Kučera, Petr ; Pecka, Lukáš (referee) ; Štěpán, Marek (advisor)
The diploma work deals with the design of a residential building in the town of Malenovice u Zlína, where a new residential complex is to be built on the site of the former Malenovice sawmill. The land is located in close proximity to the main road to Zlín. The work proposes a modular house system made of prefabricated CLT elements with social and community overlap. A system that allows rapid construction and creation of buildings with different configurations according to the given requirements not only in the territory of Malenovice. The design system includes small-scale flats with elements of variable furniture, which allows to reduce the cost of housing, which is responding to the current unaffordable housing, but maintaining human comfort. The design also addresses the efficient use of technology on site and its sometimes excessive use.
Koprivnice 3.0 - Housing A++
Šimková, Eliška ; Musálek, Filip (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The design of the urban and architectural study of the former handball field aims to serve as a potential solution to the issue of sustainable and affordable housing. The first part of the proposal focuses on the urban study of the former handball field in Kopřivnice. The area has transformed from a significant city locality into a parking lot over the past 20 years. The urban design responds to the adjacent Kopřivnička River and the proximity of the city center. The area thus becomes a gateway – into the city upstream along the Kopřivnička River, and out of the city toward nature. Among the aims of the proposal was to attract new residents to Kopřivnice, which led to the design of three buildings that reflect this need. The area includes a building with starter apartments, a women’s shelter for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, and finally, a multifunctional building that supports the city’s economy while reflecting the needs of existing Kopřivnice residents. The second part of the proposal presents the architectural study of the women’s shelter. The concept and idea are based on reflections on in-depth interviews with social workers from various shelters. The building is designed to comply with legal regulations, the requirements of staff, and the safety of its residents. The design part of the urban and architectural study is based on insights gained from the theoretical and analytical parts.
To Finish the Body of the City
Demjanovičová, Michaela ; Sládeček, Svatopluk (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
The subject of the assignment was the design of a multifunctional house or a set of houses and adjacent public spaces in the town of Louny, located in the Ústí nad Labem region less than an hour's drive from the capital city of Prague. The plot is located on the very edge of the historical centre of Louny between the more traffic-exposed Osvoboditelů Street, Na Valích Street and Komenského Square. Currently there is a parking lot which serves the residents. However, the plot has much greater potential due to its location in relation to the historic centre and traffic connections. The theme of my work is to focus on a form of affordable housing that should expand the number of apartments in the urban housing stock of Louny while meeting the needs of its residents, connecting them and offering them opportunities to benefit from shared housing and the location of the house close to the centre. Giving them the opportunity to create a community, to meet and hold events in shared interior and exterior spaces, but also providing its residents with a sufficient amount of privacy. One of the goals is also to create an affordable housing development that does not have the stigma of being the cheapest development, but offers its residents a pleasant place to live, sets a new trend, and its appearance reflects its relationship to the downtown. The aim of the design was to create a structure that opens up to the city, offering new facilities for its residents, while providing sufficient comfort, security and dignity of living for the house's inhabitants. The community events of the house are therefore relatively hidden from the public, but at the same time allow anyone to enter the space. The project also focuses on the individual needs of groups of people. Using certain principles, I try to help the community life of the residents in the most natural way possible, so that at the same time the privacy of individuals is preserved.
Vancouver - Affordable Housing Challenge
Syniuk, Kateryna ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis is based on the project of an apartment building, created as a part of the subject AG035 Architectural Design Studio. The subject matter is a design solution for an affordable housing in the city of Vancouver – one of the largest Canadian agglomerations with a fast-growing suburb area. The main idea of the project was to design an affordable and at the same time dignified housing for young families and working singles. One of the project‘s further goals is to revitalize the city center and encourage more people to switch to the urban lifestyle. The designed apartment building is located on Macdonald St, in a quiet city area, built up primarily by apartment and family houses. The project‘s parcel has a relatively flat area. There are a total of five floors in the building, including one underground parking floor. The underground floor also includes facility spaces for residents. The first aboveground floor is divided into two sections – a public and a private one. The public section is designed for two commercial units: a sports club and a coffee shop. The private part of the first aboveground floor is designated as a share space for residents. Next three aboveground floors are residential and include 4 units per floor. Thanks to the receding of the above-ground floors, each of the apartment units was provided with a balcony or terrace supplemented by a vegetation area. There is an atrium running over the upper floors, which illuminates the hallways leading to the individual apartments with da light. The structural system of the building is combined, formed primarily by means of brick walls with the use of reinforced concrete columns in the 1st underground and 1st above-ground floors. The building is covered with a flat roof with a terrace in combination with a green roof.
Brno Connectivity / Brno Democratic City
Šujanová, Radka ; Zvonková, Monika (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The task of the diploma thesis was to find a suitable place in Brno and propose an intervention. An essential part of the design was thinking about the connection between building objects and the people between them. My work deals with social housing. The project stops the existing brownfield at the Cyrilská - Mlýnská intersection near the Vlněna Business Center. The choice of location is not random. In the center of the city, on the border of the new and the old, an opportunity arises for social diversity and the overall connection of different societies.
Heterogenous block
Belanská, Vilma ; Stibitz, Bibiana (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
Too high a price, missing a balcony, unsuitable world orientation, small space... most of us, those who have decided to choose our own path for an independent life, have already had this experience. Looking for housing is one of the most difficult life challenges nowadays. It is a challenge during which a person finds out how far he is willing to go in order to become independent. We often come across housing that does not even meet the standard required for living in an apartment, but even so, they are provided at unreasonable prices. This is also a frequent factor why many young people and families stay with their parents until a relatively late age or do not move out at all, which significantly affects the human psyche and interpersonal relationships as well. The goal of the TRI project is to create affordable urban housing for young adults and families in Louny. The main motive became the connection of life in the apartment with the outdoor space, which is difficult for a person with a limited budget to access. TRI consists of 3 sets of apartments, which, in addition to the apartments themselves, also offer many opportunities to use the exterior to the fullest. With their composition, they form three barriers separating the traffic infrastructure from the inner block, thereby creating a pleasant and safe life for residents in close contact with public space.
Heterogenous block
Konopka, Pavel ; Kovařík, David (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
The subject of this project is development of municipal housing on the western edge of Louny. It dives into the context of living in a small town and aims to provide a more efficient alternative to the current urban study on the same area. The project deals with the special relations between apartments and the street and their scale. It originates from smaller units and composes them into larger parts, from special conception and individual apartments to an urban plan. The result is a hundred of apartment units in a compact structure that has a human scale and highlights the values of neighbourhoods and public spaces.
Typology of alternative housing residents
Domkářová, Anna ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Špaček, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis is focused on alternative forms of living (caravans, boats, houseboats, yurts, tiny houses, and others specified by high mobility and small space) in the context of the recent crisis. These forms of living can be an answer to social, political, and economical situations. This theme is not only about the recent housing crisis, but also about the housing process and the concept of "home". This thesis, based on half-structured interviews which were completed with additional secondary sources, tries to find an understanding of the given choices and look for similarities and differences in the deeper relations of inhabitants to their own form of housing, which are tied to specific motivations, choices, home enjoyment, but also to problems which the specific form has. The diverse relations to housing are the core of this thesis - to create a typology of citizens who use alternative forms of living. Types like old-school, adventurer, pragmatic, planter and bohemian were created due to the interpretation of found data and are representatives of different approaches to the concept of home, but also to oneself and to the world. Keywords housing crisis, alternative housing, affordable housing, typology

Possibilities of Independence and Reintegration of Clients Using Long-term Transitional Housing for Homeless People - Focusing on Prague
Brabencová, Eva ; Kodymová, Pavla (advisor) ; Davidová, Ivana (referee)
Diploma thesis Possibilities of independence and reintegration of clients using long term transitional housing for homeless people - focusing on Prague deals with problem of barriers in a reintegration process of homeless people. It is a primarily unavailability of follow up affordable housing and non-existent system of social housing in the Czech republic. The consequence is long term remain in the transitional housing or in a hostel without possibility of full return to the society. This problem is not resolved neither providing social benefits for housing. Because often the people in need don't get them or the benefits are abused by the owners of the hostels. This metod of solving is very overpriced and unpromising for the future. The solution could be creating a system of the social housing, which would include a few levels of housing which would follow one another. The top would be an ordinary affordable housing. Integral parts of social housing are supporting social services which follow needs of each client. This diploma thesis introduces several projects which are closest to the social housing. The important part of these projects is cooperation with a local authority. There is essential interest of politicians of homelessness to support these activities and interact. For this reason the...
