Georgian-Russian relations in the period 2004-2011 The struggle for the Georgian Independence

This master thesis deals with the mapping and analysis of Russian-Georgian relations in the period between 2004-2011. It focuses primarily on the development of relations after the onset of the new Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and after his transformation of Georgian Policy. The work is divided into chronological historical axis of events, from the history of Georgia and Georgian people, the author gets to the problems of August war in 2008. The main objective of this work is to find the causes of the war between Russia and Georgia, to map out its long-standing hostile relations and try to find its solutions. Starting point of this work is the assumption that Georgia and Russia have always been nations culturally very similar and therefore its friendly relations are essential for the regulation of conflicts on Georgia's borders. Russia as a powerful neighbor, has always had a superiority over Georgia. Therefore, in subsequent chapters is enhanced the need for intervention by international organizations such as NATO, OSCE, EU, etc. issues in Russian-Georgian conflict, in order to offset the forces of power on both sides. Fragmentation of political space in Caucasus: Case studies of secessionist territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The main objective of this thesis deals with the efforts of de facto states of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on secesionism. The first part studies the historical roots of dispute among Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Georgia. Mutual disputes have led to an armed conflict in the early nineties after which Abkhazia and South Ossetia broke away from Georgia and began seeking the international recognition. After the Georgian-Russian war in 2008 they managed to achieve the partial recognition. The biggest ally of the afore-mentioned countries seems to be Russia which provides them with political, economical and military support. The thesis also analyzes the role of Russia in the conflict and its subsequent implementation. The final chapter focuses on the evaluation of Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's statehood. The Mirror of Russia in Works of Czech Writers (From K. Havlíček to J. Hašek)

This thesis has an analytical-interpretative character and is divided into two sections. The subject of its research is the mirror of Russia in Czech travelogues of the 19th century. On the background of evolution of the idea of Pan-Slavism and formation of Czech society, the first part of this work tries to establish factual overview of expeditions to Russia in the second half of the 19th century. The second part has purely interpretative character and places emphasis on comparison of reflections from the stay in the Caucasus. Both sections are focus on methods of depicting Russian reality and selection of individual motives for realization of the trips.

Multiculturalism in Russia : Muslim population case study

Many researchers say that the multiculturalism in Russia has emerged recently, but this term started to dеvеlop few dеcades ago. During this time period we have seen its significant change and improvement. Russian sociеty culturally is very divеrse. There are many different nаtions, culturеs, religions, and even civilizations living in Russia. The uniqueness of Russia consists in the fact that those different culturеs are its indigenous people. There is probably no other stаte in the world with such a high number of different culturеs living together relatively peacefully for centuries. Also, culturally diverse population of Russia is not composed of migrаnts as in the case of Europe or the USA. For this purpose the beginning of the thesis is dedicated to understanding of the term multiculturalism, cultural diversity, minority groups and similar. Multiculturalism developed significantly especially in the phase of last events which took place in the Wеst. The 9/11 has brought several changes. Also, the latest incidents (and the speeches of the several lеadеrs) in Europe have shown Europeans and the rest of the world that the situation in immigrаnt welcoming rеgions is not positive as before. Comparison of the influence of ethnicity in separatistic regions of Caucasus

The main topic of this bachelor thesis is a comparative analysis of the influence of ethnicity within the separatistic regions of Caucasus. Caucasian region is characterized by its long-term instability. The very nature of these conflicts is composed of many layers which are closely related, such as religious, ethnic, economic, and even ideological and power strifes. The text primarily tries to find common and different features of these areas based on an analysis of historical development, the military escalation and post-conflict reconstruction. The aim is to find evidence that the role of ethnicity in researched conflicts played a key role.

The economy of North Caucasus and its growth potential

The major objective of this study is to analyze the development of the economy of northern Caucasus and its growth potential. By northern Caucasus in present thesis is considered the North Caucasus Federal District of Russia. The introduction briefly presents basic information about the study area and major historical events. The first part, which includes an introduction and theoretical background, characterizes the concept of economic growth, including the world-famous models of Harrod, Domar and Solow. In the practical part there`re analyzed the sources of economic growth of the region, especially labor, human capital and infrastructure. The two final chapters are specifically concerned with possible threats and opportunities for future economic development of SKFO, also the principal points and changes are proposed for faster and more efficient economic growth of the district.

Polito-economic situation in the Caucasus

This thesis is supposed to offer an overview of the political and economic situation in the Caucasus. Its chapters include information about basic characteristics of the region, brief history (mostly the 20th century), the situation in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and seven russian autonomous republics nowadays, and the conflicts between caucasian nations, ethnic groups and different religions. As a result, it can be considered as a certain summary of the facts about the Caucasus.
