Ročková, Šárka ; Vomáčková, Helena (advisor) ; Opatrná Novotná, Irena (referee)
Title: Monitoring the effect of short-term application of selected sleep hygiene rules on postural stability Aims: The aim of this work was to monitor the influence of short-term application of selected sleep hygiene rules on postural stability using a Computerized Dynamic Posturography NeuroCom Smart EquiTest machine in healthy young individuals. Methods: This work is characterized as an experimental pilot study. The research set consists of 20 individuals (n=20). The set was then divided into an experimental group (n1=10) and a control group (n2=10). The probands were approached based on previously defined criteria (healthy young adults, higher education and university students between 20 and 30 years of age, the average age in the experimental group (n1=10) was 24,74  2,56 years, the average age in the control group (n2=10) was 25,39  2,97 years,). The method of proband choice was non-probabilistic selection the snowball method. The measurements were performed at the Laboratory of Applied Kinesiology of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University. A Computerized Dynamic Posturography NeuroCom Smart EquiTest machine was used to assess and evaluate the postural stability. The testing protocol included the following tests: Sensory Organisation Test, Motor Control Test, Limits...
Pineal lesions: clinical presentation, hormone secretion, sleep quality and effect of surgical treatment
Májovský, Martin ; Netuka, David (advisor) ; Šonka, Karel (referee) ; Lipina, Radim (referee)
Introduction: Pineal region is a deep-seated part of the brain surrounded by highly eloquent structures. Differential diagnosis of space-occupying lesions in this region encompasses pineal gland cysts, pineal gland tumours, metastases, germ cell tumours, meningiomas, gliomas, hemangioblastomas and neuroectodermal tumours. In this thesis, I focused mainly on patients with pineal cysts, which is a benign affection of the human pineal gland on the borderline between pathology and normality. The clinical management of patients with a pineal cyst remains controversial, especially when patients present with non-specific symptoms. A melatonin secretion in patients with a pineal cyst before and after a pineal cyst resection has not been studied yet and the effect of surgery on human metabolism is unknown. Materials and Methods: We performed a prospective study between 2000 and 2016. All patients with a pineal cyst larger than 7 mm were included. Epidemiological data, presenting symptoms, surgical results and radiographic and clinical follow-up were documented. We examined melatonin, cortisol and blood glucose secretion profiles perioperatively in a subgroup of 4 patients. The control group was represented by 3 asymptomatic patients with a pineal cyst. For each patient, 24-h circadian secretion curves of...
Chronotypes and Social Jet Lag Related to Obesity
Halászová, Andrea ; Fárková, Eva (advisor) ; Červená, Kateřina (referee)
In nature we can observe plenty of actions which show some kind of regularity as they repeat with a certain period. The circadian rhythm with its period of approximately one day belongs among these. The circadian rhythm is synchronized mainly by light, but there are also many other internal and especially external synchronizers such as the society we live in. In an organism many processes show circadian rhythmicity, but everyone has the rhythm adjusted individualy, thus called chronotype. It's indeed very important to note that living in harmony with the chronotype is essential. Social jet lag is the term for a long-term disbalance and circadian desynchrony as a consequence of the need to adjust this individual circadian preference to the regime set by the society we live in. Many of recent studies support the findings, that social jet lag might have an impact on health and could participate in development of some of the lifestyle diseases such as obesity. Therefore it should be found beneficial to apply those finding in a clinic practise not only in order to help with an efficient treatment of obesity and its consequences but also in preventing it.

Circadian preferences with emphasis on school-age children

Bakalářská práce: Cirkadiánní preference se zaměřením na děti žákovského věku Řešitel: Michaela Kasalová Vedoucí práce: PhDr. Denisa Janečková, Ph.D. Abstract: Chronobiology (name comes from a Greek word chronos = time) is a scientific field engaged in biological rhythms that have a specific cycle with a different length of period. The most important rhythms for a human body are circadian rhythms with a period approximately 24 hours. These rhythms influence individual timing of physiological, biochemical and psychological variables technically called chronotypes. Objectives of this bachelor's work are to map the chronotypes from a historical view and to outline individual types, their specifications, their biological principle and their connection with the circadian rhythms and a sleeping cycle. Differences between chronotypes are not only among individual persons but they are changing during specific ages, therefore I focus on school-age children. Today's school system forces pupils to a certain rhythm, not necessarily well functioning with their internal natural biorhythm, and can influence results as well as study options.
Reproduction of Hawaiian red shrimp \kur{Halocaridina rubra}
HOMOLKA, Václav
Hawaiian red shrimp - Halocaridina rubra (order Decapoda; family Atyidae) is an endemic species originated from Hawaii Islands. It is adapted to a specific environment of underground systems and anchialine pools. Halocaridina rubra has a great potential for aquarium shrimps breeders as well as for researchers. The aim of this work was to: (1) document the reproduction of shrimp Halocaridina rubra and (2) determine the influence of selected chronobiological factors and presence/absence of a shelter for its reproduction. The experiment was realized in the aquarium room and chronobiological laboratory at the department of Biological disciplines at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The experiment took three months (i.e. from 3 rd November 2014 to 3 rd February 2015). This experiment had 4 treatments each with two repetitions: on the light with and without a shelter, in the dark with and without a shelter. Experimental shrimps were put into the aquaria in the breeding groups: 10: 16 (female: male). The frequency of mating was evaluated. Neither the light conditions (12 h (light): 12 h (dark) or permanent dark) nor the presence of shelter had impact on the reproduction of Halocaridina rubra. The reproduction of shrimp Halocaridina rubra was documented. Spermatophore transfer, eggs, four larval stages of zoea type, megalopal stage and two juvenil stages are monitored. Recommendations for breeding have been developed. Anesthesia was tested by using eugenol (clove oil) in shrimps.
Changes in body weight depending on circadian typology of adolescent girls during the year.
ROKOSOVÁ, Monika
This thesis deals with monitoring changes of body weight of adolescent girls at the age of 16 20 years old through one calendar year in the context of a season of the year and chronotypology of a personality. According to this typology the monitored people are divided into so called "larks", who are more active early in the morning and during the day and "owls" whose activity rises in the evening and at night. The theoretical part deals with circadian rhythms, their function, role in the life of an individual and also their disorders. It focuses on a developmental specification of adolescent girls, lifestyle in this period of life, changes of body weight and diet. Another part is the meaning of the sleep, its need and associated with good sleep habits and sleep hygiene. In the practical part there is described a methodology along with the results of the research and employment of this project in practice.

Daily rates of the direct PCI interventions in acute myocardial infarctions performed on two cardiological clinics in Brno (2004-2006) were analyzed from chronological aspects. They are more frequent in Monday whereas on weekends appears a minimum. They are alsomore frequent on early spring, the minimum is in November.
Daily and weekly changes of the incidence of acute myocardial infarction
Sitar, J. ; Střeštík, Jaroslav
The authors deal with daily and weekly changes of the incidence of acute myocardial infarctions during 1999-2002 in the town of Brno. The authors have searched for possible differences between this data set and the similar set of infarctions during 1982-1986 from the whole Czech Republic.
