Especially questions focused on the issue of providing activation programmes were aimed at social workers. This thesis consists of a theoretical, and an empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on changes occuring during old age, on the suitable technique of senior communication, and possible activation programmes that may be applied in senior homes. The empirical part consists of four aims. The following was being detected: the reasons why seniors do not join activation programmes in senior facilities, and what activation programmes seniors in senior facilities are provided with, as well as the ways these programmes are being provided. The last aim was trying to detect how general nurses participate in activation programmes, as well as their knowledge in this area. A semi-structured interview technique was chosen for the purposes of the empirical part of this thesis. The obtained information was processed via the pen-paper method, and further, using open coding, divided into the 3 relevant categories. The general-nurse category contains four more subcategories, social worker category five subcategories, and senior category six subcategories. The survey results prove that the most frequently given reasons for not involving seniors into these activities is unsatisfactory health condition, but also other personal reasons. Senior facilities offer a wide programme choice. All programmes except dramatherapy are represented. Activation programmes are provided based on health condition and the seniors´ wishes in an individual or group form. General nurses take part in preparing the seniors for the activation programmes. Some help in activity implementation. The general nurses´ knowledge about the held activation programmes in their facility are more than satisfactory. All of the general nurses were even able to list the professional titles of activation programmes. This thesis helps to sketch possible reasons why seniors refuse to get involved in activation programmes, the satisfaction with programme offer, and personal opinions on new programmes, rooms, and staff implementing these programmes.
