Břoušková, Barbora ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Gabrhelík, Roman (referee)
Alcoholics Anonymous is the largest and best-known self-help organization. In the Czech Republic, neither its position nor its number and characteristics of its members are known yet. Therefore it is necessary to learn more about them. There is a supervised therapy, as well as AA. Is it possible to find a connection between these "different" approaches to alcohol addiction therapy? The theoretical part contains a description of alcohol addiction, information about the system of medical care for alcoholics and information on the current situation in the Czech Republic. The most important information is described in the chapter on Alcoholics Anonymous fellowship. The main research objective is to describe the characteristics, behavior and motivation of all AA groups in Prague and possibly find out which place can AA hold in the system of addictology services. In accordance with the objective five research questions were specified. Data were collected through a questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using mathematical and statistical techniques with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software. The questionnaire was composed of 19 questions. Respondents were nominated by a total group selection. The survey covers all groups of Alcoholics Anonymous based in Prague. The process of addiction treatment in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous
Němcová, Lucie ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Hájek, Martin (referee)
This thesis concerns an alternative approach to the alcohol-addiction treatment within the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and highlights the importance of self-help groups in the contemporary society. This worldwide biggest self-help group uses sociologically important processes to achieve a new way of life connected with sobriety. I have studied these processes through the participant observation. Alcoholics Anonymous influences its members through its specific culture which reflects in group rituals, high level of group affiliation, spirituality and co-constructed community story, which bears the member's knowledge. This thesis looks on the transition to identity of the sober alcoholic and the new way of living according to Twelve-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous through the perspective of drift model of conversion, transition rituals or principles used in the narrative therapy. Within these processes there occurs radical reconstruction of perceptual, cognitive and behavioral schemes which influence the meanings in the interpretation of everyday life and consecutively change the identity of the individual and his social action. These changes of the individual are strengthened by the group members and then gradually spread out of the group boundaries too.

Annotated Czech Translation: The Irrationality of Alcoholics Anonymous; The Atlantic, 2015
Secká, Lucie ; Mraček, David (advisor) ; Šťastná, Zuzana (referee)
In my bachelor thesis, I translate a story from English into Czech. It is called The Irrationality of Alcoholics Anonymous and was written by Gabrielle Glaser. The story was published in 2015. Its main subject is the inefficiency of Alcoholics Anonymous in the USA. The text presents more modern and effective ways of treatment. The thesis consists of two parts - translation and commentary - which consist of analysing the original text and typology of translation problems and shifts. In the first part, I translate selected parts of the story. In the proces, I focus on the main functions of the text and preserve the dominant function of the original. I try to convey the message in such a way which would be understandable for the receiver. I also aim at writing a text which would allow the reader to clearly grasp the concept. The second part is theoretical. I write up a fictitious translation assignment. I comment on the stylistics of the original and, consequently, analyse the internal and external factors of the original text according to Christiane Nord examining the lexis, syntax and pragmatics of the original. I present a translation strategy which I follow in my translation. I put forward the more serious and interesting translation problems and shifts and their solution. I analyse them according...

Hrušková, Eliška ; Havránková, Olga (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Petr (referee)
Self-help groups are an interesting phenomenon and they could serve as a significant complement to the social services. Nevertheless they don't attract much attention in the Czech republic. In the theoretical part this thesis is trying to describe in detail how the self-help groups work, how they can complement social services and what are their risks and limitations. In the practical part a research was conducted in order to understand and map the situation of Czech self-help groups. This research was based on the internet search engine and registry of social services providers. The goal of the research was to map the self-help groups in the Czech republic in relation to geographical and typological allocation. The outcome of the research is a directory of active self-help groups that should serve both social workers and potencial clients of the self-help groups.

The influence of alcoholism on divorce rate
RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Veronika
Alcohol is nowadays a tolerated drug which has a destructive effect not only on the consumer, but even on the whole society. The Czech Republic occupies the first place in alcohol consumption rate per an adult person per year; it means 16.6 litres of pure alcohol, the most in the European Union. Annually, up to 2.5 million people die worldwide as a result of the harmful alcohol use. The bachelor thesis concerning the topic of the influence of alcoholism on the divorce rate is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the information and findings in the specialized literature. The attention is paid on the history of alcoholism. It deals with the definition of addiction, its signs and developmental stages at onset of alcohol addiction. The following chapter concerns with the biological, psychological and sociocultural causes of the onset of alcohol addiction.Alcohol addiction is often connected with unemployment, homelessness, frequent injuries and transport crashes under the influence of alcohol and crimes. This problem is a concern of a single chapter. Nowadays more attention is paid to alcoholism among women. A pregnant woman consuming alcohol endangers the fetal development and through her addiction she disturbs the family functioning more than a man. The thesis follows with the chapter concerning the influence of addiction on a family. There I want to show how alcohol addiction of a family member disturbs the fulfilling of the basic family functions for encouraging the correct development and socialisation of a child. A marriage burdened with alcohol addiction solves this malignant situation by the means of divorce. At the end of the theoretical part I direct my attention to the treatment of alcoholism, which is very diverse, although among the most common methods belong detoxification, ambulatory care, stationary and institutional treatment. There I mention the importance of subsequent care which helps to an abstinent to deal with pitfalls of life out of the sanatorium and live a satisfying life without alcohol. The empirical part was worked out on the basis of a quality empirical research by the means of structured dialogues. The research was carried out in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous in České Budějovice and in Olomouc. The researched group consisted of ten members of Alcoholics Anonymous, five men and five women. The research comprised 31 questions.Six respondents underwent the anti-alcohol treatment because of the family. The average length of marriage, from the beginning of drinking to the divorce, was 4.3 years. Most respondents agreed that there was no impulse which led to the end of the marriage, the only reason was long-term dysfunctional relationship due to alcohol addiction. Only two respondents reported that the last impulse for divorce was adultery and dropping of child, both under the influence of alcohol. Broken family relationships differ in many cases. The most often the respondents moved away from the family, two respondents even broke the contact with the family. All women respondents were separated from the child, primarily due to the beginning of a treatment or due to the protection of the child. Two respondents meet their families after the divorce, mainly because of preventing children from this awkward situation. The change of respondent´s relationship towards children was very significant. Three respondents broke the contact with the family and children at all. Other respondents undertook a long journey to gain confidence of their children and to re establish the previous relationships. Seven respondents supported this process owing to the treatment and effort to live a sober life. Nine respondents fulfilled or fulfil the obligations towards their children, only in one case the respondent found himself in an unfavourable financial situation.
