The result of direct aid: Masaka, Uganda

This paper is concerned with the efficiency of aid in Masaka, Uganda which is about 140 km from the capital city Kampala. It uses the results of 300 surveys and several interviews to gather data, and a causal methodology to define results. Much of the methodology is based on theories from William Easterly, Andrew Mwenda, Dambisa Moyo, Jeffrey Sachs, and Amartya Sen. It has been concluded that there are several problems in the Masaka area. One is Uganda's federal government, which is inefficient and unaccountable. There is also lack of easily accessible health care for rural citizens, and a lack of local development due to poor governance. Conversely, the residents of Masaka are quite developed in terms of employment and education, and have rated themselves as quite free and satisfied with life. There is also a quite adequate level of gender equality, especially in terms of education.
Security Complex of African Great Lakes

The thesis focuses on analysis of causes of armed conflicts within security complex of the African Great Lakes region. Explored period is situated between 1990 and present. The major part of text is devoted concrete analysis of causes of conflicts according to sector approach. The thesis attempts to describe main causal frameworks of conflicts within researched area eventually to find some their common features.
Humans of Lusanja. Anthropological study of development cooperation in Uganda.

The diploma thesis focuses on the development cooperation and implementation of projects in local cultures using example of Ugandan community from the Lusanja village. The aim of this thesis is to describe the impact of development cooperation on the community and its expectations, to map the dialogue among the various actors of the project and to provide feedback to the Western non-profit organizations from the local culture. Based on field research conducted using ethnographic methods, the thesis brings an emic perspective of the local community to the Western idea of development cooperation. The emic perspective is mostly omitted from the development discourse, eventhough it could significantly affect the sustainability of implemented projects in developing countries. Operation Entebbe and its media reflection in Czechoslovak newspapers

Bachelor thesis Operation Entebbe and its Media Reflection in Czechoslovak Newspapers deals with the event of 1976, when an Air France plane, flight Tel Aviv - Athens - Paris to Uganda, specifically to Entebbe airport, was hijacked by terrorists. The first part of the thesis describes the historical context of the event and the event itself as it happened. In the second part of this thesis media content analysis is conducted. Three periodicals are analysed: Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie and Mladá fronta. The results of the analysis reflect the attitude of Czechoslovak periodicals and thus the Czechoslovak perspective not only on the kidnapping and rescue mission, but also on the State of Israel itself. Furthermore, the results depict media manipulation caused by communist propaganda by the presentation of Czechoslovak periodicals that differs from reality.
Faktory ovlivňující rozvoj ekologického zemědělství v Ugandě

The bachelor thesis Factors affecting the development of organic agriculture in Uganda was aimed at defining the factors that influence the development of organic agriculture in this country. The PESTLE analysis and analysis of stakeholders were used for achieve the main goal. Particular factors of PESTLE, which could affect the development of OA in Uganda, were defined for needed analysis. Then their true influence was evaluated. The influence was evaluated like strong positive, positive, neutral, negative and strong negative. The strong negative affecting factors are level of corruption, infrastructure, energy, property rights and water sources. The negative affecting factors are political stability and soil. Subsidy and organic laws are considered negative. The positive affecting factors are governance, export, banking, MYC4, education, the role of women, research and development, the techniques and methods, distribution mechanisms and environmental law. The strong positive affecting factors are demand and supply, development of demography, NOGAMU, certification and clime. There was also a determining interest groups interacting with the Ugandan organic production.

Childbirth among women in East Africa - medical and social aspects of postnatal care

This thesis deals with the topic of childbirth and birth delivery in Eastern Africa. The theoretical part tackles mostly the high birth rates, midwifery and hygiene habits and rituals, health system, alternative approaches in midwifery care and traditional healing methods, post-natal care as well as high maternal and infant mortality rates. It uncovers the taboo topic of female circumcision and the impact that it has on giving birth. It furthermore describes a case of an especially complicated labour of a Ugandan girl called Fatima Mirembe who gave birth in a prison hospital. The practical part of this paper consists of a research survey that, using questionnaires, aims to find out what the women from the Ugandan Nyakyera Village and the communities nearby experience during and after the delivery and what the quality of local post-natal care is. It also describes the abortion rate in the area and common causes of abortions and it also describes the knowledge of the true story of Fatima Mirembe. Thesis topic "Witch cults and alternative treatment methods in equatorial Africa" deals with the problems of shamanism and treatment methods in Africa, mainly in the equatorial area. Introduces witchcraft and compares it to shamanism, healing and other methods of the African aboriginal tribes and specific healing methods which are practised by shamans, medicine men and healers. At the same time it compares these methods to the quality of the medical services which are available in the given area. Practical part shows research solutions analysing the relations of the citizens from an Ugandan village Nyakyera and surrounding areas to healthcare and their attitude towards the shaman healers.
