Relationship between the state and selected NGOs in the field of providing paliative care in the Czech Republic

The aim of the thesis is to describe the role of a sample of NGOs in the process of changing the current situation in the field of palliative care in the Czech Republic. The essence of palliative care is to ensure the highest possible quality of life for the patient and his family. The present state of care is not sufficient for the number of palliative beds or home care service teams to meet the needs of an aging Czech population. Almost the exclusive care provider are NGOs, which also take on the role of initiator of a change in the persistent situation. Based on the data from semi-structured interviews with ten respondents, the thesis method of the case study reveals what is causing the unsatisfactory situation, what proposals its solutions civil society offers and what range of means to achieve change.

Civic society organizations providing social services and entrepreneurial activities in Pardubice region

SYNOPSIS This thesis covers partial universe of civic society organizations that provide social services in Pardubice region. The primary goal of the thesis is to explore, through a questionnaire research, whether the income generated by these organizations is a determining factor in their association with the concept of social economy and social enterprise. The secondary goal is to identify, using semi-structured interviews with the representatives of civic society organizations, how they fulfill principles of social enterprise based to the "softer definition" developed by EMES. The first two chapters introduce concepts of public sector and social economy as well as identify their similarities and differences. It is followed by a description of social services and support of civic society organizations from the view point of several parties. The third chapter is dedicated to the actual research.

Civil society organization operating in the Czech cinema after 1989

This thesis deals with civil society organizations in the field of cinema in the Czech Republic. Cinematography is part of art and industry, with further influences of technology, culture, social or political situation. As in other areas there creates also civil society in the field of cinematography. The aim of this work is to determine the reasons are civil society organization formed and how they function. Due to the broad approach of the target group the research project work was targeted at those organizations that contribute to the development, support and promotion of Czech cinematography in general, and are the major players with the conceptual and strategic influence to the whole area.

Civic participation within the context of professionalized CSOs in terms of their representatives

This master thesis is dealing with topic of citizen's involvement and civic participation in context of professionalized civil society organizations 's activities. The work is based on theoretical concepts of political and civic participation. Subsequently, civic participation and citizen's involvement is seen in the sense of civic activities carried out within or through civil society organizations and they include various forms in which citizens participate in public life, usually without financial reward. The paper also presents the concepts of professionalization that frame the subsequent reflection on the nature and potential of civic participation and citizen's involvement into activities of professionalized civil society organizations. The main part is a qualitative research whose aim is to describe and understand, from perspective of professionalized organization's representatives, how and why there is public participation within or through activities of the organization and what are the preferred forms and barriers of involvement and civic participation. Shrinking Space? Civil Society Organizations in the Contemporary Republic of Moldova

The thesis deals with the topic of operating space for civil society organizations in the Republic of Moldova during the period from March 2017 to February 2019. The main aim of the thesis was to determine whether the case of Moldova corresponded to the concept of shrinking space for civil society defined by Saskia Brechenmacher in her paper Civil Society under Assault in 2017. Shrinking or closing space, which occurs more and more frequently in different countries throughout the world, can be defined on the basis of three main areas: tactics, impact and international reaction. The operational space for the civil sector in the Republic of Moldova differed from Brechenmacher's concept partially in the areas of tactics and international reaction and more significantly in the area of impact due to fact that that the restrictive legislation remained in the phase of a bill. As Brechenmacher's concept does not cover all aspects of operating space in Moldova, a supplementary chapter has been added. The main difference from Brechenmacher's concept was the aspect of "simulated collaboration". State officials pretended that the civil society was involved in the decision-making process, but in fact they ignored its views.

Media representation of civil society organizations

This thesis introduces media representations of civil society organizations (CSOs) through quantitative content analysis of four dailies (HN, LN, MFD and Právo). The aim is to analyze and describe CSOs media representations in relation to media elements that characterize these representations, as well as through space and priority, organizations and actors that are associated with. The selected method allows the comparison of media representations for particular newspapers. The study builds on a social-constructivist paradigm, focusing on the agenda-setting theory, gatekeeping and news values. Thesis also discusses specifics of the CSOs and non-profit logic in relation to media and journalistic logic and their influence on the final CSOs media representations, including potential nonprofit dilemmas. The media representations are strongly determined by regionality and relationship with other sectors. CSOs are presented through positive and uncontroversial theme of good deeds. Regionality is together with social themes the most frequent topics associated with CSOs.

The forms of implementation of the principles of community education in practice. Case study of a community school.

2 Abstract The mail aim of this thesis is to set the concept of community education in the broader perspective of historical sociology and to do a case study to find out in which ways the selected Czech primary community school fulfils the principles of community education in practice. Firstly, the work focuses on the general presenta- tion of basic concepts, which are associated with community education (terms of education and community). This is followed by a description and analysis of the principles of community education and by an overview of its historical roots, first abroad and then in the Czech Republic. Attention is also paid to organizations which try to implement community education in the Czech Republic with emphasis on the role and cooperation of primary schools and civil society organizations. After this theoretically oriented part follows the empirical part, which is introduced by the design of the case study. Then the description of the community primary school is provided and results of the research are introduced. The diploma thesis entitled "Financing of civil society organizations - a case study of selected CSOs in the Czech Republic" describes the sources of financing of civil society organizations in the Czech Republic. The first part, using theoretical resources, deals with the possibilities of obtaining funding for civil society organizations. The second research part of the thesis focuses on the structure of sources of income at SDMO - Sdružení pro komplexní pé i p i d tské mozkové obrn , z. s. and whether this organization makes full use of all available sources of funding.

Purpose at work. Motivations of Workers of Selected Low-threshold Facilities for Children and Youth Bc. Michaela Valentová Abstract Diploma thesis focuses on the experience of purposefulness of employees of low- threshold facilities for children and youth. In theoretical part low-threshold facilities are firstly conceptualized as a part of Czech organized civil society. Secondly, relevant theories of purpose are introduced. In empirical part, qualitative research is conducted by in-depth interviews with nine employees of two typical civil society organizations. Workers of low-threshold facilities for children and youth construct their purpose around four categories: helping clients, professionality, work ethics and self-development. Each of these categories brings specific consequences for their organizations. The theory expects purpose to be inspirational for others, however research participants do not reflect on the possibility to inspire their clients that way. This work suggests it is caused by workers' strong emphasis on professionality which creates borders in relationships between clients and workers and also limits the possibility to inspire one another with purpose. Development of civil society organizations focusing on women's rights in Tunisia before and after the first democratic elections

In this master thesis I deal with civil society organizations in Tunisia with a focus on women's rights. Firstly, I present the conceptual frameworks I work with and I set the indicators on the basis of which I assess the organization. I present context in which organisations are operating, I describe the history of Tunisia and the state of women's rights in Tunisia. First I focus on the period before the first democratic elections, between 1987 and 2011, when president Zin Abidin bin Ali ruled. Then I move on to the period after the first democratic elections, which took place in 2011, until 2018. Subsequently, I compare the functioning of civil society organisations with a focus on women's rights in these two periods. I discuss what organizations have to deal with during their operation, what influences them and what problems they concentrate on within the framework of women's rights. I collect information and data using document analysis, and then analyze the data with open coding.
