Social Inequalities in Colorectal Cancer Screening (Non-)Attendance in Europe
Vančíková, Sabína ; Kulhánová, Ivana (advisor) ; Ngo, Ondřej (referee)
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers worldwide, responsible for nearly a million deaths yearly. Due to its slow progression, there is a unique window of opportunity to detect (and remove) the precancerous lesions or early stages of tumors and reduce CRC incidence and mortality. Regularly repeated fecal occult blood tests for 50-74 years old individuals and a follow-up colonoscopy in case of a positive result is a recommended screening strategy in the European Union. However, each country plans its own CRC screening program, population-based or opportunistic, and the attendance rates vary across Europe. This diploma thesis aimed to characterize the main sociodemographic barriers to CRC screening attendance in Europe, utilizing comparable data from an international cross-sectional health survey EHIS wave 3. To understand the background, lifelong CRC screening non-attendance rates were calculated for each country. Social inequalities were studied on both levels - in the population of the entire Europe and the individual countries. Various socioeconomic and lifestyle factors were used in the analyses as potential predictors of CRC screening attendance behavior. Social inequalities in CRC screening non-attendance persist across Europe. The age- standardized...
Remote Sensing of the Icy Moons of Jupiter - Galileo mission
Tomášková, Eliška ; Červená, Lucie (advisor) ; Potůčková, Markéta (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on the processing and analysis of Galileo SSI and NIMS image data, which captures the Tyre region of Europa and the Kittu region of Ganymede. Initially, the problems of data retrieval from the PDS archive and its thorough radiometric and geometric corrections are addressed. Pre-processing, visualization, and subsequent data analysis were conducted using the POW tool, ISIS3, ENVI, and ArcGIS Pro software. Based on the principal component analysis of the NIMS data, the two most different end-members representing ice and "salt" were selected. These were then used in Linear Spectral Unmixing, which provided information on the spatial distribution and relative concentrations of the "salt" end-member in the study areas. The outputs from the hyperspectral data were projected over the higher spatial resolution data to examine relationships between surface morphology and composition. The resulting SSI, Voyager, and NIMS composites suggest a strong correlation between the salt component and areas with disrupted ice crust on Jupiter's icy moons. Furthermore, unsupervised classification of SSI images capturing the Tyre crater was performed and showed similar results to Linear Spectral Unmixing of the NIMS data. Additionally, significant differences in reflectance values between...
Modification of ArcMap triangular graph algorithm and its application to the analysis of fertility timing in Europe
Mondeková, Alexandra ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kraus, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis has two main objectives. The first goal is to modify the algorithm for creating a triangular graph in order to extend it to work with time. The tool modified in this way is then applied to specific demographic data, which represents the second of the intended objectives of the thesis. ArcMap and the Python programming language are used to fulfil the set goal. The analysed demographic indicator is the fertility rate by age, which is divided into three age categories representing early, middle and late fertility. This indicator is analysed between 1970 and 2020, which also represents the observed period in this thesis. The analysis itself relates to the territory of Europe, with the territorial units being made up of individual countries. The main part of the work consists of the modification of the above algorithm itself and its subsequent application, thanks to which it was possible to determine the structure and development of the monitored indicator. The main finding is that in all countries in the studied region there was a decrease in the proportion of the youngest age group, which was also associated with an increasing proportion of the oldest age group. However, this development was not uniform within the territory of Europe, but its dynamics were varied. This finding led to the creation of...
Surface manifestation of melting within the ice shell of Europa
Vach, Dominik ; Kalousová, Klára (advisor) ; Velímský, Jakub (referee)
One of the most interesting extraterrestrial bodies in the Solar System is Europa, the icy satellite of Jupiter. This icy moon might have a sufficiently hospitable environment which could be harbouring life in the subsurface ocean deep under its icy crust. The thesis thoroughly examines the generation process of one of the surface formations called chaotic terrains. These huge areas of ice disruptions which uniquely characterize Europa's surface might play a significant role in the understanding of the inner structure of the moon. The latest research assumes the chaotic terrains form above liquid water lenses perched relatively shallow in the ice shell, however, no numerical simulations have been performed to confirm this theory. The goal of the thesis is to create a model which would validate the theory and explain the formation process of the chaotic terrains. The thesis runs several simulations, and our results suggest these water lenses and the process in the mantle might play a key role in the chaotic terrains formation.
Kronika o Štylfrýdovi" and "Kronika o Bruncvíkovi" - Comparing knightly story and the book of native reading
TRUHLÁŘOVÁ, Veronika
This diploma thesis is going to focus on a comparison of a traditional knight´s short story and an early modern folk reading of the Chronicles of "Štifríd" and "Bruncvík"; the focus will be primarily on differences of the two texts. Narratives in Czech literature were repeatedly used in different time periods and in texts of various genres: from the allegorical knight's short story in the end of the 14th century to the early modern funny book of folk reading or even e.g. a folclore fairytale in the 19th century. The starting point for the work will be, therefore, an introduction of the interpretation attempts aimed at the filliation of handwritten and printed editions of the two narratives (Jaroslav Kolár's study), then an actual composition of the work (Hana Mirvaldová - Šmahelová's study) and also an allegorical presentation (Jaroslav Kolár's story). The main part of the thesis is an analysis of the handwritten releases from the turn of the 14th and 15th century and the printed edition from the 18th century, and their mutual comparison.
Does relative power of a state affects tendency toward balancing?
Lauer, Maroš ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This thesis analyses one of the key components of the neorealistic approach in international relations - the theory of balansing. Unlike the other studies on this topic, this paper doesn't analyse behaviour of the world powers. It also doesn't offer a comprehensive case studies of one particular state. The key unit of analysis in our thesis are all smaller states, which do not belong to dominant actors in their region and therefore have to fight daily for their survival in the anarchic structure of neorealist world system. In this paper we have decided to explore the relation between the two types of states' behaviour and the factors which influence the tendency of the state to choose one of them. According to the neorealist theory, we can distinguish two basic types of the state behaviour - balancing and bandwagoning. Our factors influencing this behaviour (e.g. our independent variables) are power of the state, number of available allies, geographic proximity to the dominant actor in the geographic neighbourhood and the difference in political system of the state and his closest threat. The influence of these factors is analysed in the period from the end of Napoleonic wars until the beginning of WWII. As our thesis analyses a large number of data, we decided to use primarily quantitative research...
Europa and its importance for exobiology - life in ice
Suchánek, Vladimír ; Jehlička, Jan (advisor) ; Culka, Adam (referee)
Generally we can say, that for life similar to the life on the Earth it is necessary to meet three basic prerequisites. On the surface or below the surface of the planet or the moon there must be liquid water, basic biogenic elements and no less important source of energy. If these requirements are at least partially met, the given place in the universe can be described as a potential source of life. This scientific work is dealing with the possible origins of life on one of Jupiter's moons, named Europa. The thesis is divided into four chapters, where the first three chapters deal with Europa as a place suitable for life. The fourth chapter is focused on the future research of the moon. This work is based on the data obtained from satellites Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2 and Galileo. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Dynamics of icy satelites with a liquid phase
Kalousová, Klára ; Čadek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Ricard, Yanick (referee) ; Hussmann, Hauke (referee)
Title: Dynamics of icy satellites with a liquid phase Author: Klára Kalousová Department: Department of Geophysics Department: Laboratoire de Planétologie et Géodynamique de Nantes Supervisors: Doc. RNDr. Ondřej Čadek, CSc. upervis ors: Dr. Gaël Choblet Abstract: Jupiter's moon Europa has a young surface with a plethora of unique terrains that indicate recent endogenic activity. Morphological models and spectral observations suggest that it possesses an internal ocean as well as shallow pockets of liquid water within its outer ice shell. Presence of water in a chemically rich environment and a longterm energy source ensured by tidal heating, make Europa one of the best candidates for habitability, for which the material exchange between the surface and the ocean is critical. In this thesis, we investigate internal melting and subsequent meltwater evolution within Europa's ice shell by using a two-phase formalism developed for this context. Results of a parametric study for a temperate ice shell indicate that the time scale of water transport by porous flow is governed by the ice permeability, while the ice viscosity affects the solution wavelength. We then consider a polythermal ice shell with two melting scenarios: (i) In a tidally-heated convecting ice shell, melting occurs mainly in its lower half and...
