MÁLKOVÁ, Lenka
Increased migration brings together more cultures, so there are more frequent encounters with these patients in healthcare. For these reasons, nursing staff should choose the right approach and focus on the patient's specific needs. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis deals with transcultural nursing, its history and basic concepts related to this issue. Attention is also paid to nurses' attitudes, patient needs and cultures' specifics. Two aids were set in the bachelor thesis, the first one was to map how nurses perceive a patient from different culture, the second one was to find out the most common problems occuring during practice. A qualitative survey using semi-structured interview with nurses working in hospital and outpatient care was used to determine the results. The results were then categorized into categories and subcategories by pencil and paper method. On the basis of the research, it was found that nurses try to perceive all patients in the same way. However, they realize that they sometimes encounter prejudices which they try to avoid. The issues related to the most common problems that nurses face were extensit. Nurses most often deal with communication difficulties, such as misunderstanding, language barriers, and disobeying all information from healthcare professional. In addition, problems with food, frequent, numerous and noisy visits, aggression, shame or fear of pain were also mentioned. In the case of believers, there were also mentioned problems with prayer rituals. The results of the bachelor thesis can be used for presentation at a professional conferenceor in a professional journal.
Possibilities of using culturally specific models in current nursing
BARNÁŠOVÁ, Lucie
Multicultural nursing is a concept, that can track it´s beginning to the 50s of the last century. It started thanks to Madeleine Leininger and has been succesfully evolving ever since. Because of it, a whole line of models focused on this aspect of nursing, has began. The first goal of this thesis is to analyze available literature regarding the use of the culturally specific models. The second one is to map out the possibilities of the use of the culturally specific models in current nursing. And the last goal is to create an informative material regarding the possibillity of the use of the culturally specific models in current nursing. At first, this thesis describes some theoretical bases what is a culture and some other terms connected to it. Then it describes 7 culturally specific models Leininger model, Giger-Davidhizar model, Bloch´s assesment guide, Campinha-Bacote model, Papadopoulos, Tilki and Taylor model, Purnell model and as the last one Schim, Doorenbos, Benkert and Miller model. After describing the theoretic bases, the thesis maps out the use of the culturally specific models in practice. For it, literary and online resources were used. Through them, we gained the data about the frequency of the use of these models and the topics they were focused on. This thesis then summarises the data and points out the possible uses of the culturally specific models in nursing abroad and on-site alike. This thesis is constructed to serve as an informational material for students of healthcare practices and working nurses alike.
