The Bartered Bride and its Use in Music Education at Primary Shool

DIPLOMA THESIS The Bartered Bride and its Use in Music Education at Primary School Petra Prýmková ABSTRACT The diploma thesis deals with the opera The Bartered Bride by Bedřich Smetana and its pedagogical interpretation in music education at primary school. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the concept of didactic interpretation, which relies heavily on the musical analysis of the chosen opera. The analytical section includes a description of the composer's musical language and a brief introduction to his life. The musical analysis presents the origins, performance, libretto, cast and other historical and social aspects of the opera. The musical analysis focuses on those parts of The Bartered Bride that are essential for the use of the musical work and its didactic interpretation in the music education process. The practical part of the thesis provides a didactic interpretation of selected parts of Smetana's work. A group of primary school students serves as a sample. The outcome of the thesis is a set of didactic materials that can be used as an inspirational source for future and current music teachers at the primary school level. Folk music in the work of Czech authors

The master's thesis is focused on the presence of folk music and culture in the work of four Czech authors, Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů. In the theoretical part, the composers are introduced in chronological order. The emphasis is put on the key moments and influences that subsequently shaped their relationship to folk music. There is also provided the historical and social context necessary for understanding the topic. Furthermore, there are also stated and described the compositions that are inspired by folk music or use it explicitly. The compositions are stated alongside corresponding sheet music. In the practical part, selected compositions, which were discussed in the theoretical part, are used as material for teaching activities. These activities were created for teaching music education at lower secondary schools. In the activities, accessible folk music is used as a mean to understand more demanding classical music. All activities are tested in pedagogical practice and are therefore provided with a description, goals, methodological commentary, and graphic materials.
Interpretative and pedegogical prehension of Bedřich Smetana's Bagatelles and Impromtus cycle

The aim of this diploma thesis is a profound understanding of the compositional intention and interpretation of the piano cycles Bagatelles et Impromtus by Bedřich Smetana. The first part of the thesis focuses on composer's personality and circumstances associated with the origin of this music piece. The second part of the thesis deals with a complex analysis of individual parts of the music cycle and its educational and interpretative grasp. Part of this thesis is an interview with pianist Miroslav Sekera and his view on the interpretation of the work.

His influence is usually perceived as very strong, but seems to have changed over time, and moreover weakened. An important topic will also be the development of the attitude of historians, writers and other cultural personalities to the personality and work of Zdeněk Nejedlý in the context of Czech history in the second half of the twentieth century. Decoration of Smetana Hall in Municipal House in Prague

This thesis deals with the decoration of Smetana Hall in the Municipal House of Prague, which was built between 1905-1912. The emphasis is based on a complex description of each art work, mailny paintings of Karel Špillar and sculptures of Ladislav Šaloun, which are situated in Smetana Hall; and on position of these art works within the heritage of each artist. First chapters describe the formation of the ideas for the final image of Smetana Hall and in general also of Municipal House. The last part of this text is then devoted to a comparison with other concert halls, reflects contemporary critics on art decoration of the Hall, and also judges the Hall in its century long history.
The oboe solo in Smetana's Blaník in the context of the 19th century pastoral musical motifs

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to point to the tradition of pastoral in the 19th century symphonic music with the use of the oboe or english horn as the instruments with a special characteristic to this color. As a principal specimen of this kind of music to this thesis was chosen the oboe solo of Smetana's Blaník symphonic poem. In connection with this symphonic poem all the so far known analysis of this piece have been recapitulated with the addition of a proposal to the new possible approach to such an analysis of this piece and all this was laid out to two individual chapters. Through the next specimens of 19 th century pastoral music, among which have been selected parts of Beethoven's, Rossini's, Berlioz's or Wagner's pieces is given evidence of the another compositional approaches to this topos of the 19th century European symphonic music.
