The Polish model of the populist party: a new perspective on the populist radical right
Greger, Vojtěch ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Guasti, Petra (referee)
The Polish model of the populist party: a new perspective on the populist radical right Master's thesis Bc. Vojtěch Greger Abstract The rise of the populist radical right (PRR), a group of parties critical of the established norms of Western liberal democracy, in the 2010s, manifesting itself in events such as Brexit or the illiberal takeover of Hungary, has been a subject of considerable attention both from academics and the general public, and has been viewed with great concern. Academic studies of the PRR have often elevated the nativist elements in such parties' rhetoric while paying considerably less attention to the economic appeals thereof. However, in recent years, literature highlighting the importance of economic deprivation in fomenting support for Eurosceptic and PRR movements has begun to appear. This thesis is predicated on this literature's argument that the electoral successes of the PRR are very often driven precisely by economic deprivation and the discontent stemming from it. To illustrate our argument, we examine the electoral support of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party in the 2015 and 2019 elections using ordinary least squares regression (OLS) and geographically weighted regression (GWR). Our findings show that structural economic factors, mainly the share of workers employed in...

Second-hand Board Game Price Analysis
Novotný, Lukáš ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (referee)
This thesis investigates the determinants of price and value retention of pre- owned board games in the United States market. It is most likely the first thesis applying the hedonic pricing method to the board game industry. Two depen- dent variables, price and the portion of the original manufacturer's suggested retail price that remains, were modelled using various game characteristics. The analysis is performed on data obtained primarily from BoardGameGeek. Applying multiple linear regression and Ordinary Least Squares method on the cross-sectional sample of over 2000 observations, several factors were estimated to be significant. Condition, rating, age, complexity, duration and weight of the box turned out to be the most crucial board game value drivers. Moreover, in the case of regression on residual price share, the most significant predictors appeared to be condition, age and rating. Increasing Efficiency of Inpatient Care in the Czech Republic: ERAS Protocol Adherence in Colorectal Surgery
Hrušková, Barbora ; Bryndová, Lucie (advisor) ; Landovská, Petra (referee)
Barbora Hrušková Abstract Standardization of care is necessary to achieve more efficient inpatient care. En- hanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have proven to accelerate the recov- ery of patients, decrease lengths of stay and reduce complications. However, close adherence to the protocol is necessary to achieve the beneficial outcomes. The pur- pose of this study is to prove that higher adherence to ERAS protocol increases its efficiency by achieving lower expenses and higher productivity due to the decreased patient length of stay. De-identified dataset of patients who underwent colorectal surgery between April 2016 and March 2020 at Motol University Hospital was used for our analysis. Ordinary least squares (OLS) models were created to investigate the effect of adherence to individual items of the protocol as well as the different levels of total adherence on the length of stay. We proved that seven items of ERAS protocol are independent predictors of the length of stay. Moreover, we found an inverse relationship between the ERAS protocol adherence and the length of stay. Finally, after assigning monetary values to our results we could conclude that higher adherence to ERAS protocols provides more efficient inpatient care and contributes to cost savings in the Czech Republic.
Price Determinants of Flats Purchased for the First Time in Prague
Pelnář, Daniel ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nevrla, Matěj (referee)
Being able to correctly estimate the true intrinsic value of a flat is important for various economic agents. This paper is concerned with the price determinants of first-time- purchased flats in Prague. It is mostly about the hedonic pricing model and its applications using data from Vivus which is one of the larger flat developers operating in Prague. Ordinary least squares was the estimation method of choice in this study. The main results are as follows. The residual analysis showed no extremely overvalued or undervalued flats based on our chosen models. Moreover, the estimated increase in prices of average sized flats in Uhříněves was 36.76% from 2017 to 2019. This is a much larger magnitude if compared with the period of the financial crisis where an average sized flat in Na Vyhlídce increased in its price by 12.83% from 2007 to 2009. It is interesting to see that even during a recession, the prices of Prague flats were raising.
Price of Location: The Private versus Commercial Accommodation in Selected European Cities
Houfková, Barbora ; Kocourek, David (advisor) ; Matoušek, Jindřich (referee)
This thesis investigates the relationship between the location and the price of short-term accommodation in context of European metropolitan cities. We em- ploy the econometric OLS regression with log-level functional form to estimate the influence of main determinants on the price of the accommodation. We compare hotels and apartments in determined cities. We find out that there is a negative relationship between the distance from the city centre and the price of the accommodation. Our model determines the exact rate of drop in prices due to increasing proximity from the city centre. Furthermore, we find distance from the metro station and presence of Wi-Fi in the rooms as insignificant fac- tors for our sample. Finally, we explore that people's perception of the metro station is stable with changing proximity from the city centre. In conclusion, we provide suggestions for further research based on our analyses. Returns to schooling in different industries: The case of the Czech Republic
Havlín, Martin ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Čechová, Kristýna (referee)
The thesis examines two main issues that were not covered in much detail or at all in studies that used Czech data. Firstly, the thesis analyzes the returns to schooling taking into consideration the industry, where the individual works, and secondly, the thesis measures how returns to schooling differ in certain industry groups. An OLS regression is run based on an adjusted Mincer equation with dummy variables for the highest achieved level of schooling rather than years of schooling. The results of the first analysis show differences among returns to schooling levels and indicate that industry affects the hourly wage of individuals. The results of the second main analysis reveal substantial differences of returns to schooling for different industry groups.
