Understanding the Czech Foreign Policy. The Case of the EU Sanctions against the Russian Federation

This thesis examines the decision of the Czech Republic on the adoption of the EU sanctions against Russia over Ukraine. The perception of the Czech Republic and its behaviour is perceived ambiguously. For that reason, qualitative analysis of the decision was conducted in order to arrive at the understanding of the Czech position. The author works with a concept of identity based on Social Constructivist and Foreign Policy Analysis scholarship. It is argued that the elite idealistic identity, which is held by a proportion of Czech politicians and official, can be used as a variable in Czech foreign policy and a tool to enhance the understanding of it. Education of immigrants in Sweden and Czechia

Sweden is known as immigration country for a few decades already, but the number of immigrants has rapidly grown during the last years making Sweden one of the European countries with the greatest share of immigrants on total population. In opposite, Czechia is far behind traditional immigrant countries with its number of newcomers, but after joining the European Union, the country has transformed from emigrant to transit and later even to immigrant state with the greatest number of newcomers among Central European states. With immigration, the issue of new minorities and their relation with the majority of society have appeared. The policy of education plays a crucial role in this issue because it has the potential to form society and affect all generations including immigrants. The aim of the thesis is to analyse possibilities of education if immigrants with the emphasis on integration in the education system and compare both countries thorough legislation, observation and interviews with representants of primary schools. Influence of the European Union activities against aggressive tax planning on enabling tax optimization by member states of the EU

Jurisdictions around the world currently compete to attract mobile capital of multinational companies by providing them the most favourable tax conditions. Some EU member states actively participate in tax competition. Over the past decade, the European Commission has successfully enacted a number of measures aimed at preventing multinational companies from implementing aggressive tax planning schemes. These measures aim to establish fair conditions for competitors on the internal market and to meet the demand of the public and of the international community for suppression of aggressive tax planning. The theoretical background of the thesis derives from the field of Law and Economics, specifically by using the concept of transaction costs and means of Economic analysis of criminality. This thesis aims to answer the question of whether the new EU legislation leaves room for the member states to continue in allowing multinational companies to optimize taxes in the ways targeted by the EU measures. The thesis consists of two case studies, which evaluate the impact of the rules on known tax optimization schemes. EU Arctic Strategy: Question of EU actorness

This Master Thesis is depicting process of establishing actorness of the EU within international space, that is limited for this research on area of the Arctic. Policies of the EU are not uniformly developed, some are stronger, and some are weaker, that is a reason why in certain moments or position could be EU considered a non-actor. Document of Arctic Strategy is presenting system of three pillars- spheres in which the EU will be fulfilling its goals. Using the actorness assessment method by Bretherton, C. et Vogler, J. could be found out, how much a certain pillar is strong and whether the EU is able to fulfil its role as an actor in the light of its goals.

Supranational and intergovernmental approach to the accession process of Montenegro to the European Union

The volume deals with the analysis of the relationship of the two dominant theoretical approaches of European integration - supranational and intergovernmental - towards the EU enlargement policy on the example of the accession process of Montenegro. The research goes into depth by analysing not the complex accession process as such, but the relations and attention of various European institutions and the EU member states to the particular and deliberately selected negotiation chapters of the Acquis Communautaire. The main aim of the thesis is to find out to what extent and whether at all does the behaviour of the EU institutions and its member states by the accession process correspond with the internal structure of the EU policies and competences stipulated in the EU treaties. The thesis succeeded to show that there is no reason to believe that the activities of the supranational institutions of the EU - the Commission and the Parliament - are dominant by chapter which is closely connected to the exclusive competence of the EU or that they would pay any special attention to this chapter. British reaction to the Arab Spring events in the context of United Kingdom's relations with Persian Gulf countries

The diploma thesis named British reaction to the Arab Spring events in the context of United Kingdom's relations with Persian Gulf countries is concerned with an impact of the revolutionary events of 2011, known as the Arab Spring, on bilateral cooperation between United Kingdom on one side and Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman on the other. While using quantitative analysis approach, it depicts how the Persian Gulf developments were reflected by prominent British representatives and members of the Cameron coalition government. Since the government promised to approach foreign policy matters through a liberal-conservative lens and also planned to further deepen its relations with Persian Gulf countries, the Arab Spring events can be interpreted as a clear dilemma for British policymakers. This thesis aims to answer whether such dilemma forced the government officials to re-asses the traditionally warm attitudes towards Persian Gulf and additionally, it demonstrates which spheres of their cooperation were threatened the most.
