How Does Motherhood Influence Drinking Habits? An Investigation of Alcohol Consumption Among Women in the Czech Republic.
Urbanová, Denisa ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Kúdeľová, Anna (referee)
This thesis investigates the influence of motherhood on alcohol consumption among female residents of the Czech Republic while focusing on the underly- ing effects of women's social roles. Although there are legitimate reasons to believe that motherhood leads to increased alcohol consumption, evidence also suggests that acquiring a role as a mother results in the opposite effect. By utilizing 2019 data from the European Health Interview Survey and employing logistic regressions, we uncovered that Czech women's drinking behavior is in- deed influenced by acquired social roles whose effects vary across age groups. While motherhood is protective for alcoholism in younger women, older women with more children or multiple social roles are more prone to alcoholism. 1

The dissertation Art and Motherhood deals with the influence of motherhood on the experienced reality of women active in artistic practice - artists, theorists, curators and activists. Using feminist and artistic research methods, I collect and analyse the specific experiences of individual mothers. Capturing the breadth of possible views, perspectives and experiences that motherhood brings is essential to my research. I am not concerned in isolation instances of specific artistic realisations, but rather with the processes, environments and contexts of making, and the creative and life strategies employed in reconciling the personal and professional roles of individual women artists. The content of a series of thirty-five conducted interviews comprises the research material for the work, but is also the source for the practical component of the dissertation - the book Milk and Honey co-published by the wo-men and AVU publishing houses. The practice of two related community-based mothers' groups - Breastfeeding Guerillas and Mothers Artlovers is also examined. While Breastfeeding Guerrilla is a support group for mothers promoting and normalizing breastfeeding, Mothers Artlovers is a support group for parents in the arts. All of these research units set a community-based perspective on all research affecting the universal, multi-layered and inherently collective topic of motherhood.
Maternity hospital
Kolář, Vojtěch ; Stehlík, Ondřej (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
A new concept of maternity hospital creates a place, where future mother is not stressed and where she feels free. A place, where birth is perceived as a common part of everyday life. It searches a compromise between birth at classical hospital environment on one side and birth at home on the other. Both aforementioned possibilities bring certain risks that are intended to be minimized using this concept. The idea is based on practice from birth facilities from Germany and creates new concept of so called „birth houses“ that is consistent with law in the Czech Republic. Design of maternity hospital should not be based solely on meeting technical requirements of a bulding, but first of all comfort of mothers should be taken into account to make them feel home.

The practical part of the thesis is an intimate and inner parent album, which is based on illustration of spoken word. It replaces the ordinary photo album, which is for a long time a social necessity of every young mother. During interviews with close friends of the author were created drawings that captures photographically „uncapturable“. They expressively displays completely new experience, which the mother has to go through for the very first time - mood swings, strange tastes, childbirth, but also the moment of conception. Work replaces the mentioned photo album and was formed as a family heirloom. Therefore, considerable attention has been paid to the external processing of the album.
