Drug use among skateboardists
Kačer, Amalie ; Petruželka, Benjamin (advisor) ; Barták, Miroslav (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of substance abuse among skateboarders. I assumed that marijuana is more used among skateboarders. In the Czech Republic there is almost no publication on this topic. In foreign studies we read that substance use is higher among adolescents who play extreme sports. Furthermore, foreign authors state that substance use and skateboarding are independent manifestations of masculinity. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to analyze and describe the role of substance abuse in skateboarding subculture. In this thesis I decided to take a qualitative approach, where I collected data through semi-structured interviews. The research sample consists of six men. The results are divided according to the research questions into five categories and the last sixth category deals with the analysis of the CAST questionnaire. The results show that skateboarding is taken as a lifestyle in the first place, then skateboarding is described as an organized sport. The results also show that marijuana has a role to play and is closely linked to the skateboarding subculture. Other illicit substances are used sporadically and are attributed to individuals rather than to the subculture as a whole. Motivations for use vary from substance to substance. The results further suggest that...

Hroch, Miloš ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Karaščáková, Zuzana (referee)
The aim of this study is to analyse language of internet media focused on skateboarding. An essential element of the introduction is a brief history of skateboarding globaly and here in the Czech Republic. The basis for the analysis of contemporary audiovisual clips also touches on the development of the distribution of skateboard videos. In this study I also mention the role of YouTube as a distributing tool and phenomenom of instant fame, which is not strong only in skateboarding, but it is a phenomenon across the full spectrum of society. The principal basis of this study is the definition of two print and later Internet traditions in skateboard journalism - Thrasher and Transworld Skateboarding magazine. The study also concerns itself with maping out the Czech media environment, where skateboarding has its own place. The genesis of skateboard media in the Czech Republic follows the formation of Thrasher and Transworld, which is a very interesting fact that is important for the general understanding of the topic. For deeper insight into skateboard subculture, I also mention the journalistic style of Czech skateboarding media. The Internet media has a special emphasis on visual content, more so than print media, due to traditional text being replaced by moving pictures, and therefore with help of...

The aim of this thesis is to capture the view of the first generation of skateboarders on the emergence and development of skateboarding in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s. The research will be based on two important pillars, i.e. the explanation of the contemporary context in Czechoslovakia, with an overlap into the history of skateboarding in the USA and the qualitative method of oral history that I will use in the second pillar of the research to capture witnesses' memories. Half-structured interviews with 6 narrators, i.e. representatives of the first skateboarding generation, will be carried out within the oral history method.
