Forms of the Czech underground scene

Resumé The diploma thesis is dedicated to the forms of the Czech underground scene on the basis of the analysis of two samizdat literary journals - Vokno (1979-1989) and Revolver Revue (1985-1989). The thesis studies analogous and distinct tendencies in both magazines which became the platforms of the different underground generations. Vokno is connected with the first underground generation that was formed at the beginning of the 1970s. The second underground generation debuted at beginning of the 1980s and later united around the Revolver Revue magazine. The next part of the diploma thesis focuses on the symptomatic features of the poetics of four central writers that shaped the appearance of the journals. The analysis arises from the texts published in both Vokno and Revolver Revue magazines.

Revolver Revue: A Study of the Periodical as a Social Phenomenon Through it's Development

Revolver Revue is a cultural periodical magazine founded in 1985. Initially, as a product of Czech underground subculture, of the former communist Czechoslovakia, Revolver Revue was deemed to be illegal samizdat material. After the transformation of the social and political environment in Czechoslovakia, Revolver Revue became a legal publication, and continues to be published today, in the Czech Republic. The following work is a study of Revolver Revue as a social phenomenon in which the author works towards capturing its main defining features and its developments over time, including it's noteworthy changes as well as the continuity which the organization has seen. Also focused upon are the specific social groups related to Revolver Revue, the specific institutions and the interaction of important actors involved, all perceived through a political and historical context. This work is centred around qualitative empirical research based on analyses of interviews and on the study of related documents. The approach taken to this study was heavily influenced by Grounded Theory.

Transforming of Revolver Revue (1990-2000) and its Critical Analysis

The aim of this thesis named Transforming of the Revolver Revue (1990-2000) and its Critical Analysis is to describe the image and development of the cultural magazine Revolver Revue, including its supplement Kritická Příloha Revolver Revue during the first decade after the 1989 "Velvet revolution". Special attention is given to its literature reviews that largely determined the reception of of the magazine. Because the magazine was strongly influenced by its underground roots and the examined period of 1990s was full of remarkable socio- political changes the historical context, especially the developments of media and literature of that period, is discussed. To get an image of the magazine's role and its transformations as seen from the outside we describe how it was received by the contemporary press. The theoretical part focuses on issues of the conception of the literary criticism, which relates to the search for the role of criticism in the 1990s and it outlines the diversity of different perspectives, concepts and attitudes. The section dedicated to Kritická Příloha includes analysis of a few chosen reviews and aims to explore the form of criticism published in this magazine. What is criticism, what is not and what use is in the world. Typology of Czech literary criticism in the years 1995-2008

This bachelor's thesis describes the development of literary criticism conception and it's earlier typology. The thesis deals with the difference between literary criticism and reviews - how these dissimilarities appear in theory and in practice. The applicable typology for present Czech literary criticism has been suggested in this thesis. The typology mentioned divides literary criticism into two main types: text-oriented criticism and context-oriented criticism. It discusses the development of value conception and what is a value even nowadays. For contemporary literary critics it is originality, credibility of the work and composition. It provides information on how criticism is presented by individual Czech periodicals including Host, A2, Revolver Revue, Tvar, Souvislosti and Literární noviny.
