Jan Pfeiffer 2023 Charles University, Faculty of Education DISSERTATION Black. (Selected cases of phenomena in visual arts, culture and their possibilities in education) MgA. Jan Pfeiffer 2023 Abstract The subject of this work is black, or the designation for color. But it is also an artistic concept and means of expression. The subject of my interest are selected cases of the black phenomenon in visual arts, culture, and their possibilities in education. I understand black as a phenomenon that I explore through my own creative work. In the course of it, I ask myself questions, such as: what stimuli, for example, black gives us and how it is connected with our socio-cultural background and its perception. I also ask contemporary artists working consciously or unconsciously with black, what black enables them in their work, and how it supports them, whether it is crucial for them. My intention is to open new perspectives on the subject of black and its connection with daily life, the ability to treat this phenomenon as a conscious gesture, an opinion - distinguishing different uses of black context. Liška, Zdeněk ; Teplý, Vladimír (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor) ; Petříček, Tomáš (advisor)
The theme of this project was to create a building which would be used for recreational and sporting purposes at The Brno Reservoir . The proposed building includes following parts: facilities for employees of the Public Transport of City Brno, marinas, information center for selling tickets, restaurant and fast food, and bathrooms for visitors. The plot is defined by the existing car park, access road to the car park, boat tickets shop and existing building of the yacht club. Angled surfaces of the glass facades on the southwest side comply with the promontory shape of the reservoir. The Individual components abstract the elements of a cruise ship. The object has longitudinal character. Bevelled wooden surfaces of the roof symbolize boarding pier to a boat. People can freely promenade here, and enjoy the view to the lake and its surroundings. There is a big view opening to the exterior part of the restaurant on the boarding slant at the northern side. In winter, this areas can serve to children as bobsled. The pavement form the street Přístavní extends to the accessible part of the roof. The entrances are situated to the west. Supplying for the restaurant will be provided by delivering supplies along the street Přístavní. The building is divided into two functional entities - restaurant and port terminal. The interior is based on the concept of Plan Libre. The restaurant smoothly changes in a waiting area for passengers. There is a staircase located in the middle of this open space, which connects the first floor to the second floor above. There is also a staircase that leads to the basement. Immobile or less fit people can reach each of the floors by elevator, which is also located in this central area. From the second floor it is possible to access to the roof
There's black and white, day and night, good and evil, yin and yang. It all just balances itself out.
Ilič, Risto ; Kořínková, Jana (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis "There's Black and White, Day and Night, Good and Evil, Ying and Yang" follows the three-year existence of the collective "Ugly Brno" and its work, which is based on the still current, local phenomenon of redesigning of advertising banners and shields in the context of small businesses located in the Brno city center. Specifically, it focuses on emerging designs combining black and white. The output of this bachelor's thesis is a video – a fictional interview in which Black and White are personified as two confident, eccentric personalities, quasi-experts in today's visual culture and the ultimate guarantors of taste, who conquered the city of Brno with their realizations. The objective of this thesis is to reveal the mythology behind the popularity of black and white combination in the context of visual culture, particularly in graphic design and its connection to the problematics of gentrification and capitalism. Another objective is to use sarcasm and irony to create a reflection of a culture whose values are elitism, workaholism, perfectionism, disregard for alternatives and an emphasis on efficiency. Why is it that in such a culture, black and white has gained more and more popularity than ever before?

This Bachelor thesis, entitled, "Media image of Barack Obama's presidential campaign in the dailies Mlada Fronta and Hospodarske noviny", examines the presentation of an Afroamerican politician during the primary and general American Presidential election period. It covers the peak primary election campaign and the finish of that campaign, and the start of the general election in 2008. The articles and reports published in the selected period and pursued this theme at length, were subsequently processed by the method of qualitative analysis. The goal is to show Barack Obama's exact media image as presented by both dailies, and this thesis also focuses on whether the coverage of the democratic candidate was aimed primarily at presenting him as an Afroamerican. An important resource for research was media theory that deals with the way the media shows ethnic and national minorities. The object was therefore to study the stereotypical view of the group and when describing Barack Obama based on racial stereotypes. In conclusion is outlined the resulting media image of the Democratic candidate, and is specifically pointed out the errors made by the media in describing Barack Obama. Keywords Barack Obama, american presidential election, election campaign, media, black, Afroamerican, stereotype
