The Differential Impact of Minimum Wage on Employment across the EU Regions
Sklenářová, Tereza ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Semerák, Vilém (referee)
Several studies have shown that prices differ across regions and affect standards of living substantially. This thesis investigates whether they cause the differential impact of minimum wage on employment and hours of work across the European Union NUTS 2 regions. Based on the existing regional price estimates of 7 European Union countries and publicly available aggregate regional data, estimates of regional price levels for another 11 European Union countries with minimum wage are obtained. The method that was used for this purpose (multiple imputation) enables to use the resulting estimates as an explanatory variable in another regression as it takes into consideration using imputed instead of observed values by correcting the variances of parameter coefficients. The impacts of minimum wage are investigated for 3 groups of people who are at risk of being affected by its increase - young adults (15-19 years), low-educated individuals and low-skilled individuals. The results indicate that the minimum wage has a negative impact on employment that is higher in regions with higher price levels. The negative effect of minimum wage on hours of work was not confirmed.

Pros and Cons of Minimum Wage
Krupa, Mikuláš ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Svačina, David (referee)
1 Abstract This thesis examines the relationship between the minimum wages and the job market on the case of 17 EU member countries. We found that minimum wages are indeed generally contributing to lower employment rates among young workers. Particularly, it is the teenagers that are being affected most significantly by the increases in the minimum wage. It is in line with the expectations that if minimum wages have impact on the labour market, then this influence is most visible on the groups that are more frequently earning minimum wages. Employment rate is a better indicator of minimum wage effects on the labour market as the effect on the unemployment rate is much less visible due to various mechanisms that people use to adjust to the new situation. Keywords: minimum wage, employment, labour market, jobs automation, income distribution

The constant increase of minimum wage in recent years has given novelty to the job, it is necessary to analyse its impact on the economy. Theoretical part contains three units. Within empirical part, I create 4 models where I apply Ordinary Least Squares. Significant and positive impact of increasing minimum wage on unemployment is confirmed among people aged 20-24. The impact of increasing minimum wage on employment of people aged 15-19, elementary educated people or the whole population is not significant.

Skalník, Pavel ; Vopátek, Jiří (advisor) ; Komárková, Lenka (referee)
This thesis describes and analyses a current approach towards minimum wage, its historical reasons of application and supposed impact onto the society. There is defined effect on the employer and employee as well as there are being explained particular effects of the socially-protecting and economic-criterial functions both from the theoretical and practical point of view. The main focus is given onto the theoretical concepts of the effects of the minimum wage and other economical indicators in the labour market. The analysis captures the development of timelines since 1993 up to 2015 in a graphical way (graph descriptions) and in a statistical way too (particularly via correlation and regression methods). The results of the statistical tests claim that minimum wage has no statistically significant influence onto the situation in the labour market in the Czech Republic. Supposed theoretical connection between the amount of the minimum wage and unemployment did not prove after all.
