Globalization and Small Countries - Unique Challenges, Universal Solutions
Petkovska, Katerina ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Benáček, Vladimír (referee)
This work focuses on globalization, more closely on the economic aspects of this process. Small countries, especially developing ones are in the spotlight, as they face unique challenges that have been addressed by the international community for decades at least. The success rate of the intervention is very questionable and leaves room for improvement, which may be a platform to elevate millions out of poverty, solve crippling problems, provide access to technology and improve the global economic system. The uniting hypothesis is that that small developing nations are functioning in a hostile environment when it comes to trade, intellectual property protection and debt, which makes it extremely difficult for them to globalize competitively. Economic history, trade and technology are the main filters of this research. Conventional economic theory like market fundamentalism, and international trade theories will be discussed. A holistic literature review, will try to depict the many sides of the argument. The data used will be from the World Competitiveness Report, World Bank's World Development Indicators, other World Bank data, apropriatiate statistical offices. A case study is implemented to conclude the thesis and in this case to evaluate the hypothesis as only partly true, since small...

Česká národní banka ; Sekce měnová ; Odbor vnějších ekonomických vztahů
The May issue of Global Economic Outlook presents the regular monthly overview of recent and expected developments in selected territories, focusing on key economic variables: inflation, GDP growth, leading indicators, interest rates, exchange rates and commodity prices. In this issue, we focus on the question of whether the oil market is approaching equilibrium. We consider in more detail, among other things, the behaviour of OPEC and US shale oil producers observed over the last three years. We also attempt to identify the causes of occasional sharp swings in oil prices.

Pachlová, Tereza ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kocourková, Jiřina (referee)
Induced abortion in developed countries: trends and law Abstract The objective of this study is to give a comprehensive overview of law and trends in induced abortion in developed countries and to analyse and to evaluate patterns, which are typical for selected countries. In the first part, approaches to induced abortion are discussed and development in abortion law is described, in the second part, trends of induced abortion are analysed over time and by age of woman. As a tool, methods of demographic analysis of induced abortion and some statistical methods are applied. Induced abortions from other than health reasons are currently legally permitted in 25 of 28 analysed countries. Significant differences among developed countries not only in quantum of induced abortion but also in the structure of induced abortion by the age of woman were found by the analysis. Besides the law of induced abortions, the most important factor for indicators of induced abortions is prevalence of modern contraception methods. With the spreading difference of their use, the difference among countries in induced abortion decrease. Keywords: induced abortion, law, abortion rate, developed countries
Determinants of Subjective Wellbeing: Comparison of Developed and Developing Countries
Halamka, Radek ; Bajgar, Matej (advisor) ; Jašová, Martina (referee)
Recent studies concerning subjective wellbeing have not taken different conditions in developed and developing countries into consideration. Also, different types of factors affecting subjective wellbeing have rarely been researched together. This bachelor thesis seeks to fill the gap. Its main aim is to compare individual, economic, political and institutional determinants of life satisfaction within groups of states divided according to their level of economic development. Data from last three waves of World Values Survey are used here. I analyse dependence of life satisfaction on various determinants by ordered probit model. Results show substantial differences between the groups of states. Main results of the thesis show diminishing effect of both national and individual income with rising national income; a large difference between high and low income countries in perception of quality of government and of a concept of personal unemployment; highly appreciated democracy among high income countries; insignificance of attained education in the lower income groups; a positive effect of quality of education and health care among countries with lower national income; and a high effect of freedom of choice across all groups. The thesis points out high importance of taking levels of development into...

Koňařík, Martin ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Development of mortality on diabetes mellitus in developed countries, focusing on the Czech Republic Abstract This thesis addresses the development of diabetes mellitus mortality in selected developed countries between 1950 and 2008 and compares this development with the situation in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic respectively. This development is analyzed by sex, age and type of diabetes. Furthermore it also deals with diabetes morbidity and the share of diabetes mortality from the total mortality. The main approach used in this thesis is analysis of standardized mortality rates and this analysis was done both for whole long-term time series and time series within each International Classification of Diseases for individual countries. Based on the results, it was found that the development of diabetes mellitus mortality was similar across selected countries. It could be divided into several phases. Differentiation between mortality rates of males and females that occurred during reference period was so significant that mortality rates of females which were always higher had dropped below the rates of males. This effect is called in this thesis as a transition from higher female mortality to higher male mortality and it occurred in different countries at different times and also had variable-length...
Global Economic Outlook - April 2017
Česká národní banka ; Sekce měnová ; Odbor vnějších ekonomických vztahů
The April issue of Global Economic Outlook presents the regular monthly overview of recent and expected developments in selected territories, focusing on key economic variables: inflation, GDP growth, leading indicators, interest rates, exchange rates and commodity prices. In this issue, we also discuss the risks to global economic growth in the medium term. Global growth is currently being threatened above all by non - economic factors (environmental risks, large - scale migration, terrorism). Economic risks may continue to hinder world growth, but they no longer dominate the global risks in the way they did immediately after the global crisis broke out.

Changes in Inflation Dynamics under Inflation Targeting? Evidence from Central European Countries
Baxa, Jaromír ; Plašil, Miroslav ; Vašíček, Bořek
The purpose of this paper is to provide a novel look at the evolution of inflation dynamics in selected Central European (CE) countries. We use the lens of the New Keynesian Phillips Curve (NKPC) nested within a time-varying framework. Exploiting a time-varying regression model with stochastic volatility estimated using Bayesian techniques, we analyze both the closed and open-economy version of the NKPC. The results point to significant differences between the inflation processes in three CE countries.

Mapping culture preferences of Klatovy
Tomanová, Jaroslava ; Tyslová, Irena (advisor) ; Kouba, Vojtěch (referee)
Research of motivation, values and other factors which influence preferences and consumption behaviour in the culture sector is standard practice in the developed countries. This bachelor thesis focuses on introducing several methods that have been used for the research in different countries. The practical part suggests a method which could be used for this kind of research in the area of Klatovy and the villages belonging to the power of this municipality. There have been developed statistical techniques used for measuring the relevance of the factors which influence the consumption behaviour in culture and arts. This might be significantly important not only for the cultural organisations and efficient decision making but also for the municipalities and the transparent redistributing of financial sources in this sector.
