václav Habermann (1706-1783), a composer being nowadays mentioned primarily in connection with G. F. Handel, who used some of Habermann's music fragments in his own works. The paper summarizes the present knowledge of Habermann's biography and works, listing all the source materials of this mass cycle as well, but the central focus is on two analytical chapters. The first of them attempts to cover the basic parameters of Habermann's masses and puts them to the Central European as well as Italian musical context, the second one contains a detailed study of the technique and the extent of Handel's reworkings of Habermann's music, together with a comparison of the compositional techniques of both composers. It deals with an art song on the territory of the then England, and compares the contribution of the chosen authors. Partly, this thesis focuses on the aspect of interpretation and singing.
