New forms of voter persuasion: analysis of the political communication of the ANO 2011 and SPD on social networks
Marková, Marie ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of the political communication of two politicians in the Czech Republic: from the "ANO 2011" was chosen Andrej Babiš, and for the "SPD" was chosen, Tomio Okamura. The communication of selected politicians was examined on the social network "Facebook", which is the most commonly used social network among Czech politicians. The above-mentioned politicians use the new internet platforms relatively more than other politicians. Therefore, the author of this diploma thesis assumes that there will be in their communication present some new forms of political communication. Based on the defined criteria, which arose from the theoretical part of the thesis, a detailed analysis of the political communication of both politicians is performed and then compared. The political communication was examined based on the content of posts, the sound of shared posts, the form of the communication, the relevance of the shared messages, and the argumentation strategy. The shared posts were also assessed whether they are populist and if there are elements of personalization in the communication of Andrej Babiš and Tomio Okamura. This work aims to find out whether the elements defined above are used in the Facebook communication of the above-mentioned politicians.
The Social Democratic Party of Germany and Czechoslovakia (1973-1989)
Malínek, Tomáš ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee) ; Nečasová, Denisa (referee)
This doctoral thesis deals with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and its foreign policy towards Czechoslovakia during the 1970s and 1980s. It aims not only to analyse the relationship between SPD and KSČ (Communist Party of Czechoslovakia) but also the communication and cooperation between SPD, Czechoslovak dissidents and Czechoslovak political emigration. The main goal of the dissertation is to answer three basic questions: What were the goals of social democratic eastern policy (Ostpolitik) towards ČSSR? Were they achieved? Does the party changed its attitude towards Czechoslovakia after 1982, when it became an opposition party?
The Image of George Soros Conveyed by Selected Czech Politicians
Koblížková, Anna ; Shavit, Anna (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
This paper examines the discourse among Czech political actors on George Soros, an American billionaire and philanthropist. The work is divided into two parts, one being theoretical and the second applied. The former defines the theoretical foundations of the study, which are then used to interpret the results of the quantitative content analysis. Given the main objective of this paper - to demonstrate that the discourse relating to the figure of George Soros is in line with the interpretation of the New Populism theory - the theoretical section introduces the concept of populism and its chief problematics, and subsequently describes the main characteristics of the theory of New Populism by the British political scientist, Paul Taggart. A theoretical dataset was constructed on the basis of this interpretation of populism, which is then used as a research framework for the practical analysis. The second part of this paper opens with a description of the research methodology. This includes an explanation of the process used to select research subjects, to compile the dataset (data collection methodology and definition of the time period), and to formulate the function and its variables. The next segment of the second part of this paper deals with George Soros himself, or more precisely, the wider...
Rhetorics and determinants of support for populist radical right parties in different socio-cultural environments: a comparison of the Czech Republic and Denmark
Koníček, Michal ; Lepič, Martin (advisor) ; Maškarinec, Pavel (referee)
This diploma thesis examines the suitability of generalization of the populist radical right parties (PRRP). In recent years, these parties have succeeded on the political scene of many European countries. Using the example of "new" Svoboda a přímá demokracie (SPD) political party and the established Danish People's Party (DF) it shows the differences in the party pre-election rhetoric and program, which are brought about by parties' age as well as by different historical developments in the respective countries. The historical context has affected contemporary political environment and, therefore, there are reasonable doubts about the generalization of the PRRPs. This is especially the case of post-communist countries, which, after years of oppression, had to go through a process of transformation that involved not only economic issues. This thesis is based on the Lipset's and Rokkan's cleavages theory, while it tries to confirm its existence in the given states, namely the economical, the religious, the center - periphery and the urban - rural cleavage. The inclusion of six tested factors in the analysis helps to do this. The multiple linear regression analysis tested which factors (the factors are socio-cultural, socio-economic, and demographic factors) have a statistically significant...

Between Westbindung and Ostpolitik: Reconceptualising German-Russian Relations 2014-2017
Jacobs, Jonathan ; Stepanovic, Vera (advisor) ; Escriba, Abel (referee)
German-Russian relations have remained strong since the Cold War, despite continuing in traditions of multilateralism and integrated into the Western order. Despite recent tensions and deterioration since the Ukraine Crisis, German-Russian relations are a subject of intense debate between the political parties CDU/CSU and SPD that governed Germany in a coalition from 2014-2017. This thesis utilises a social constructivist method to focus on social factors and party-political legacies relevant in the evolving relationship. It then analyses the evolving discourse of the parties about Russia in the years 2014-2017, focusing on the different ways the discourse uses and connects with the factors and legacies. Although a parallel movement is discerned between the foreign policy positions of the CDU/CSU and SPD, the parties' positions do not converge but remain in conflict about the future of European security, cooperation with Russia and the desired foreign policy role of Germany. Throughout, the analysis suggests that contemporary theories about German-Russian relations and about Germany's foreign policy role should look at the internal debates and factors to get a more complete picture of German foreign policy. Political tabloid press on examples of titles "Na vlastní oči Praha 10" and "Na vlastní oči"
Komrska, Jiří ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The main goal of this diploma thesis was to find patterns on the pages of Na vlastní oči (With One's Own Eyes) title that define gutter press in its specific form of political tabloid. The analysis was concerned with the time period from 2016 to 2019 during which the said title was published in total of four waves each of which related to the relevant pre-election campaign. The Na vlastní oči title was initially published anonymously and only later Jan Čížek, publisher of the regional town-hall newspaper and a Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) candidate, claimed to be the publisher. SPD subsequently became the final sponsor of the newspaper. In the first wave of publishing activity, the authors of the title focused on a disparaging campaign against the then-candidate for the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Parliament and, in a broader context, against the whole opposition within the City Council of the Prague 10 City Ward. In its later publications, the newspaper dealt mostly with topics aimed at spreading fear of an unspecified danger associated with the refugee crisis and concerns about the unknown in the form of the Islamic Religion which was always associated with the threat of terrorism. In the context of its election programme, SPD also communicated groundless criticism...
Structure and mechanical properties of magnesium materials processed by HPT
Poloprudský, Jakub ; Němec, Karel (referee) ; Doležal, Pavel (advisor)
This thesis is focused on processing of pure magnesium by high pressure torsion method (HPT). This process belongs to the group of intensive plastic deformation methods (SPD). SPD methods are in the centre of scientific interest for several decades. Theoretical part of this thesis puts an effort to summarize basic knowledge and principles of SPD methods with extra focus on method HPT. As theoretical part continues magnesium as technical material is presented. Influence of SPD on use and properties of pure magnesium is then presented. This trend is further developed in effort to describe the effect of individual HPT process variables on the properties of pure magnesium and its alloys. Focus of practical part of this thesis is in influence of number of revolutions. Samples were processed at 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 4 and 8 turns at room temperature. Speed of process was 1rpm and applied pressure was 6 GPa. The structure of commercially pure magnesium prepared by casting and moulding were observed with focus on differences caused by input material. The structure was observed by both light microscopy and back scattered electron diffraction (EBSD), focusing on structure development, grain size and grain orientation. Compared to other works on similar topic, the emphasis here is on observing the microhardness on the vertical edge of the sample. The hardness shows a steep increase right after 1/8 of a turn. With increasing number of turns gradual homogenization of microhardness is presented accompanied by slight decrease in microhardness. No trend in microhardness relative to the distance from anvil has occurred. Structure observed with EBSD shows a bimodal character with larger grains oriented in the same direction. The three-point bending test didn’t end up as expected, and the approach to evaluation of magnesium-based HPT needs to be re-evaluated for future work. A three-point bending test was designed for the initial assessment of the basic mechanical properties of the material.
Comparison of online marketing communication of SPD and TOP 09 on Facebook in terms of persuasive means
Švarc, Martin ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (advisor) ; Shavit, Anna (referee)
This thesis deals with persuasive means of the online marketing communication of Czech political parties TOP 09 and Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura (SPD) on Facebook. The core of this study is the analysis of selected Facebook posts of the two political subjects and their subsequent comparison. The objective of the research is to find out what persuasive means these political parties use and whether their communications have something in common in terms of persuasive means or not. In order to meet the set objective, a qualitative method with a combination of pragmalinguistic and content analysis elements was chosen to achieve the most accurate analysis. Therefore, a set of variables, which describe the manifestations of persuasion in political communication texts, has been created. This study focuses on a set of selected posts from the official Facebook profiles of the given political parties from September and October 2018 before the elections to the municipal councils and senate, held on October 5-6, 2018. The elections campaign period was chosen for its character of increased persuasive appeal in communication of political subjects.
