Predicting Achievement of Selected Sustainable Development Goals
Kamenický, Léon ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Cazachevici, Alina (referee)
Bibliographic note KAMENICKÝ, Léon. Predicting Achievement of Selected Sustainable De- velopment Goals. Prague 2019. 66 pp. Bachelor thesis (Bc.) Charles Uni- versity, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Economic Studies. Thesis supervisor doc. Ing. Tomáš Cahlík, CSc. Abstract The aim of this thesis is through using the appropriate tools of econometric analysis to identify some of the variables having impact on the development, whether positively or negatively, on selected Sustainable Development Goals. They became part of the agenda in United Nations back in 2015. As the sample used for the analysis contains observations on around 170 countries in a time period from 2000 till 2016, the panel data approach for economet- ric modeling is the most suitable to rely on. There are plenty econometric studies focused on analyzing the SGDs through cross-sectional examples, however only few of them are looking at them from a global perspective. The main findings of the analysis do not include only statistically significant explanatory variables identified. Supported by a concrete example, there is an evidence that some of the goals require more focus on proper data collect- ing on their corresponding indicator. This turns some of them to be hardly measurable and the simple tools of econometric analysis...
The significance of gender audit by asserting equal opportunities for women and men: the Česká spořitelna, a.s. company case study
Čechová, Miroslava ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Šprincová, Veronika (referee)
This dissertation is a case study of Česká spořitelna, a. s. It shows the significance of gender audit by asserting equal opportunities for women and men. The theoretical part introduces how gender equality could be asserted and also summarizes how the concept has (not) been practically fulfilled (particularly in the area of labour market). It emphasizes the gender audit as one of the possible tools of change when asserting the gender equality. The empirical part of this dissertation is investigating the significance of gender audit for asserting the equal opportunities in Česká spořitelna, a. s. Therefore it analyzes a final report of the first gender audit and compares its design with another final report that came out of the second implemented gender audit. It also analyzes the processes the company adopted after the first gender audit to promote the equal opportunities for women and men. The impacts and the efficiency of the measures (either proposed or implemented) are analyzed critically with regard to their influence on the gender equality.
Gender aspects of parental choise of traditional and Montessori kindergarten
Kučerová Uriková, Dana ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee)
The thesis deals with gender aspects of parental choice of common and Montessori kindergarten. The theoretical part focuses on topics related to both gender identity and its development and with the preschool period, which is described primarily in terms of gender. Given that important parts of childhood are toys, the theoretical part also focuses on the gender aspect and explores it. Gender equality is offered as one of the possible approaches to children upbringing and education. The Montessori method of education occupies a large space of the theoretical part. The thesis also compares Montessori kindergartens with common kindergartens. Research of the thesis is based on a qualitative analysis of interviews with mothers of children in the pre-school and early school age. This analysis goes through all the interviews. It searches and then compares common categories. The research shows that parents choosing a kindergarten for their child do not reflect forms of gender socialization in the kindergarten. Alternative kindergarten is often chosen by parents of children who apply elements of gender- sensitive education in their upbringing. Parents, who chose child Montessori kindergarten for their child, have more specific and clearly defined selection criteria than parents collecting common...

Sexual double standard or different evaluation of sexual behaviour of men and women
Schreinerová, Veronika ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Andresová, Nela (referee)
The bachelor's thesis "Sexual double standard or different evaluation of sexual behavior of men and women" deals with the phenomenon, which assumes that men and women are evaluated differently for the same sexual behavior. The work aims to find out whether this phenomenon of sexual double standard occurs among students of technical and humanities universities and eventually, whether there is any difference between groups of students in its occurrence. The work also deals with different attitudes to sexuality between students, but also between men and women and also focuses on the influences that shape attitudes or just that double standard. These influences include religious orientation or age. The work also briefly presents the trends of sexual behavior of the Czech population or the connection of the double standard phenomenon with gender stereotypes. The work is divided into theoretical and practical parts. While the theoretical part presents the main theories that explain the phenomenon - evolutionary theory, social role theory, and sexual script theory, the practical part presents quantitative research, which was carried out using online questionnaire survey and helped clarify research questions and especially whether the phenomenon appears in the surveyed sample of respondents. The conclusion...
Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech Republic
Koudelka, Pavel
Title: Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech republic Author: Mgr. Pavel Koudelka Department: Department of Demography and Geodemography Statistics Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Jitka Rychtaříková, CSc. Abstract: Profound changes are occurring in the relations between men and women in European families and societies, a transformation that is referred to as the 'gender revolution'. Considering the unprecedented drop in fertility, some important questions may be asked: in a more egalitarian society/family, could we expect a rise in the birth rate? Does men's participation in housework and child- care have an impact on the number of children born (in a family)? Czech society is slowly adapting to gender equality, but this is more apparent in the general mood and opinions than in the reality of households and families. We drew on two waves of a panel study Generations & Gender Survey (GGS) performed in the Czech republic and compared the information about the real involvement of men in households in which (a number of) children were born in between the waves. This is an advantage of GGS over similar studies: we have information about real- ity, real facts, and not only values and attitudes to gender equality or the number of children a...
Analysis of the level of women´s empowerment in Southeast Asia and suggestions for further improvement
Pauschková, Nikola
The diploma thesis proceeds from the well-established theoretical assumption that the empowerment of women and promotion of gender equality is not only moral goal in itself but also the only way towards development of a nation as it, in the end, benefits the entire society. Case study, tracking the progress of women´s empowerment in ten countries of Southeast Asia over the last 25 years was used to provide for clear comparison. Further examination of the five selected indicators of women´s empowerment - adolescent fertility, contraceptive prevalence, total fertility, employment and political representation - revealed both the strongest and the weakest parts of each country. These findings were later used to propose tailored measures and policies, implementation of which could lead to further empowerment of women in Southeast Asia.
Political participation of women in Rwanda and post-conflict rebuilding
Miščiková, Zuzana
The number of women represented in Rwandan politics has increased significantly since the 1994 genocide, making Rwanda one of the leading countries, in terms of women's representation in parliament. The country has thus earned the attention of both international media and researchers. After the genocide, the social, cultural and political structure of the country was destroyed. Women at that time accounted for almost 70% of the total population and have since then been forced to take on the roles that previously belonged to men. This thesis is focused on the role of women and their political participation in Rwanda’s post-conflict reconstruction and reconciliation of the country’s society after the genocide. Since the end of the genocide, Rwanda has taken several steps towards improving gender equality by implementing multiple policies and laws which has led to an increase in the political participation of women. Government measures have, however, failed to change traditional cultural norms. The focus of this thesis is to show how women have contributed to the post-conflict reconstruction of the country by analysing selected issues and how their position in society has changed after the adoption of the new constitution and laws that promote gender equality.
Reconciling work and family life
Balvínová, Lucie ; Štangová, Věra (advisor) ; Vysokajová, Margerita (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The current European family is based on the ideal of gender equality and considers the interest of the child to be fundamental. The European Union strategy is to involve as many women as possible in the labour market and encourages national governments to adopt measures to enable women to reconcile their work and care for children. Developed countries also promote both parents being equally involved in the care of children, including preschool children. Czech legislation conforms to European standards and creates the preconditions for reconciling family and work life. In practice, the conservative attitude of both parents and employers persists. The mother usually stays at home with a child under the age of three and employers are not very accommodating to flexible forms of work that enable mothers of young children to get involved in the work process. The way to change the situation is to increase corporate social responsibility and family friendliness and to change the attitudes of parents themselves, increasing the involvement of fathers in care of children in particular. Solutions to the protection and support of pregnancy, maternity and parenthood, as well as the protection of the child in the Czech Republic can be considered as above-standard and comparable to the situation in the most...
