Regional Unemployment Analysis: Case of the Czech Republic
Šoltés, Michal ; Matějů, Jakub (advisor) ; Šopov, Daniel (referee)
In this thesis, I examine the development of regional unemployment in the Czech Republic in the past 2 decades. The statistics show that there are differentials among the regional unemployment rates. The differentials in the Czech Republic seem to be one of the highest in Europe. More importantly, the differentials appear to be persistent as the disparity is stationary and there are cointegrating vectors among the regional unemployment rates. One of the possible explanation could be the different processes of setting long-run equilibrium in regional unemployment rates. In some regions, the behaviour of unemployment is consistent with the NAIRU hypothesis, thus the long-run equilibrium is not affected by economic shocks. On the other hand, I also find regions in which the data support unemployment Hysteresis and path dependent equilibrium of unemployment rate. Moreover, most of the time, the distribution of unemployment over the regions appears to be symmetrical around its mean i.e. there is a comparable amount of regions with higher and lower unemployment rates. Hysteresis of regional unemployment: the case of Greece and Spain
Bradáčová, Lucie ; Slaný, Martin (advisor) ; Tříska, Dušan (referee)
The substantial increase in the unemployment rate after the crisis in the year 2008, its persistence and slow gradual decreasing in European countries is the reason that makes us think about if the theory of hysteresis is applicable to European labour markets. The main objective of this work is to verify the hypothesis of hysteresis in labour markets at regional level in Greece and Spain. The unit root tests were used on the time series of unemployment rate between 2001-2015 for Greek regions and 2002-2016 for the Spanish regions. The result is that the theory of hysteresis in unemployment is applicable on all the regions in both countries. When the data series of employment are used, the results are different. In Greece only Crete and in Spain regions Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Kastilie la Mancha, Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Ceuta exhibit the hysteresis in employment. There are also differences between rates of men and women in Spanish regions. When unemployment rates are considered, only three region have different results. But when employments rates are used most of women's time series can't be described as non-stationary in contrast of those of the men's.
Regional unemployment disparities: The example of the Czech Republic
Nezbeda, Jaroslav ; Slaný, Martin (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
The thesis analyzes factors, which affect regional unemployment rate in districts of the Czech Republic. It analyzes panel data of fourteen districts of the Czech Republic from years 2000-2012. It works with method of fixed effects. Next thesis covers two alternativ models, first model analyzes impact of the economic crisis between years 2000-2012 on determinants of regional unemployment rate. Second alternativ model compares factors affecting regional unemployment rate in districts of the Slovakia with factors, which have impact on regional unemployment rate in the Czech districts. Variables are devided into two groups, to economic and demographic. By regression was founded that regional unemployment rate of districts of the Czech Republic is mainly affected by economic factors, for example share of employed in the industry, level of education and regional product per capita. All of these factors have positive impact on regional unemployment rate. There is only one demographic factor which affects regional unemployment rate, it is population density, which has negative impact on regional unemployment rate. Next was founded that economic crisis influnced relationship between investment and regional unemployment rate. While before the crisis the foreign direct investment have negativ impact on regional unemployment, after the crisis foreign direct investment affects regional unemployment positively. In districts of Slovakia influence of economic and demographic factors id equal. There are for example share of employed in industry, foreign direct investment, population density and share of women on labour force.
Narušuje trh bydlení pracovní mobilitu a zaměstnanost v České republice?
Konečný, Martin ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
The main goal of the paper is to find out whether homeownership can have detrimental effect on employment in the Czech Republic. The Oswalds conjecture is tested on the set of panel data across Czech regions between the years of 2005--2012. By testing model similar to the Oswald's I receive the similar result that the rate of homeownership leads to higher rate of unemployment in following years. The second model tested in the paper does not support previous findings that regional rate of homeownership has negative effect on individual's probability of being unemployed. Possible refinements to the model are presented as inspiration for further research.
Analysis of regional disparities in unemployment in Slovakia and their causes
Pavlík, Peter ; Dobrylovský, Jiří (advisor) ; Soukup, Jindřich (referee)
The thesis is focused on the assessment of the state of unemployment in the regions of Slovakia. The aim is through the analysis of population structure by education or nationality, their economic activity or employment by economic sectors, to identify the main causes of significant differences in the reported unemployment rates between eight state regions. The thesis also provides an overview of basic theoretical concepts related to unemployment and an overview of the prior macro-economic and political development in Slovakia.
Vliv investičních pobídek na vývoj regionální nezaměstnanosti v České republice
Rybková, Lucie
This thesis deals with evaluation of influence of investment incentives on development of regional unemployment in the Czech Republic and with proposal of recommendations related to utilization of investment incentives as an instrument for promoting employment and development of regions as well as for reduction of differences in economic activity of regions. Time series from 1998 to 2014 were used to solve the problem when regional unemployment was chosen as a dependent variable, for which econometric model was created using panel regression and including investment incentives. Results of testing show (prove) that investment incentives have positive and statistically significant influence on regional employment.
The impact of global economic crisis on Czech labour market
Kupec, Ondřej ; Kotýnková, Magdalena (advisor) ; Pavlíček, Tomáš (referee)
The main topic of this master thesis is to analyze the development of (un)employment rate at Czech labour market between the years 1998 -- 2011 with the major focus on period after the impacts of economic crisis. Another goal of this essay is to evaluate and analyze the impact of the economic crisis on various labor market indicators together with sensitivity of each gender on the performance of the Czech economy. Theoretical part of essay will explain the basic concepts through the literature. The analysis will focus on comparing and evaluating the development of unemployment rates in selected regions and unemployment by gender. The method used is a comparative analysis of development of regional and gender unemployment which will be then interpreted with time series and geometrical interpretation. Theoretical foundations are confronted with the results of analytic work which enables to provide a comprehensive evaluation.
