Slavia - Mutual Insurance Bank 1869-1918. Business, Enterpreneurial Strategies, Social Networks.

This case study analyses the evolution of the Slavia - Mutual Insurance Company between 1869- 1918. It is a contribution to the Czech business history in the ‚long' nineteenth century. It follows the development of this enterprise and relates it to the development of insurance in the Hapsburg Empire. Firstly, the author reconstructs the process of its promotion and traces its preconditions. Secondly and most importantly, this study investigates the entrepreneurial strategy of this composite insurance company in the main insurance types, in relation to the investment of company's capital and to the business outside and inside of a cartel. Thirdly, the present study tracks the development of the social basis of the company on the level of its management with respect to its structure and its social networks as well as on the level of its clientele. More generally, this study examines the social and cultural prerequisites for the growth of insurance underwriting in the Czech society. The present study is based largely on interpretation of primary sources.

Edvard Benes like a Sociologist

This article discusses the sociological work of Edvard Beneš. The second president of Czechoslovakia is seen mainly as politician and diplomat, but the goal of this article is to present less know part of Beneš personality. And that is his sociological work. Beneš always felt like a sociologist, he dealt with various sociological topics mainly in his early career and in the period before the First World War. However, in later years, as president of Czechoslovakia he never forgets to the profession of sociologist. Benes sociology is significant in that it had a direct influence on his political activities. Beneš perceived the sociology like a tool for learning about society and tried to make out of this knowledge was based on his policies. Beneš was a direct successor of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, in sociology and in politics, and he ensured the continuity of thought TGM, it was Beneš benefits. The Role of Russia in the Czech Political Context according to K. H. Borovský and T. G. Masaryk

The role of Russia in the European context underwent a very interesting development from the 19th century onwards. The Czech political elite's attitude towards Russia is very interesting as it kept changing from the 19th to the 20th century. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the different tendencies towards the role of Russia in the Czech political context. This thesis focuses on the role of Russia in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Other significant politicians will be mentioned as well, such as František Palacký or Karel Kramář, with a special focus on their attitudes towards the role of Russia in the Czech political context.
