Landfill Sites and Landfill Gas Risks
Klímová, Zdeňka ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Valášek, Rudolf (advisor)
This work is focused on landfills and landfill gas that is created by decomposition of organic substances. Municipal waste, its origin, properties, practical use and risks related to landfill gas are discussed. At the end of the theoretical section the limits of explosiveness are specified. The practical section deals with the most important properties of methane and carbon dioxide. A photograph of a landfill site, located in Brno – Černovice, is included in the final section.
The collection of textile fragments found in rubbish dump dated to modern times from archaeological excavation in Praha 1- Na rejdišti čp. 77
Šmidová, Kamila ; Březinová, Helena (advisor) ; Bravermanová, Milena (referee)
The main aim of the master thesis is an evaluation of archaeological textiles from the site Na Rejdišti 1 - Praha 1, which are coming from the rubbish dump. They are dated from the 16th to the 18th century. Key sources of information are analogical situations coming mainly from Poland and Germany where the textile fragments have been evaluated from rubbish dumps, water wells, cesspits and sewers. Outcome of the paper is also a tabular catalogue of findings. Key words textile, clothing, late Middle Ages, modern times, town, central Europe, dump, Na Rejdiši, Praha
Coal mining at Radvanice areas and its impact on environment
Knytl, Vladislav ; Opluštil, Stanislav (advisor) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
Hard coal mining in Czech Republic mining districts has a great influence on the landscape and the environment. It includes for example landscape depressions, unsecured old mine sites, mine water and waste dumps. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to observe closer these problems at recently abandoned coal mining district in the surroundings of the town Radvanice near Trutnov. The main part of the thesis is about a spontaneous combustion of sterile dumps and their influence on the landscape and the environment. As the model case is used Katerina I dump, which is situated close to Radvanice town.
The influence of the dominant trees and grain substrate the composition of the microbial community studied by PLFA
Stachová, Sandra ; Frouz, Jan (advisor) ; Heděnec, Petr (referee)
The aim of the thesis was to analyze soil microbial communities of three ecologically different locations, about 25 years old, forestry reclaimed dumps in the Republic of Poland, namely dumps of brown coal mine Bełchatów and sand mines Piaseczno and Szczakowa. I evaluated the degree of dependence of structure and composition of these communities on various substrate grain sizes and the influence of the dominant tree species. These were stands of birch (Betula pendula), pine (Pinus silvestris), oak (Quercus robur) and alder (Alnus glutinosa). Analysis of soil microbial communities was made by evaluating specific phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA) of microorganisms. It is the most appropriate way to implement the relatively rapid analysis of large numbers of samples, since PLFA are easily extractable and act as biomarkers indicating the presence of a number of different microorganisms (fungi, G- and G + bacteria, Actinobacteria, etc.) and thus allowing a qualitative and quantitative assessment of whole microbial communities. PLFA analysis enables to detect a total concentration of PLFA only in living soil microbial biomass. I analyzed 66 soil samples, 33 from an Oe layer and 33 from an A layer, every in three replications, i.e. three replications were collected at each location below each tree...
The effect of earthworms on plant communities
Čápová, Kateřina ; Frouz, Jan (advisor) ; Mudrák, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis provides a literature review, which mainly deals with the distinction of short-term and long-term effect of earthworms on the soil. The work describes the whole process of succession, succession on dump, the research part is carried out on land from dumps. The influence of plants on soil and the influence of soil on plants are described. As well as the effects of biota on soil and soil on biota. In particular, the effect of earthworms on the area and the distinction between short-term and long-term earthworm effects are described. The research part deals with the distinction between short-term and long-term effects of earthworms on the soil and plant growth. Above all, a detailed analysis of the soil on which the pot experiment took place. Aboveground and underground biomass and growth of early and late successive plant species were examined, as well as soil pH, conductivity, microbial respiration, PLFA, ergosterol, determination of NO3-, P, carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and C: N ratio. Thanks to these analyzes, we can better distinguish our investigative issue. The results of my work showed a significant effect of both the immediate presence of earthworms and long-term presence on plant growth and microbial activity. These interactions have been shown to have a complicated pattern during...

Management of municipal solid waste in the town Prachatice
MÁDL, Josef
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to assess the waste management policy in the town Prachatice and to analyze the waste management at the disposal site Libínské Sedlo. The thesis also includes information about how local population views this issue. A contingent valuation method and a structured interview were used as assessing methods here. With help of technical literature the theoretical part of the paper defines expressions related to the waste management and handling the waste. The analytical part assesses the waste management in the town Prachatice with help of information provided by Prachatice Municipality.
