Critical Analysis of EU Policy and Its Impact on Business of E.ON SE
Reducing CO2 Emission in Air Transport
Fričová, Barbora ; Šplíchal, Miroslav (referee) ; Kaddour, Mirvat (advisor)
Reducing CO2 emission in air transport is the main theme of this master´s thesis. As the public interest in aviation and climate change is world´s growing it could be consider as a hot topic. As a response to public interest was the creation of contracts, standards and limits of carbon dioxide emissions. The master´s thesis is divided into several parts. The first is mapping of global air traffic and carbon dioxide emissions. The second part deals with European approach to solving problems of reducing CO2 emissions follows by description of ICAO Aeroplane CO2 emissions standard. The part of the thesis is the overview of the use of biofuels in aviation and their price. The conclusion summarizes all knowledge learned while working on this thesis.
The impact of the EU ETS in the Czech Republic
Tomášková, Lenka ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Janda, Karel (referee)
This thesis examines the environmental effect of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) in the Czech Republic. Specifically, the impact of the EU ETS on CO2 emissions, carbon-fuel intensity and carbon intensity of production (measured by revenues) is analysed on installation-level financial, environmental and energy data throughout all three phases of the EU ETS over 2005 - 2019. The difference-in-differences approach with propensity score matching is used to infer the causal effect of the regulation. We find no effect of the EU ETS on carbon emissions and carbon intensities in the Czech Republic. This finding holds for various model specifications and different approaches we utilised. In the end, we discuss possible reasons why the EU ETS might not lead to any significant effect in the Czech Republic. The development of prices of CO2 allowances in relation to the world conferences about climate change
JIREK, Pavel
The main aim of this thesis is to show how emission allowances for carbon dioxide work in the emission control system of the European Union. The first and second chapters explain global warming, give a summary of views on how to solve environmental pollution using economic instruments and inform about the first summit climate changes in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. The third and fourth chapters discuss the origin and development of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) and other climate summits that were held between 2007 - 2015. The analytical part of my thesis deals with the third trading period of the EU ETS, the factors affecting the price of allowance and the measures resulting from global climate conferences. In this part I verify whether it is possible for climate conferences to be considered trend that moves the entire demand curve. This premise was tested with the aid of hypothesis: "In the period of the climate conference increases price of allowance." This hypothesis was examined on the basis of the condition ceteris paribus and the result of this thesis is the fact that conferences don't influence price of allowance. The results indicate that the price of allowance is probably influenced by other factors that were not the subject of my analysis.
Forecasting the impact of auctioning of emission allowances on the state budget of the Czech Republic
Hanák, Ondřej ; Vítek, Leoš (advisor) ; Zimmermannová, Jarmila (referee)
The increasing volume of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has led to the creation of European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This system should also fulfil an incentive function to reduce emissions. The EU ETS also participates in revenues of the state budgets. This master thesis deals with impacts of EU ETS on revenues of state budgets for each member states of this system. The thesis is compiled with calculations of revenues of state budgets. This methodology is then applied to the assessment of the impact of auctioning of emission allowances on the Czech state budget and is demonstrated on three possible scenarios.
Legal measures of climate protection
Následující kapitola analyzuje ochranu klimatu v kontextu EU. Pátá kapitola detailněji analyzuje EU ETS, jeho praktické aspekty a další vývoj. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Decision of a Steel Company Trading with Emissions
Zapletal, F. ; Šmíd, Martin
We formulate a Mean-CVaR decision problem of a production company obliged to cover its CO2 emissions by allowances. Certain amount of the allowances is given to the company for free, the missing/redundant ones have to be bought/sold on a market. To manage their risk, the company can use derivatives on emissions allowances (in particular futures and options), in addition to spot values of allowances. We solve the decision problem for the case of an real-life Czech steel company for different levels of risk aversion and different scenarios of the demand. We show that the necessity of emissions trading generally, and the risk caused by the trading in particular, can influence the production significantly even when the risk is decreased by means of derivatives. The results of the study show that even for low levels of the risk aversion, futures on allowances are optimal to use in order to reduce the risk caused by the emissions trading.
Komparační analýza trhu s emisními povolenkami v Evropské unii a Austrálii
Kadrnožková, Zuzana
This bachelor thesis is devoted to a comparative analysis of the carbon emission trading in the European Union and Australia. The first part is focused on the context of the origin of emission allowances and general principles of their using. Another part includes the information about the historical development and current status of emission trading in the European Union and Australia. In the final phase, there is evaluated the success of the previous emissions trading in the EU and there are suggested some potential solutions to problems that have arose in this market.
