Francophonie in Africa and its importance in French classes
Horáčková, Eliška ; Klinka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Biegel, Madeleine (referee)
The bachelor thesis primarily deals with the process of colonization and decolonization of the Maghreb countries, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco. It also presents the general reasons leading France to colonize other territories and briefly describes how the settlement of the African continent took place. The work further outlines the main problems that have resulted from the colonization and that Africa is dealing with today, but it also addresses the benefits that brought the French presence in Africa. The work also briefly discusses the form of compensations that France provides to the now independent states. At the end of the thesis, there is an overview of the teaching materials available on the Internet devoted to the topic of colonization of the Maghreb countries. The number of materials is assessed by the author of the work as insufficient. The main goal and contribution of the work is the collection of all essential information about the colonization of countries in North Africa. The work therefore serves as a good starting material for teachers who are interested in the political development of the African continent and who would like to lead their students to intercultural education in French language classes. KEYWORDS Colonization, decolonization, Maghreb, independence, France

Holík, Jiří ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
This PhDr. thesis analyses the EU security policy towards the Maghreb between 2005 and 2010. It does so in order to ascertain to what extent the level of practical policy corresponds with the level of declarations. Also, by using the promotion of democratic governance in the Maghreb countries under the ENP as s case study, the thesis means to challenge the proposition that European Union can be described as a 'Normative Power'. First chapter briefly presents the concept of 'Normative Power Europe'. Following section looks at the European Security Strategy and localizes the primary position of the goal of democracy promotion in the document. Third part gives an overview of the European policy towards the Mediterranean under which EU relations with the Maghreb have been framed. Most attention is paid to the European Neighbourhood Policy. Next chapter examines the level of practical EU policy. It consists of three separate case studies of European policy towards Tunisia, Morocco and Libya between 2005 and 2010. The fifth and final part qualitatively analyses the way four factors (trade, energy, migration and terrorism) contributed to the structuring of relations of Tunisia, Morocco and Libya with Spain, France and Italy. The thesis arrives at the conclusion that while at the declaratory level the EU...

The Position of Morocco in International Relations
Pudelová, Tereza ; Volenec, Otakar (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The Kingdom of Morocco is special for its geographical location in the centre of interests of the African, European and American continents and for its position as a monarchy. Morocco s historical tradition as a monarchy does not prevent it from addressing important social changes. In spite of its geopolitical importance, Moroccan history and politics have long been overlooked. International development of the last two decades have shown that the importance of the Kingdom in regional and international environment is growing. Morocco proved to be an important ally of the West and the Gulf states in the Global War on Terror, the events of the Arab Spring and the current refugee crisis. Foreign relations with the United States, France and Spain have a long history and are mostly based on economic and security cooperation. Morocco is also in the centre of interests of the European Union, especially within the framework of the European neighbourhood policy. Relations with the Gulf monarchies have once again gained its importance in the context of the security threat that was posed by the revolutions of the Arab Spring. Moroccan foreign policy agenda is dominated by the dispute over Western Sahara which creates a burden for normalization of relations with Algeria and also for further integration of the Maghreb region.

Characters of father and mother and their evolution in the Driss Chraïbi's autofictions
Vojnová, Lenka ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Pohorský, Aleš (referee)
The Moroccan Driss Chraïbi belongs to the most important Francophone authors in the contemporary Maghreb literature. A lot of his works are inspired by autobiography literature and this thesis will study this part of his work. We will consider culture aspects of Driss Chraïbi's texts and focus on characters of mother and father. We will see how the traditional family model is affected by the West one, so by the European culture. The images of father develop from a patriarch tyrant to a friendly man understanding the modern world. Mother, traditionally representing the tradition and the family, becomes in certain texts fighter for the woman liberation and for women's rights. However the author does not seem to reject the tradition. The analysis focuses on these questions. At the beginning we will also introduce the author in the North African literature context and determine the part of the autofiction of Driss Chraïbi's works. Key words: Driss Chraïbi, woman, man, mother, father, Moroccan society, European society
