Influence of urbanization patterns on the escape behaviour of birds
Dontová, Alena ; Mikula, Peter (advisor) ; Brlík, Vojtěch (referee)
Urbanization, i.e., the anthropogenic transformation of natural habitats into urban areas, has significant impact on the biodiversity. One of the key factors for successful animal survival in urban environments is the increase in their tolerance towards humans manifested by their decreased shyness. One of the field methods for assessing the level of the shyness across different individuals, populations, and species of animals is measuring their flight initiation distance. In this thesis, I focus primarily on birds, as their responses have been most extensively studied. Previous studies focused on differences in escape behaviour among birds mainly between urban and rural areas, and focused mainly on Europe and North America. However, human settlements vary in their history, size, population density, and other characteristics. Therefore, the observed patterns in bird behaviour may not always be universally applicable across all cities. In this thesis, through a literature review, I summarize how the escape behaviour of birds differs not only between urban and rural environments but also depending on the characteristics of human settlements, such as their size, history, degree of urbanization, the density of the local human population and the ecoregion. I found that the most important characteristics are the...
How to reduce overheating in Czech towns and village
Hermanová, Veronika ; Kučerová, Zdeňka (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to point out raising temperature and climate changes in towns and villages in the Czech Republic. It focuses on the impact of climate changes on health of population as well as impact on public places. It analyses and proposes all possible conceptual solutions to support sustainable development and reduction of the climate impact. The target is to indicate measures of help to nature that will navigate to positive response on the climate changes on streets and public places to achieve comfortable living in the build-up area. Part of the bachelor thesis is personal proposal for the modification of the given public space in the town of Valasske Mezirici, to which individual measures are specifically projected.
The influence of urban greenery on the quality of the environment
Prokš, Dominik ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (referee) ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the impact of urban green space on the quality of the environment. As the first topic the concept of urbanization appears and closely related to this is what the city as such represents for society. Furthermore, much attention is already paid to urban green spaces and their functions and effects on the urban environment. Public greenery has an impact on air and climate functions, as well as on rainwater management, preventing the spread of noise, trapping dust and, finally, greenery has a positive effect on the psyche of the inhabitants. Furthermore, the maintenance and care of plants and grassland is addressed. In the practical part, is discussed the concept of management and form of public urban greenery in the territory of the Statutory City of Brno, where, among other things, are described the assigned individual managers of urban greenery in the territory of the city and their duties and problems associated with maintenance. The function of the geological and informative system called GIS is also presented, which is an application for the administrators and the public for a clear orientation in the city and its environment. The last chapter is devoted to the measurement of pollutant concentrations in Brno's air.
Design of a contemporary sustainable urban structure for a 21st century city
Bretterová, Anna ; Boulaz, Ivana (referee) ; Májek, Jan (advisor)
This work focuses on the design of a new urban structure in the Břeclav and the connection of separate parts of the city while respecting the protection zones. It also includes the design of new public spaces – streets, parks, squares. The proposed solution tries to support and further develop the character of the city - the close connection with nature and the frequent use of bicycle transport. The work also deals with the revitalization of the current course of the Dyje River - the re-meandering and restoration of the old river arm. Finally, space is also dedicated to improving the quality of transport in Břeclav.
Sustainable urban neighbourhood design of a Czech city
Faryová, Markéta ; Řehák, Filip (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of the master's thesis was to propose a solution for the current urban structure, based on the principles of economic, social, and environmental sustainability – the urban vision of the city of Břeclav. The defined area is bordered by 1. máje street and the embankment of the relief arm of the Dyje river; to the east, it neighbors the historical center, and to the south, residential buildings and a hospital. Various types of buildings are found in this area: supermarkets, storage facilities, industrial complexes, residential buildings etc. However, the density of development is not high. Residential buildings within the defined area are preserved. Buildings unsuitable for the central part of the city due to their character, design, or scale will be replaced or relocated to a more suitable location. The newly proposed structure represents a compact part of the city, mainly comprising urban blocks typical of urban space. It also responds to the surrounding existing development, connecting the older and newer parts of the city. A part of the proposal involves making accessible and integrating parts of the millrace into the public space as a significant element of Břeclav's identity, which abounds in natural wealth. Together with other principles, emphasis was placed on creating a space for people that serves as a home, workplace, meeting point, and living space.

bluery
Voldán, Martin ; Gabriel, Michael (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
We've lost water. We've lost natural contact with it. Thanks to climate change, we find ourselves in a situation where we either have too much water - flash floods and melting snow, or we have a shortage during increasingly frequent droughts. Solutions are nowhere in sight. We're borrowing water from underground reserves and not planning to repay it. And yet, when it does rain, the water slips through our fingers straight out of the cities. Go away! It is necessary to reintegrate water into the everyday functioning of the city, perceive it as a fundamental part equivalent to any other infrastructure, such as greenery. Greenery = bluery. It is necessary to retain water in place. More water won't just appear, drinking water is scarce, so it's not only reasonable but crucial for our future to preserve at least a drop or two. Visible with the invisible. Visible surface flags, imaginary cherries on the technological cake in the form of underground cathedrals or banks. Aqua bank.
Kohnova cihelna (Kohn's brickyard ) – a carbon-neutral city
Hynšt, Lukáš ; Sátora, Josef (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
In recent years, there has been increasing talk of carbon-free districts, cities and even continents in the context of global warming, with intensive research into the possibilities and limits of this phenomenon. Also in this context, specific urban and architectural proposals are being developed more often than before. These proposals work with carbon-free technologies and building or urban elements that can reduce production of carbon emissions and its absorption into the atmosphere. This work also deals with this. Specifically, this work locates a new (mostly residential) district on the eastern side of Červený kopec, in the area of the former Kohn's Brickworks, and through the use of various urban design approaches and building technology solutions, it seeks to move towards achieving carbon neutrality for this complex. Author does so in the knowledge that he is not able to achieve an ideal state under the current conditions, but he considers it necessary to at least come as close to it as possible. In doing so, he applies the findings of his research on the topic of carbon neutral cities.
Principles and Solutions for Green Infrastructure Elements in European Cities
Kotrla, Jakub ; Marek, Martin
Green infrastructure is one of the most important and most addressed types of infrastructure in the last decade, also in relation to addressing the climate crisis and the related stormwater management and drought impacts. However, cities in Europe approach the application of green infrastructure elements or the application of the whole water management system very differently, which is also due to the very structure of urban development. The aim of this paper is to present the principles of green infrastructure solutions on the examples of several European cities and in the context of the Czech Republic and to specify where implementation is insufficient or what are the specific problems why implementation is not successful.

Jan Pfeiffer 2023 Charles University, Faculty of Education DISSERTATION Black. (Selected cases of phenomena in visual arts, culture and their possibilities in education) MgA. Jan Pfeiffer 2023 Abstract The subject of this work is black, or the designation for color. But it is also an artistic concept and means of expression. The subject of my interest are selected cases of the black phenomenon in visual arts, culture, and their possibilities in education. I understand black as a phenomenon that I explore through my own creative work. In the course of it, I ask myself questions, such as: what stimuli, for example, black gives us and how it is connected with our socio-cultural background and its perception. I also ask contemporary artists working consciously or unconsciously with black, what black enables them in their work, and how it supports them, whether it is crucial for them. My intention is to open new perspectives on the subject of black and its connection with daily life, the ability to treat this phenomenon as a conscious gesture, an opinion - distinguishing different uses of black context. I also examine the possibilities of reasoning verified in...
