Problem of Grace in St. Augustin
Spiegelová, Veronika ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with St. Augustine and his theology of grace. It briefly introduces the context of Augustine's philosophy, explains the basic terms, and mainly focuses on the interpretation of Augustine's study of grace. It first analyses the thoughts and ideas of Saint Paul, the Apostle, which are relevant to the subject. Then it moves on to explaining the continuous development of Augustine's study of grace: how it is portrayed in his early works, the way in which it developed in his argument with Pelagius, and finally it introduces Augustine's most radical idea - the concept of predestination from his work To Simplician. The last part of the thesis covers the corresponding topic of love, specifically the love of neighbour, as it is discussed by Hannah Arendth in her work Love and Saint Augustine.

Štemberková, Marie ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The Bachelor thesis The Figure of the Apostle Peter in Canonical Gospels is focussed on displaying of the leading Jesus disciple depicted in all the Gospels and the most frequently mentioned of Jesus' disciples. All canonical Gospels had their origin with a certain time span from the depicted events, so it is necessary to take into account the later reflection of his authentic life story. The first chapter summarizes the basic facts about his origin and social inclusion, attention is also paid to the use of the native name of Simon in comparison with the accepted name of Peter, by which he entered the history of the Church. The chapter provides an overview of all Petrine pericopes, verses and even brief references. The second chapter discusses the pericopes and verses shared by at least of two gospels, observing their coincidences and differences. The third chapter is focussed on special pericopes, recorded only by one of the evangelists, who, in these cases, drew on special traditions. Simon Peter was called by Jesus to follow among the first disciples, from the beginning he played a leading role among them, profiled as their spokesperson. Even though the gospel writers gave Peter individual character traits, he often had in their concepts to represent a typical Jesus disciple, with all the...

Danz and Schröter: Current concepts of protestant Christology
Kučera, Jiří ; Gallus, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
This dissertation presents current concepts of protestant Christology, primarily based on how contemporary German theologians Christian Danz and Jens Schröter formulate their Christological theses. The first two parts of the thesis present the Christological concepts of both theologians. The presentation of the two conceptions follows their distinctive character and is not primarily structured for direct comparison. The work thus also covers aspects of the two theologians that are difficult to compare. The third part of the thesis is devoted to a critical comparison of the presented Christological conceptions. The comparison highlights specific moments in both theologians, their possible contradictions, and, at times, surprising agreements. The thesis does not conclude only by stating the partial differences of the Christological conceptions but attempts to formulate some current Christological trends in a more general way. Finally, the thesis concludes with the formulation of theses that could guide the author's Christological conception.
The Jesus' Beatitudes in the Context of the Gospel of Matthew
Ondruš, Jiří ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
Bc. Ji í Ondruš The Jesus' Beatitudes in the Context of the Gospel of Matthew Anotace v anglickém jazyce: The Jesus' Beatitudes cannot be understood as a completely isolated part of Jesus' teaching. Therefore, the knowledge of the whole gospel of Matthew is necessary for their understanding. In this thesis I compare the individual words contained in the Beatitudes with the same words in the Gospel of Matthew outside the Beatitudes. By this means I find the meaning of Jesus' message in the Beatitudes contained in the Gospel of Matthew. I also present and compare ancient Greek copies (the Sinai Code and the Vatican Code) and six most famous Czech translations of this Gospel. I also compare the exegesis of well-known biblical scholars, especially what they agree on, but also what they fundamentally differ on. An important part is also a synoptic comparison with the Beatitudes of the evangelist Luke. The aim of this thesis is to get as close as possible to the meaning of the specific section of Mt 5: 1-12, which represents the lifelong program of Jesus' followers, but also Jesus. Jesus introduces himself at the beginning of the mountain sermon. He speaks not only of how his disciples are supposed to be, but also of how he is.
Jesus Heals on Sabath Day: Mark 3:1-6
Kadlec, Tomáš ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
There are several references to the passion of Jesus Christ in the Gospels even before the Crucifixion narrative. The diploma thesis discusses the first reference to Jesus' suffering in the Marcan version (Mark 3:1-6). It narrates the healing of a man with withered hand, which Jesus performed in the synagogue on the day of Sabbath before the eyes of Pharisees and Herodians. This is the last one in series of five Galilean conflicts. The importance of the passage is among others in its context with the crucifixion. The thesis starts with examination of the text from a perspective of textual criticism, context, and synoptic comparison. It also discusses the themes of the passage from the perspective of biblical symbolism: synagogue, Sabbath, hand, dry/withered, healing, Pharisees, and Herodians. The last chapter focuses on the revelation of Jesus' power, which approves him as the Lord of the Sabbath here and at the same time functions as a reference to his future crucifixion and resurrection.
Jesus and the Fulfillment of the Law in Mat 5:17-48
Kilhof, Tomáš ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
Jesus and the fulfillment of the Law in Mat 5:17-48 The bachelor thesis deals with how Jesus presents his message as the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. First, the understanding of the Law in the Old Testament and Jewish traditions is briefly described through commentary. His conception in the books of the Torah, the Decalogue and other legislative texts. Of course, Jesus, as a member of the Jewish nation, fully honors the Law, but in his view, man comes to the fore, as the highest good to be kept in mind when applying the individual provisions of the Law. A brief introduction to the Gospel of Matthew also outlines the relationship of the Gospel of Matthew to Judaism and an analysis of the "sermon on the mountain", especially Mt 5: 17-48. For comparison, some parallels from the OT are given, as well as comparisons with other Gospels. The following is an analysis of the six "antitheses", their formulation in the Old Testament, and the subsequent interpretation of Jesus and the introduction of new requirements. Jesus interprets the law and makes demands from the position of the highest authority, the Son of God. He is above the Law. The work focuses on Jesus' conception of the law and describes the difference between the letter and the spirit of the law. The main theme is Jesus as the One who...
