Communication between teachers and pupils in elementary school in gender perspective

Ve své práci se zaměřuji na pedagogickou komunikaci a případně genderové stereotypy, které se zde mohou odrážet. Tato diplomová práce se skládá ze dvou částí, z teoretické a empirické. V teoretické části lze rozlišit dva oddíly. V prvním oddíle vymezuji základní pojmy a uvádím základní teoretická východiska genderových teorií. V druhém oddíle se pak podrobněji zaměřuji na instituci školy a způsoby, jak se zde mohou genderové stereotypy promítat. Empirická část představuje popis a vyhodnocení výzkumu, který jsem prováděla na prvním stupni základní školy. Tento výzkum probíhal ve čtvrté třídě, kde jsem pozorovala případnou míru genderového zatížení pedagogické komunikace u tří učitelek. Jednalo se o kvalitativní výzkum, v rámci kterého jsem používala jednoduché kvantitativní metody. Empirickou část tak lze rozdělit na kvalitativní a kvazi-kvantitativní. Kvazikvantitativní díl obsahuje analýzu a interpretaci dat ze záznamového archu. Záznamový arch jsem vytvářela sama, na základě předběžného pozorování, ale také jsem se inspirovala genderové orientovanou odbornou literaturou. Subcultures and the reflection of their dressing trends in eight and ninth graders

The subject matter of this diploma thesis is subculturals in eighth and ninth class of primary school and their attire general drifts. It undertakes also evaluate influence of subculturals on a group dynamism. Basis are my visits of one's class of primary school in second half of eighth class plus first half of ninth class. In this class I spent mostly 4 o'clock weekly. For my research I chose a city in the northern part of the Czech republic with approximately 25 thousands inhabitants. My selected school is situated in the nearly of a city centre and i is attended 400 students.
Choice of Career in Gender Perspective

This study is focused on elementary school last year's schoolboys and schoolgirls occupational choices in terms of gender perspective. This dimension accompanies every one of us within our living reality, influences our mind, behaviour and acting. No wonder it influences in certain way also preferences of teenagers choosing their career. The goal of this study is to map occupational choosing processes of elementary school last year's schoolboys and schoolgirls in terms of gender perspective. There have been set up several research targets. The principal question is as following: Which way / where differ occupational choices of today's ninth class schoolboys and schoolgirls influenced with gender arrangement and gender stereotypes? Further questions touch related topics: How the gender arrangement influences these teenager's future plans? To what degree acts school for the benefit of equal opportunities when prepares for the occupational choice? How the schoolboys, schoolgirls and their teachers perceive job market segregation, being anticipated by education and preparation for particular occupation, which is in itself influenced with the gender arrangement? Household school, it's history, development and the future in the future in the Czech Republic in the eyes of the studies alumnae

The topic of my thesis is the Household school, its history, development and its future in the Czech Republic as seen through the eyes of graduates. In this thesis I examine the Household school also as an institution, especially its history, function and its integration into the system of education. Using available materials, I compare the curricula and plans of individual programmes over various periods of time. Beyond the integration of the Household school into the Czech Republic's education system, I focused on the Household school's alumnae, who studied this field in various periods of the last century, and my target was to obtain their statement. I was interested mainly in their motivation to the study of this field, their expectation and then, consequently, comparison of these expectations with the reality. As an interesting result seems the view of this field in the society which the alumnae met with while the looking for a job on the market. For this purpose, I organised personal meetings and interviews with these alumnae. As one of the alumnae of this programme, I compared my own experience with the experience of the research's participants and for the evaluation of the form and atmosphere I used my own gender sensitivity.
Gender stereotypes from teachers' approach to students at the Grammar School.

Gender stereotypes exist in society at large, and in the education system in particular. These stereotypes show the male as the dominant person, who works outside the home in often prestigious occupations. The female is usually showed as being subordinate and confined to the home. Moreover, these stereotypes give the fact that females choose predominantly humanistic and domestic sciences, while males choose science and technology. In my dissertation I analyze gender stereotypes that are in teachers' minds at the Grammar School. Eight teachers participated in this research, in eight different classes. The research is separated into three basic parts: videotyping of lessons and their analyze, the self-reflection from teachers and finally, individual interwiev between researcher and respondent that is also analysed in the name of gender stereotypes. The aim of my research is to analyze gender stereotypes from teachers to students with aspect of different access to girls and boys.
Gender roles and school

The aim of the thesis is to examine and compare the notions of gender roles in the view of students, teachers and textbooks. The issue of gender roles involved in school environment concerns theoretical concepts of social construction of gender and theories of gender socialization. In the view of social constructionism gender as a social phenomenon is created, institutionalized and made into traditions by humans. Social constructionism is opposed to essentialism. A gender role is a set of behavioral norms associated with males and females in a given social group or institution. Schools, among other social institutions, are organized upon a dichotomous gender/sex system. According to cultural rules, norms and values, certain characteristics, attributes and roles are assigned to males and females based on their biological sex. The process through which the individual learns and accepts roles is called socialization. Socialization works by encouraging wanted and discouraging unwanted behavior. School as one of the agencies of socialization performs role behavior models and expectations. Through mechanisms of social control sanctions are used to make it clear what behavioral norms the child is expected to follow. Diploma thesis deals with gender in Primary school. Attention in this field is focused especially on the relationship among the teacher and his/her students in the teaching process. Theoretical study to the research project Gender aspects of transitions between educational levels

The publication is a theoretical study related to the research project Gender aspects of transitions between educational levels which is conducted in 2004-05. The study is focused on education from a gender perspective. The gender approach and its concept in social science is proposed at the beginning. The gender aspects of education are considered in association with those aspects of labour market. The part focused on gender in education in general covers the analysis of participation of men and women among teachers and students, pedagogical communication, curricula, textbooks and educational outcomes from a gender perspective. The gender analysis in university education and in the sphere of science and research is part of the study. In addition all levels of Czech sphere of education are described with begard to representation of men and women among students and trachers. The purpose, objectives and methods of conducted research are outlined in the final part.
