Social Networks in Tourism: The CouchSurfing Project in Czechia

The master thesis focuses on the virtual social network sites which are concern to be exceptionally actual issue. Moreover the thesis deals with social networks in tourism. The number of various social networks about travelling is high. However, only the community of CouchSurfing (hospitality exchange network) was chosen for the research purposes of the thesis. The research included in the thesis focuses on CouchSurfing because is the greatest hospitality exchange site in these days. It includes user from all over the world and community of Czech users as well. The focal point of the research was also on Czech community only. With the aim of approaching the theme gradually the thesis begins with the theoretical framework. The framework is structured into several chapters which include insight to the social networks and alternative tourism from different perspectives. The social theory, the sociological paradigms, the changes in value-system in the society and the technological development of web 2.0 are discussed in the theoretical part. Spatial aspects of sharing economy in tourism: case of couchsurfing

5 Abstract A significance of platforms based on sharing economy principle in tourism has been continuously increasing. Currently, the most significant phenomenon is Airbnb, which allows residents to offer their homes for tourists. Even though Airbnb still works on basic peer to peer principle of sharing economy, due to uncontrolled development, it has been leading to a diversion from values of sharing economy. Unlike Airbnb, couchsurfing still retains values of sharing economy and promotes sustainable tourism. However, there is not enough data about couchsurfing. For example, this platform does not have any public database, which would outline how many people were accommodated through Couchsurfing in particular destinations. The lack of data about couchsurfing is apparent in the academic sphere as well. The vast majority of studies is focused on sociological themes like motivations of people to use couchsurfing or mutual trust among its users. In the meantime, the spatial behaviour of these tourists has been therefore underestimated. Creation of a database of these tourists on international and Czech national scale including an exploration of spatial behaviour in Czechia is the main aim of this research. Contemporary trends in tourism

This BA Thesis deals with the contemporary trends in tourism. The main goal of the thesis is to analyse these trends and to find out the differences in using these trends between citizens of the Czech Republic and citizens of other countries. The issue at hand was researched using a survey. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is dedicated into the first of two chapters, which are indispensable in order to introduce he reader into to the issue of tourism. The practical part aims at the description of contemporary trends in the tree main areas of tourist services: accommodation, transportation and food and beverage. These trends are demonstrated on specific examples of Airbnb, Uber or themed restaurants.
The impact of sharing economy on consumer behavior in tourism

The thesis concentrates on the impact of the sharing economy on consumer behavior in tourism. The theoretical part focuses on several approaches towards consumer behavior and the importance of mobile technologies for the growth of the sharing economy. The second part later deals with characterization of the sharing economy, determination of the key players and most importantly researches the impact of this phenomenon on consumer behavior in tourism, especially in the area of accommodation and transportation.
The couchsurfing.org phenomenon in a context of alternative tourism, subculture and lifestyle

This thesis is focused on analyzing an online social network couchsurfing.org, a hospitality exchange network that provides a possibility to find a free accomodation for its members all around the world. The aim of the thesis is a content analysis of this social network and examination of its position within an alternative tourism phenomenon, as well as an ethnographic analysis of its member's lifestyle and opinions, based on structured questionnaires and semi-structured and unstructured interviews, and an examination of possible subculture-forming tendencies of this website. Couchsurfing - an alternative way of travelling

This bachelor thesis deals with Couchsurfing, which is a hospitality service and social networking website. Currently it is a popular service in individual tourism. The work describes the forms of tourism, general motivational factors for tourism and there is a detailed definition of the term Couchsurfing identified. It also presents a marketing research, which is based on a questionnaire survey on concrete Facebook groups dealing with Couchsurfing. The survey is complemented by interviews with Couchsurfers. This work identifies the typical user of the Couchsurfing and it especially finds out the main reasons which motivate the use of this social network. This bachelor thesis also indicates the socio cultural and economic impacts of this new way of travelling. Finally, the differences between individual and organized tourism and their advantages and disadvantages are described there.

Safety concerns by using services in the Couchsurfing community

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate safety concerns in the Couchsurfing community and to find out whether enable sufficient protection for guests, as well as for hosts. The theoretical part focuses on lodging industry, its history, evolution, new trends and it classifies lodging establishments. Further, this section also describes Cocuhsurfing community with emphasis of safety features. The bachelor thesis involves practical part consists of the comparative method and observation method with follow-up experiment. In the practical part are compared several categories of lodging establishments with others websites offering private accommodation. The main focus of the work is experiment, whose role is to verify website security in the Couchsurfing community. The goal is to warn of vulnerability and ensure general awareness.

The Bachelor thesis on "Social, economic and socio-cultural aspects of CouchSurfing phenomenon" is dedicated to the contemporary trends in tourism and refers especially to the young generation and its current needs in context of travelling. These trends are considered as quite similar to the phenomenon called CouchSurfing, the biggest social network connecting travellers from all around the world, and everything this phenomenon represents. The primary aim of this work is not by any means a comprehensive description of CouchSurfing itself, but an effort to place that phenomenon into a proper context of all social, economic or socio-cultural aspects of the project (mainly focusing on questions why was CouchSurfing established and what it actually brings or influences).
