Litomyšl of Albert from Šternberk

The medieval study Litomyšl of Albert from Šternberk is a fusion of two historiographical methods. Regionally-historical and biographical. These methods lead to the unusual view of this issue, which had already been established in literature. This paper focuses mainly on the history of bishopric in Litomyšl and its center (town and domain). The author tries to look at this topic through Albert from Šternberk, who was an important imperial prelate-diplomat and also a bishop of Litomyšl during years 1364-1368 and 1371-1380. In order to maintain a complexity of this topic, it is essential to focus on both Alberts live and genesis of young Litomyšl diocese. For this reason the first part of the study is an analysis of emergence and formation of bishopric in Litomyšl, which is followed by a comprehensive study of Albert's political live. Than, the author gets to the very issue of the relationship between the monitored prelate and his Litomyšl dioceses and he tries to look at this relationship from several different perspectives. The reason for using this approach is an effort to speak out against the persistent view, that Litomyšl bishops in the era of Karl IV. Renewal of the Augustinian Lay Community in the Czech Republic after 1989

The thesis Renewal of the Augustinian Lay Community in the Czech Republic after 1989 deals with the renewal of religious life in Augustinian laymen communities in the Czech Republic that started in the last decade of the 20th century. The development of this renewal is pursued against the backdrop of political and social changes in the Czech society, and in the Catholic Church in general. The Order of St. Augustine, its history, monastic rules, and spirituality, including its lay community, are introduced briefly too. A comparison of religious life both in the Czech Republic and in Italy, where it took place continuously for centuries, helps clarify the process of renewal.

Exhortatio ad canonicos regulares de vicio proprietatis: regular canons and property in late MIddle Ages

This thesis encompasses an edition of the text Exhortatio ad canonicos regulares de vitio proprietatis, contained in manuscript III D 16 from the National library of the Czech Republic in Prague, which was formerly in possession of the monastery library of regular canons in Roudnice nad Labem. The edition is based on eight manuscripts, and a second edition of a parallel text has been created from another two manuscripts. The thesis includes a description of the manuscripts, a textual analysis examining the text's origin and its connection with other tracts about property of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, particularly the works by Henry of Langenstein, as well as a translation of the tract into Czech.

The Augustinian Canons of Roudnice: Their Library and Writings

The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the library of Augustinan canons in Roudnice nad Labem (Raudnitz in German) and assess its place in late medieval culture in Bohemia. The first chapter surveys the history of the monastery. It was founded by the bishop of Prague, Jan IV. from Dražice, in 1333. The monastery flourished and was supported by the highest ecclesiastical officials, but it was destroyed in 1421 during the Hussite wars; the canons escaped to Germany (Erfurt) and to Poland (Wroclaw, Żagań/Sagan). There is substantial evidence on the history of the monastery in Roudnice; several important documents of the monastery have survived, especially monastic statutes, the necrologium of the monastery and also its cartulary. Then the monastic library is explored. In addition to the manuscripts themselves, there are notes on the books in the necrologium of the monastery and several other indirect sources. Unfortunately it is impossible to reconstruct the entire content of the library of the Augustian canons in Roudnice; nevertheless, over one hundred manuscripts that used to be kept in the library have been identified.
