Chamber Music by Terezín Composers

The output of the composers coming from Terezfn has arisen from a very specific background, based on both historical and sociocultural pOints of view. Ghetto Terezin, in its final solution of Jewish issue, stood for the place of an accumulating concentration camp designed as a final solution for the Jewish people living in the nazi-occupied countries. The Jews being kept under the Nazis' control, had to carry out various orders and they were treated in a very cruel way. The music culture originated here absolutely illegally but later, when the international organizations expressed its interest in the situations in concentration camps, the Nazis started to "beautify" ghetto for the committee's eyes. The majority of music works comes from the music orchestras needs to obtain some musical scores which was got rid of by the arrival in the concentration camp. Therefore the new music works are mostly only chamber music or choruses. All these music works are written for the same purpose - to interpret hopes to all auditors - co-prisoners. It was just music, paintings and literature presenting in daily life, which helped prisoners to remain as human as possible. Prague Hlahol Choir

The introductory chapter of this Thesis describes the development of choir music in Bohemia, starting with unison singing, through polyphonic singing, proceeding to forming of literary societies, and, finally, the form of choir singing as we know it today. In the theoretical part, we use the most important historic and social moments of the Prague Hlahol Choir to illustrate almost 155 years of its existence. The following chapter reflects the most significant concerts, introduces the choir's repertoire and how it changed through times, mentions premieres of choir masterpieces, cooperation with other significant choirs and prominent musicians. In the practical part, we reprint the interviews with long-time choir members and personal experience of some of the artists who have cooperated with the Prague Hlahol Choir. To complete this Thesis, we used anniversary almanacs, annual reports, historic documents and photographs, etc. We also included personal views of the choir members, choir leaders and the prominent musicians who have cooperated with the choir. Development of the boy and man choir singing with focus on voice education of boys

The Diploma thesis is divided into two big separate structures. The first one deals with a complete summary of history of music with focus on the representation of boy and male choir singing in different eras of musical evolution. It also gives an overview of the most important authors (and their works), who worked in time of male choirs' greatest expansion in our country - period of national renaissance. Also, it offers an overview of the choir ensembles of this type, which work in Czech Republic and abroad nowadays. The second structure is focused on professional work with boy's voice in time before mutation and during mutation and on the way which choirs function and the way of boys' motivation. Because there is not much Czech literature dealing with boys' voice during mutation, this part of diploma thesis is composed mainly from practical point of view. In purpose of practical assessment of this subject, a method of written questionnaire was used, given to choirmasters of the choirs in Czech Republic of such type. Choir directors also summarize their opinions from perspective of cooperation and concurrence between each boy choirs in Czech Republic.

The main topic of the diploma thesis is comparison of selected interpretations of St. John's Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. The part about life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach is followed by short analysis of libretto, choice of instruments and historic performances of St. John's Passion. The Final chapter deals with selected recordings of Bach's St. John's Passion - Karel Richter (1970), Nakolaus Harnoncourt (1985), Masaaki Suzuki (2000) and Raphaël Pichon (2013). Songs Development in Evangelic Church

Diploma thesis Development of song production in The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren involves in its introduction part the historical context of The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren formation and its musical heritage. The main part of the thesis is concerned with the influence of different phenomenons that participated in the creation and formalization of the church songs. Not only general environmental influences, historical epoch or artistic style, but also specific music system elements can be found in these songs, this substance is described in the second part. A number of songs from evangelical hymn-book illustrates the specific impact of individual factors. There are six fields subjectively selected for analyzing the topic in terms of contemporary evangelical church music and church service in the chapter Song analysis. This part contains 12 comprehensive analyses of evangelical songs.

The main topic of the bachelor thesis is the analysis of Ordinarium by Karel Bříza. The part about life and work of Karel Bříza is followed by short historical-theological explanation of texts from Ordinarium Missae. The study itself consists of music component analysis. Final chapter deals with recordings of Bříza's Ordinarium from churches in Prague. The mail goal is to describe common mistakes which are frequently repeated, find out whether the organists follow prescribed accompaniment and to evaluate quality of music in Prague's churches.
