Critical analysis of attitudes of the professional public to Montessori approach in social work with children

The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out the attitudes of social workers who work with children as a target group towards the Montessori approach. This thesis deals with what social workers think about this specific approach, what they think about it and where they see the space for its use in their professional practice. In the theoretical basis of the work, 3 basic topics are presented: social work, Montessori approach and attitudes. The part on social work deals with defining social work and the profession of a social worker, including the legislative framework, it also deals with the specification of social work with children and the introduction of institutions where it is possible to work with children within this profession (e.g. Authority for the social and legal protection of children, low-threshold facilities for children and youth, children's crisis centres, etc.). The section on Montessori is devoted to this method and the basic pillars on which it stands. A sub-chapter is also dedicated to the founder Maria Montessori and the origin of the method itself. My bachelor´s thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on alternative pedagogy of Maria Montessori. The theoretical part also deals with key words of Maria Montesori´s educational concep. The practical part explores and verifies with parents´ interest of Montessori preschool as an educational choice for their children.

Use of non-pharmacological approaches in the care for elderly with dementia Anna Čížková ABSTRACT Subject of the present work is use of non-pharmacological methods in care about seniors with dementia in residential care homes for the elderly. The theoretical part of the work describes the problem of dementia and issues of professional and non-professional care. Five selected non-pharmacological methods, namely reminiscence, validation, pre-therapy, basal stimulation and Montessori approach, are described as well. The aim of the present work is to examine the awareness of nursing staff about the five non- pharmacological methods and to evaluate to what extend are these approaches used in residential care homes for the elderly. The level of personnel training in these approaches was investigated as well. A questionnaire survey method was selected for obtaining data about the investigated problem. A dedicated questionnaire was sent out to all residential care homes for the elderly in the Czech Republic. Filled questionnaires were received from 134 respondents. Statistical analysis of responses revealed that non-pharmacological approaches are known and used by the majority of personnel. Montessori ´s pedagogics in preschool education as one of options for a child

The thesis deals with Montessori approach to education as a choice for a child in pre-school education. The main objective is to find a reason why should the parents place a child in the Montessori Kindergarten. And whether their expectations are fulfilled. The theoretical part consists of the chapters on alternative education, Montessori and Waldorf approach to education, the curriculum for preschool education (RVP PV) and the people who first attempted to change systém of the education in the Czech Republic. Chapter named methodology describes the different methods used for research. The practical part contains the results of a qualitative research, which was conducted via questionnaires, case studies and interviews.
