Viktorinová, Lucie ; Havelková, Hana (advisor) ; Kepplová, Zuzana (referee)
The central question of this diploma thesis is, whether sexisms is a commonplace phenomenon of our society, how does this phenomenon appears in our public discourse of present-day society and how can we identify it. The diploma thesis searches the answers for this question mainly in theories of radical feminism, which are part of the second feministic wave, in present theories concerning sexism and patriarchy, in present theories about mens` lifestyle magazines and in an empirical research. Radical feminism` theories specify the manifestations of sexism. The current theories unfold the strategies through which is sexism ventilated. The empirical research then includes an analysis of Czech lifestyle magazine for men Maxim, specifically the analysis of 23 articles selected from one complete volume of this magazine, specifically 2012. The method of coding according to Strauss and Corbin was chosen as the key method. Based on the scope of this method (the selective coding part) the central category was identified and named as Women as an opponent. Its characterization and dimensional scales (in form of variable strategies) were defined as well. Key words Sexism, gender, gender order, discourse, patriarchy, mens` lifestyle magazines, Maxim, irony, axial and selective coding.
Power of ideology: Selective Gray's and Gruber's constructs
Rottenbornová, Zdeňka ; Havelková, Hana (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the analysis of two popular psychological handbooks focusing on relationships between men and women, namely the book "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus" by American psychologist J. Gray, and the Czech equivalent "Why women can't understand men" by D. Gruber. The main research question of this thesis is how gender stereotypes are created in popular psychology literature and by what means they become naturalized. The theoretical starting point is both the influence of popular psychology on its audience as well as the introduction of the basic concepts in their relation to gender as an analytic category, gender order, gender stereotypes and mechanisms of forming and maintaining masculinity and femininity. Empirical research presents qualitative content analysis and discourse analysis of "Why men are from Mars", women are from Venus compared with the Czech book "Why women can't understand men". The research mainly focuses on how these two authors work with gender stereotypes about men and women and their forming of seemingly everlasting and universal gender binarism.
Teachers' approach to pupils with atypical gender
Tedy k dětem, kteří nesplňují představu "správné" dívky či "správného" chlapce z hlediska genderového řádu společnosti a nějakým způsobem se těmto představám vymykají (v rovině osobnostní, vzhledové či behaviorální).
Unmasculine Boys in School Peer Groups
Klimešová, Hana ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Kadlecová, Eva (referee)
My Bachelor Thesis deals with the status in a student group of boys who possess unmasculine behaviours, apperace and characteristics. I studied how pupils, both girls and boys and teachers behave towards unmasculine boys, how these boys are accepted, or not, into groups, and how boys with unmasculine characteristics experience their status in a group of pupils. Outcomes of my research are (1) groups of pupils set aside unmasculine boys because male and female pupils judge boys with unmasculine chracteristics in accord with the gender order, and also with the pupil's group norms, and (2) unmasculine boys doesn't feel happy and aren't satisfied with their status in the group of pupils. My thesis consists of two parts: firstly a theoretical part and secondly, empirical. The theoretical part provides information concerning gender issues. In the first chapter I present fundamental terms such as gender order, masculinity and femininity, and the development of a gender's identity. In the second chapter I deal with gender role violation of boys, and with the possible reactions of society as a consequence of this violation. In the third chapter I occupy with a pupil's group as a social group, and with school's influence on both male and female pupils. In the empirical part I deal with my research which is...

MARTINA HYNKOVÁ: ‚JINÉ SVĚTY' ŽEN JAZZOVÉ SEKCE V OBDOBÍ TZV. NORMALIZACE ABSTRACT This master thesis deals with the Jazz section of the Musicians' Union in the normalization period. It was an amateur organization which existed from 1971 until 1986. It took an active part in the area of jazz and united an extensive jazz community. The thesis aims at gender aspects of female Jazz section's activities and roles. The research question can be formulated as follows: Which strategies of living did female members of the Jazz section choose during the normalization? The thesis is based on a biographical method consisting of six interviews with former female members of the Jazz section. Those interviews were made via an episodic narrative interview. The author revealed the following strategies of living: accession to the Jazz section community, being an active member of the community, going abroad to visit cultural events, contact with dissent and living in two worlds. Making of these other worlds by female members of the Jazz section thus became strategies of living on their own.
Manifests of antifeminism in contemporary teaching of the Roman Catholic Church
Langhammerová, Gabriela ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (referee)
The diploma thesis Antifeminism in Contemporary Teaching of the Roman Catholic Church examines the mechanisms which shape the identity of women in Roman Catholic teachings. This is the starting point for the subsequent constitution of gender order, i.e. the way the relationship between man and woman is constructed, and in which woman is subordinated to man. To support the subordinate position of women, Roman Catholic theology implemented theory of complementarity into its teachings. This inequality provides an important underpinning of gender-based violence. Feminist movement and feminist theology, such as that of Mary Daly brought new analytical tools in the 1960s and 1970s to understand the functioning of the social mechanisms that lead to women's subordination. These tools are, in particular, feminist critique and perspective, critique of power relations and of androcentrism, and a specifically feminist understanding of woman's identity. The Istanbul Convention, with its perspective that rejects inequality, promotes criticism of power relations and describes violence against women as gender-based violence, is conceptually in accordance with the methods and goals of the feminist movement as well as with democratic principles. In particular, it agrees with them on the issue of gender-based...
The dissent in Czechoslovakia in the gender perspective
Bicanová, Jana ; Šanderová, Jadwiga (advisor) ; Teichmanová, Klaudia (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the issues of gender regime of dissident milieu and related gender order of the whole socialist society. It highlights gender relations while focusing on the presence of solidarity or homosocial reproduction between male and female dissidents. The intention of this thesis is to explore the way how post-communist careers of female former dissidents are connected to their understanding of the dissident involvement of theirs. To this end, it utilizes a combination of secondary analysis of two different kinds of interviews with seven female former dissidents and study of literature dealing with said subject. The analysis is based on five analytical categories inspired by Hana Havelková's proposition about a hybrid traditionalist-communist model of a career woman. The categories are based on a general concept of gender, and focus on more concrete concepts dealing with socialist society specifically. The conclusion of the study is in a proposed hypothesis form. These hypotheses are recommended to be tested by using different methodology. One of the key hypothesis claims that the former female dissidents did not give up their "gained positions" once the revolution succeeded. The kind of post-socialist careers of former female dissidents were not a change of a career...
