The greatest support is provided by the family, which also provides help in the home and with other children. In conclusion, after evaluating the data collected, I believe it is important and could be beneficial to explore this issue in more detail. PROCHÁZKOVÁ, Natálie
The bachelor thesis deals with building legal awareness among children living in children's homes with the support of a social worker. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to determine the situation of legal awareness among children living in children's homes and to find out what role the social worker plays in building legal awareness among children in a selected children's home. The practical part is based on a combined type of research, the interviewing technique. First, legal awareness among children living in orphanages was investigated using prof. Gary Melton's international questionnaire. The method used was the guided interview, which was conducted individually with each child. The data collected was analyzed using the statistical program SPSS. The second research tool was a semi-structured interview which was conducted with social workers in children's homes. Coding in the subtext of the interview conducted was chosen to evaluate the data. The evaluation of the collected data was done by pencil-paper method and subsequent clustering. The research population consisted of a total of 63 people. From the research investigation, it was found that age does not affect children's attitudes towards granting rights in model situations. In terms of gender, only one situation showed that girls were more inclined to grant rights than boys. In the case of social workers and legal awareness building among children from children's homes, it was found that children's rights are primarily the concern of educators, but social workers also contribute to legal awareness building, especially before the child leaves the home. The findings of this bachelor thesis can serve all those who encounter children living in children's homes in their practice and the public who are interested in this topic.

The method used was a combined type of research. The quantitative part of the research involved 94 respondents who answered questions in a questionnaire developed by prof. Gary Melton using a guided interview. The qualitative part involved 5 workers who, through a semi-structured interview, provided a deeper understanding of how social workers contribute to building legal awareness. The research found that age does not have as significant an impact on children's attitudes to the granting of rights as might be expected. There was a difference in the attribution of rights between girls and boys in certain situations. Social workers build legal awareness through direct work with clients. Karásková, Karolina ; Makariusová, Radana (advisor) ; Ludvík, Zdeněk (referee)
The main aim of this Master's thesis is to analyse how children are recruited and abused as soldiers in armed conflicts, and how international humanitarian law protects their rights. The thesis is divided in two main parts, theoretical and empirical. In theoretical part are introduced the most important documents of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, including international governmental and non-governmental organizations which promote these rights. In empirical part, the author focuses on case studies, namely the case of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the case of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The author was not interested in finding similarities in these two cases, but conversely, to point out on the uniqueness of each case. To precise, the thesis is analysing reasons for the recruitment and abuse of children by the LRA and ISIS, and the legal responsibility of both groups. The author of this thesis chose as a methodology an instrumental case study which is useful for providing a general understanding of a phenomenon by using a particular case. In addition, this methodology is convenient for interpretation of legal documents, and two selected cases serve as instruments for interpreting the recruitment and abuse of children in armed conflicts. The...
The rights of a child and duties of a parent
Carbolová, Zuzana ; Hendrychová, Michaela (advisor) ; Šustek, Petr (referee)
Resumé This thesis, dealing with rights of a child and duties of a parent, is based on the fact that it is primarily the parents who have to fulfill their duties towards children while a child has primarily the right that a parent fulfills duties towards him. This condition is justified by the fact that children are in relation to adults, in this thesis towards parents, traditionally considered as a weaker "element". Because of that, the attention is firstly paid to the rights of a child in a wider context. In the very beginning we take into consideration a historical context of the child's rights development that shows the contrast between a premodern period when a child was considered as almost powerless and without rights and a "progressive " 20th century when a lot of international documents concentrate solely on rights of a child. As a follow-up to the child's rights development, the attention is aimed on explanation of the terms "best interests of the child" and "child's welfare". The thesis also deals with participatory rights in relation to the law court and in relation towards parents. Because the role of a family is very important in a development and education of a child, the thesis also focuses on juridical protection of the family and explains the term "family" in the European system of the...

Restorative Juvenile Justice This thesis is dealing with restorative juvenile justice. It aims to summarise and critically discuss this topic. It seeks to classify terms and theory used in order to help its readers with orientation throughout this issue as different terms and theories may often lead to unclarity and confusion. Subsequently it comes to a deeper analysis of selected parts. In particular, it examines international standards, describes thoughts of world-leading experts and eventually compares them and shows them on practical examples. Last but not least, it depicts selected theoretical foundations and draws connection between human life, inherent human nature, and use of restorative justice that is accepted as one of the main arguments for a higher effectivity in comparison to retributive justice. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with juvenile justice, children's rights and relevant international documents. The second part analyses restorative justice in general, compares different points of view and its types, and places it into a broader criminal justice framework. Furthermore, it looks at restorative justice from a more practical perspective by critically addressing the issue and providing practical examples. The third part focuses on the topic of this...
