Laurent Demoulin: Robinson. Translation of a Literary Debut of a Belgian Author and Introduction to the Czech Literary Scene

The aim of this thesis is to create a translation of selected chapters of the first novel by the Belgian author Laurent Demoulin called Robinson and to complement it with a study commenting on the problems of translation of the given text and describing the efforts to promote this novel for publication by a Czech publisher. In the first part of the thesis, the graduate will introduce the text - she will give basic information about the author, the title and the publisher, summarize critical responses and analyze the stylistic level of the text. The second part of the thesis presents the actual translation of selected chapters of the novel. The third part of the thesis will be devoted to this translation: the graduate will comment on the complicated passages, the chosen translation method and finally summarize the contribution of the editorial reading. The aim of this thesis is a commented translation from French to Czech language. The source text was selected from the book La diététique du cerveau, du plaisir et de l'intelligence, which treats the subject of brain dietetics. The theoretical part of the thesis includes a translation analysis of the source text and subsequently demonstrates with examples some of the specific problems, proceedings and shifts that occured within the translation. This essay deals with the problem of the retirement in the second half of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century based on the fictional works of Vlasta Pittnerová, who was the author of simply female novels and romances set in the countryside surroundings. The essay is patterned on the comparison of the Vlasta Pitterová´s writings/works and the results of the modern historians, who are dealing with the issue of the social history of the rural areas. This essay is based on the combination of the social history, microhistory and history of the everyday life, methodologically. The main topic of the essay are transfers of the rural farms, marriage strategies and retirement. The short excursion into the Czech literature of the 19th century and Vlasta Pittnerová ´s life itself constitutes the secondary theme of the essay. What ´s more her life infuences her works in many ways. To the research were used the novels and romances setting of big farms, mills, and blacksmith´s workshops. Their storylines, plots and backgrounds are compared with the results of modern historiography on the theme of the rural family. The main purpose of this essay is to verify whether he rural thematic prose can - besides the historical official sources of the registration consider as another possibility of a relevant source of knowledge of the everyday life in the countryside and in individual families.
Historical-geographical aspects of population development of the town of Polná

Bachelor thesis deals with the historical-geographical aspects of population development of the town of Polná. Polná is compared with the development of selected cities of region Vysočina the emphasis is put on the period of industrialization. Introduction contains a set of goals, hypotheses, structure and concept of work. Followed by methodology of work and discussion with literature and with in the past appeared works on this topic. The basis of the thesis consists of three chapters. The first section introduces the geographical and historical characteristics of Polná. The following part contains an analysis of population development, explanation in terms of specifying determinants and causality of population development of Polná and other monitored cities. Afterwards, all cities are mutually compared in the specified periods. The fifth chapter devotes to the synthesis of discovered findings in the preceding text and generalization of long-term trends, tendencies of population development and clarification of the differentiation of cities in the region. It summarizes the main aspects of developments and tries to predict the future progress of the population development of cities. The final part summarizes the results, deals with verifying the hypotheses and the achievement of the goals defined in the introduction. The thesis includes lists of used literature and resources, graphs, charts and maps.
