Media Response to Erben's Unfading Bouquet
Protasevičová, Alexandra ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The thesis deals with a comparison and compilation of the media response to the various versions of Karel Jaromír Erben's The Bouquet. The subject of comparison is the multiple reviews, starting with those published in the press immediately after the first historical publication of the poetry collection, followed by the reaction to the theatrical production at the Semafor theatre in 1972, to the reactions to the more modern adaptation in 2009. The theatrical production at the National Theatre, which premiered in 2019, was chosen for a further appropriate comparison. The thesis also focuses on film production, specifically Bouquet, directed by F. A. Brabec from 2000. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of how the different versions of Erben's Bouquet differ, and what causes the significant differences. Another question is why artists feel the need to return to the work and reinterpret the story according to them. The thesis is a critical-historical analysis, bringing a media perspective, but also a cultural-political one, with a focus on the personal dimension.
Czech talls in French
Havlíčková, Eliška ; Listíková, Renáta (advisor) ; Fučíková, Milena (referee)
The folk tales of Karel Jaromír Erben and Božena Němcová are an integral part of Czech culture and tradition. Erben and Němcová's fairy tales have been translated into many world languages, including French. Thanks to these translations, awareness of the Czech language and local culture is spread worldwide. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to determine which fairy tales by Erben and Němcová have been translated into French and to provide examples of some publishing houses that have published Czech fairy tales in French, as well as the availability and reception of these fairy tales by readers. At the end of the work, French translations are compared to their Czech originals, with a focus on a more detailed comparison of the original French fairy tale La Belle aux cheveux d'or by Madame d'Aulnoy with the Czech version by Karel Jaromír Erben of Goldilocks. Based on the comparison of selected literary texts, it is found that the French translations do not differ from the Czech originals in any significant way, with fairy tale motifs and intentions remaining preserved, but characteristics of characters may change, as is the case with La Belle aux cheveux d'or.

The fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben, Hans Christian Andersen and Oscar Wilde are the main focus. The thesis also introduces the theory of the Swiss scholar Max Lüthi formulated in The European Folktale: Form and Nature into the Czech context. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical section provides a complex explication of Max Lüthi's theory of the fairy tale. It examines the main terms that Luthi defined for the fairy tale: One-dimensionality, Depthlessness, Abstract Style, Isolation and Universal Interconnection, Sublimation and All-Inclusiveness. The diploma thesis then sums up the differences and the points of contact between those two subgenres using The Story of the Eldest Princess as an example. The practical part focuses on relevant strategies of handling the body and corporeality in fairy tales. The last chapter deals with techniques of breaking the surface of the fairy tale characters' bodies, with internal destruction of the body and with the elements in between. All is...
