The media stereotyping of Czechs in the case of the National library

My bachelor thesis "Media stereotyping of the Czechs in the case of the National Library" explores stereotypes of Czech national identity / Czechness in the contents of Czech printed media. The media chosen are the weekly magazines Respekt and Reflex . The examined period is from 2nd March 2007 to 2nd June 2007, which means three months after the announcement of the winner of international architectural competition for the new National Library building at Letna. Qualitative content analysis method is used to define stereotypes based on the material examined. It is conceived as an interpretation of a media text. The analysis studies and interprets references found to the Czechs / the nation /the society. It examines what identity and character the chosen titles assign to the Czech nation. After that, the thesis examines the similarities and differences between the two titles. The research part is preceded by a theoretical part and a methodological part. The theoretical part explains the concepts of national identity and national character and stereotyping and describes the affair of the National Library from the point of view describing the historical problems of its premises, the course of the architectural competition and the final form of the design by Jan Kaplický. Mathematical books in public libraries

Bachelor thesis is focused on the occurrence of mathematical books in municipal libraries, especially in the town library Horní Planá, which is located in the place of my residence. In the theoretical part of the thesis I deal with the genesis of municipal libraries and their general functioning, which is based on the library laws of the Czech Republic. Furthermore, I devote to genesis of the town library in Horní Planá and its current form. Then I describe the methodological instructions of the municipal libraries described in the library standards, which published the National Library of the Czech Republic. I also describe the differences in the management of the library collections of municipal libraries in the past and today, especially the differences in the paper and digital form of library catalogs. In the second part I devote to the already mentioned mathematical books and books are popularized mathematics. I focus mainly on their occurrence in city libraries and on ways to borrow this book. On this work I compile a list of mathematical books available in the town library Horní Planá. This list is then supplemented by a collection of selected examples from available books.

Significant European national digital libraries

This bachleor thesis focuses on two main objectives. First objective is to map and describe selected national digital libraries in Europe. Second objetive is to describe its cooperation with Europeana portal. Definitions of basic terms are mentioned in the first chapter. Theoretical part of this thesis comprises of description of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of selected NDL according to mentioned model. This model concentrates on user accessibility, description of provided materials and description of web sites. Pactical part consists of comparison of the research outcomes and description of the cooperation with Europeana portal on general and specific level.

These doctoral theses deal with relationship between the architecture and the public, and a clarification of a role massmedia play in it. The particular affair related to the project of a new building for the National Library in Prague by architect Jan Kaplicky was choosed as a base of this work. Plans were designed in 2006 and 2007. The first chapter contains detailed descrioption of the affair and analysis of gathered material. It explores courses and ways mass media reflect choosen affair. And it also deduces conclusions relevant for the whole sphere of a mass media frame in which architecture operates. Persistent identifiers and their use in digital libraries

The aim of this thesis is to present persistent identification systems and analysis of the use of persistent identifiers for digital objects on a sample of national digital libraries. The first part is a brief introduction to digital libraries. The second part describes selected permanent identification systems. The third part explains elements of selected national digital libraries. The last section is an analysis of the use of persistent identifiers in various national digital libraries.
