Negotiating consent and sexual intimacy in the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis entitled Negotiating consent and sexual intimacy in the Czech Republic is devoted to sexual consent and its problematic definition. The aim of the thesis is to find out how experts in the field of criminal law, specifically lawyers, perceive the limits of consensual behavior in the Czech Republic. Lawyers play a key role in shaping the legal system and have a great influence on public attitudes. The thesis focuses on the definition of sexual consent and the factors that influence the definition of sexual consent in society. These factors include cultural attitudes, social myths, sexual scripts and the legal system of a given society. The thesis is further focused on sexual consent in the field of criminal law, on the definition of rape in the Czech legal system and on its practical shortcomings. The possibility of redefinition of rape and the influence of participants in criminal proceedings on this issue are analyzed. The practical part is aimed at lawyers who deal with criminal law. The thesis is focused on the "weaknesses" of the current legal system, and it was examined how lawyers who navigate the legal system evaluate the currently set system, how they define sexual consent and its transgression, how they frame the social discussion and how their gender ideas manifest...

Coping with the COVID-19 pandemic among academic mothers

The diploma thesis deals with coping with the COVID-19 pandemic among academic mothers. The aim of the thesis is to discover how female academics dealt with the global crisis, specifically in relation to the combination of personal and professional life. The thesis considers the criteria of academic excellence and examines whether coping with the pandemic differed between excellent and non-excellent academics. Additionally, the thesis studies academic work in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic in two distinct scientific fields; STEM and SSH, and simultaneously in two types of academic institutions; public universities and Czech Academy of Science. In order to answer the research objectives, a qualitative methodology, specifically semi-structured interviews, were used. Qualitative methodology enabled identify key factors that had an impact on the coping with the pandemic among academic mothers. The research method also allowed us to obtain information for comparing a predetermined category. The research revealed three dimensions that alongside contribute to the ability of female academics to deal with the pandemic. Gender inequalities in Kenya

The topic of this thesis is a gender inequality in Kenya. The main goal is to identify a Kenya's position within the East African Community in term sof gender inequality. The position is identified through descriptive comparison of gender indexes and other indicators, and furthermore through their achieved results within the Millennium Development Goals, particularly those focused on gender issues. Another comparison is held among the members states of East African Community on the basis of government's approach towards such issues. Second goal of the thesis is to analyse the gender inequality in Kenya. Specifically the main causes and factors which influence the inequality in Kenya. I tis important as the causes and factors of such inequality have negative effect on the relation between socio-economic growth and decreasing gender inequality. In other words, the thesis analyses the gender inequality on two level - "externalʼʼ (international comparison) and "internalʼʼ (discussion of the conditionality of gender inequality in Kenya). Women's Rights in the Middle East and their Perception in Czechia

Women's rights in the Islamic world are a questionable topic. Significant differences between individual countries and regions are often not taken into account and many reasons and factors that generate such conditions for women are being neglected. This presented bachelor thesis aims at presenting the status of women in the Middle East on the basis of statistical data in comparison with men. The second part intends to confront these results with the feelings and opinions of employs of Czech non-governmental organisations who visited the Middle East. The thesis presents economic rights, civil rights, political rights, education and health of women in 21 selected countries of the region, together with the interpretation of possible causes and factors limiting women's rights. The influence of religion on the status of women in selected countries The diploma thesis comes from theoretical concepts of feminist geography, geography of religion and from the research of gender inequalities. It tries to analyze the influence of selected religions on the status of women in the society and to compare Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and those without religion in this field. It comes from a thought, that gender equality is an important element for social and economical development of the state and for democracy. The key research topic for this thesis is how extensive influence the religion has on the status of woman in the society. Based on quantitative analysis of data from 41 chosen states of the world, the thesis endeavours to judge the impact of religion on the status of women in terms of social, political and economical level. One of the premises of the thesis is a presumption, that the status of women is the best in society where the majority of population is without religion, then in Christian society, Buddhist and Hinduism society and the worst in Muslim society. Based on results of statistical analysis it may be stated, that involvement of women in the public sphere has a positive impact on the socio-economical development of the state. Gender Inequalities in Family Budget Management

There is a well-documented income inequality among Czech women and men. It affects family life as well for the parenthood role is still assigned primary to women while men are considered to be rather breadwinners. This thesis concerns the problem of defining roles in formation and management of family budget. The main goal was to discover how spouses define their role in financial providing for the family while maintaining mutual consensus among themselves. The research was based on the theoretical perspective of symbolic interactionism as proposed by Scott R. Harris. Based on this research it is possible to claim that parenthood is an important object for understanding the family position of spouses. Before the respondents became parents their share of providing for family's expenditures was defined by themselves as equal. But parenthood deviated this balance and caused that men were defined as breadwinners while women were defined mainly as mothers. According to questioned parents this division occurred spontaneously or was easily agreed on. But in the process of formation of such division there could be identified an underlying influence of society's gender order. The thesis Motivation of girls for studying Science and Technology Universities deals with the problem of the low number of the girls on the Science and Technology Universities. It explores how the girls get motivated, what are the influences in the process of choosing the university and what factors influence them the most. The thesis tries to find out the degree of the influence of the socialization like family, the school and the teachers, friends and the classmates and other, such as the possibility of the future employment. It then tries to explore the amount of influence that is done by society and stereotypes and differencies between girls and boys natural characteristics. The research was divided into two parts, at first I made interviews with the girls that already study at the Science and Technology universities, then I did the questionnaire inquiry with girls from the last grade in the highschools. After the data analysis and writing the findings, I get to the final discussion and interpretation.
