Media education as a part of foreign language educationat czech schools

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of media education as a part of foreign language education at Czech schools. The thesis is divided into three major part - the theoretical background with analysis of national curriculum and school curricula, the practical part - qualitative research of teacher's opinions and quantitative research of student's opinions on media education. The third part offers description of activities and handouts that can be used in English classes to improve the level of media literacy. It proved that the connection of media education and foreign language classes is not indicated in the Frame Educational Programme, however it gives the possibility to school to integrate the topic into any subject. Based on the analysis of the school educational programmes of selected school it was found out that schools do integrate media education into many subjects including foreign languages. Most of the foreign language teachers claimed that they integrate media education into their classes. However, they are limited by certain barriers - primary school teachers especially by low language knowledge. Media and digital technologies in primary school education

The end of the twentieth century is the beginning of significant development in the area of digital technologies. Modern technologies make our everyday life easier, they enable us to work more effectively, and they are a source of fun for all the age groups. Modern technologies have a great impact on us and our environment and thus they deserve our attention. Children, who are in everyday contact with modern technologies since the day they were born, are an especially sensitive group exposed to modern technologies. Thus this thesis aims to investigate whether Czech primary schools are aware of these digital changes in society and whether they react to these. In the theoretical part, an overview of the digital world (media, cyberspace, virtual reality) and the state of equipment at schools is being mapped. The research then focuses on using technologies in everyday life at schools. It concentrates on computer literacy of teachers at public elementary schools in Prague 7, their attitude to digital technologies, and their readiness to adapt to the fast pace of technological innovations.
External customer magazines alias on-board magazines of carriers in the Czech Republic

The Master's thesis focuses on the current on-board magazines of carriers operating in the Czech Republic. On-board magazines, ranking among the customer magazines are set in the context of marketing and media communication and subsequently defined on the basis of distinctive content and formal characteristics and communication objectives. There are seven current on-board magazines analyzed within the thesis (Review, Travel Service Magazine, ČD pro vás, Žlutý, LEO Express, Leopold and Můj vláček). Methodological background of this thesis is the qualitative content analysis, specifically two partial research methods: description and comparison. It evaluated thematic structure of each journal, graphic design and linguistic level, the historical development and the distribution method. Part of the analysis is also focused on blending of advertising and editorial content, which were investigated through framing analysis. The results of the qualitative analysis were verified by questionnaire survey.
Didactic potential of the magazine Mateřídouška in the implementation of media education at primary school

The thesis deals with the didactic potential of the magazine Mateřídouška, especially its possible application in the implementation of media education at primary school. The first part of the Thesis focuses on the theoretical knowledge of the psychological development of the child, reader literacy and media literacy and media education as one of the Curricula program for primary education. The second part is a brief analysis of magazine for primary school children. Subsequently, the work focuses longest stemming magazine for primary school children - Mateřídouška magazine. In the analysis are used knowledge presented in the theoretical part of the Thesis. Emphasis is placed upon the analysis primarily on the didactic potential Mateřídouška. The aim of the Thesis is finding if Mateřídouška magazine could be used in the implementation of media education at primary school.
YouTube community: sponzorship and partnership on YouTube

This bachelor thesis aims to introduce the reader to the YouTube community phenomenon and strives to provide better understanding of selected marketing strategies linked with this community. This thesis seeks to answer all the questions about sponsorship and partnership on YouTube by looking into contracts offered by this site. It also covers questions about its effectivenes and usefulness. The work is rich in theory on this social media and therefore serves as a good source of knowledge on its overall function as well as its history, evolution and current trends. In the summary this thesis offers an explanation of possible future development. The main section of this bachelor work is also dedicated to uncover the process of monetization of YouTube's original content. With the help of czech and foreign literature the first half of the thesis summarizes theories on the success of this site and its celebrities. The second half contains few selected case studies, providing better insight into the inner workings of YouTube. Upon reading this thesis, one should have been able to better analyze the original content of this social media.
Diversity in the newsroom: a journalist, member of an ethnic/national minority, in the czech nationwide media

The diploma thesis deals with a characteristic of a journalist, who belongs to an ethnic/national minority, in the newsrooms of nationwide media in the Czech Republic. Its aim is to explain, how the minority journalist understand their professional role and what effect their ethnic identity has on their professional self-concept in the newsroom. The work also aims to determine the extent to which the principles of diversity management are applied in the newsrooms and how the management supervisors monitor and evaluate them. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on professionalisation of the profession of journalists, their role and the construction of identity and ethnic identity of minority journalists in the newsroom. The work also represents the elements of diversity management and its application in the newsrooms. In the empirical part of the research by means of analysis of the interviews not only structure and interaction of professional and ethnic identity of the journalists in the Czech media and their tenure at the newspapers, but also a supervisors' point of view and the application of the principles of the diversity management in the area of Czech nationwide media are evaluated. Shool broadcasting as a tool for the developement of the media leteracy

The bachelor thesis School broadcasting as a tool for the developement of the media literacy is dedicated to the creation of the school radio in the context of the media literacy. In particular, the bachelor thesis deals with the role of media production activities in the media education and their expected outputs, with an emphasis on the school radio. In the theoretical part of the thesis is first of all characterised the consolidation of the media education in the Czech eduacational system with the focus on the concept learning by doing. Subsequently, the thesis is dedicated to the school radio, its history and the technical and personal aspect of its operation. Besides, it contemplates the problem of the methodical support for teachers and school radio creators. Moreover, a brief description of chosen foreign projects concerning methodical support is brought up. The practical part of the thesis consists the data obtained from interviews with redactions of school radios in schools in the Czech republic. It is mainly focused on the practical side of the operation of the school radio and on competences that students can gain by participating on the creation of the school radio. In the end, these competences and experiences are compared with expected outputs of production activities in media education.
Media education from the view of students

Media education is focused on the systematic increase of media literacy, and in most developed countries it is included in the education system at various levels of educational institutions. The aim of this thesis is to bring a different perspective on the issue of media education, and specifically from the point of view of students. The thesis concerns the teaching of media education and also provides an insight into the situation at a particular grammar school. Theoretical solutions described in the first chapter of the thesis provide a basic outline associated with the definition of concepts and with the approach to current forms of media education. The central part consists of the research of the status of media education in secondary schools. The specific research was realised at grammar school in Třebíč, where the teaching of media education is applied through voluntary optional seminars for students. The research was conducted by using a qualitative method of focused groups among students of the third and fourth year of grammar school. Concurrently with the qualitative research, quantitative research was conducted through a questionnaire survey among students of the second year of grammar school. Risks of internet space

The goal of this thesis is to map children users' theoretical knowledge of risks of the Internet. It deals with problems of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, sexting and cybergrooming in the youngest city of the Czech Republic, in Milovice. It describes the dangerous behaviour patterns that the children at the age of 11-15 years (i.e. the second stage of elementary schools) in that city are confronted with and that they tend to follow-up. The research shows how they perceive risks of the Internet and how much they trust strange people online. It finds out whether the children make relations with strangers and whether they meet them in real world, where they would look for help if needed and whether they are familiar with some projects focused on the Internet safety. The definition of risk factors of the new media and specification of child users are crucial for the thesis. The thesis also briefly describes Czech legislation connected with risks of cyberspace and outlines the profiles of the aggressors and their victims. It shows possible after-effects of cyber criminality on the real examples. Massive online open course (MOOC)

The MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) bachelor thesis deals with the educational potential of media, focusing on a modern phenomenon in education - the massive open online courses. It traces their development, evaluates the benefits of online learning and identifies the differences between graduates of the massive open online courses in the Czech Republic and abroad, using the questionnaire method. Moreover, the paper documents what preceded the massive online courses, through the development and defining of distance education, e-learning and lifelong education. The readers are also made aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the massive open online courses in comparison to traditional education.
