Political activity of Anselm of Canterbury
Kalina, Jan ; Suchánek, Drahomír (advisor) ; Drška, Václav (referee)
The thesis aims to describe Anselm's years as prior and abbot and his archiepiscopal career. Analyzing the years spent in the Norman monastery of Bec as a missionary and teacher in its school, the thesis notes the amount of knowledge and experiences which prepared Anselm for his archiepiscopal career. His intellectual qualities and theories are examined as well as some of his highly influential theological texts. Anselm also strove to spread the reforms of his teacher and mentor at Bec and his predecessor at Canterbury, Archbishop Lanfranc. Anselm's following archiepiscopal career spanned the reigns of two kings: William Rufus and Henry I. The study proves that the policies and attitudes of both rulers were quite different. Under the reign of William Rufus, Anselm tried to bring his ideal theoretical state of things into actuality, but the king resisted everything he attempted to do. With his death, Anselm's position changed rapidly and dramatically. Henry, on the other hand, excelled in the ability to work out a compromise. In the end, Anselm's archiepiscopal career concluded with cooperation between king and archbishop.

Socio-cultural activity of the Czech clergy in the 1860's: the vicariate of Sedlčany under the leadership of B. M. Kulda 1860-1870
Zouzal, Tomáš ; Velek, Luboš (advisor) ; Hlavačka, Milan (referee)
The main topic of this study is the role of the lower echelons of the clergy in Czech society in the 1860's. Against a backdrop of the broader socio-political context, the study focuses on the Vicariate of Sedlčany, where the writer and patriotic priest Beneš Metod Kulda served as vicar from 1860 to 1870. The work deals with the identity of the ethnically Czech lower echelons of the clergy, their mentality and activities. Special emphasis is placed on how they coped with the liberalization of society, on their work in education and their attitudes towards national issues. The study depicts the mentality and activities of the clergy on the basis of specific examples, which can frequently be termed typical. At the same time, it describes unusual events that in some cases attracted attention beyond the borders of the vicariate itself. In conflict situations, the perspective of the clergy are also compared to the views of their ideological opponents. An analysis of the relationships and mentalities of the main actors reveals the multifaceted background of social life in the years when decisions were being made about the future direction of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Catholic Church.
The Council of Chalcedon from the point of view of Christian Orthodoxy and the Monophysite Coptic Orthodox Church.
David, Miloš ; Vopatrný, Gorazd Josef (advisor) ; Ventura, Václav (referee)
The thesis deals with the comparison attitudes of two Eastern Christian traditions - Orthodox and Coptic to 4th ecumenical council, which held in 451 in Chalcedon. The Monophysite, or Non- Chalcedonian, Coptic Orthodox Church regards it as return to the heterodox teaching called Nestorianism whilst Eastern Orthodox Church this council considers in accordance with the Orthodox doctrine. For Orthodox Christians Chalcedon represents the breakthrough for a refinement of the Christology, concretely in the doctrine about two natures - divine and human - in single person of Christ which the Copts regard as return to Nestorian heresy which due to its dualism interfered the integrity of the person of Christ. The thesis puts forward the insight into the Council of Chalcedon from both perspectives objectively. The thesis is based on authors which represent Orthodox and Coptic traditions but also on these who researched this issue solely from a historical-theological point of view. I have noted reasons - theological and non-theological - why the Copts reject to accept conclusions of this ecumenical council to this day, among other things. I have tried to point out that Monophysitism, or Miaphysitism - whose way the Copts follow - is not only a heretical teaching from the Orthodox theological point of view but...
