Factors influencing interpreter's performance in educational facility

The thesis deals mainly with all the aspects having an impact on the interpreter's setting at primary and secondary schools and colleges. Whether special or mainstream with deaf students integrated. In the theoretical part, we can learn about characteristics of educational interpreting, development of this type of interpreting in the Czech Republic and the situation in interpreting in 1991 and since that year until now. Most of the work deals with the individual factors that influence the quality of simultaneous interpretation in general way. From these factors, I chose those that were specific to sign language interpreting in the sphere of education. To have an idea of what the current situation in the education of interpreters is, I interviewed one interpreter of each secondary school or college. In the practical part we will find a questionnaire survey of Czech sign language interpreters working in the field of education. This survey aims to determine whether the factors have anticipated impact on interpreters in education during the interpretation process, and if so to what extent. Answers and opinions of the interpreters from the questionnaire investigation have been summarized in the survey part. Tests and testing of sign language abilities of deaf children

This bachelors thesis deals with the assessment of skills in sign language. It includes a deep insight into the general issue of evaluation methods (especially of creating tests) as well as description of selected tests of sign language. Part of the work is devoted to modifications of existing tests to which process linguists and other experts now often tend. Also is introduced a specific modification procedure of selected sign language test into Czech sign language. This should serve in the future to a complete version of such test.
A Contrastive Approach in Teaching Czech Language to Czech Deaf

This work deals with the issue of teaching Czech language to Czech deaf and with the importance of sign language in this teaching process. There is described a process of language acquisition (for hearing and deaf children) and there is also described the difference between acquiring the first language and learning a second / foreign language. The work also denotes the causes of low literacy of Czech deaf and the possibility of solving this problem. Only a major change in the way of teaching Czech language can be the solution. Czech is a second language for Czech deaf and if we want it to be taught effectively, it must be taught in the contrast with the Czech sign language. Entrance level of interpreting and language skills of interpreters of sign language

This bachelor's thesis deals with description of language qualification in czech language and czech sign language, description of interpreter's skills of sign language interpreters corresponding with B2 level according to Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). Its aim is to create the test which tests the level of langauge qualification and interpreter's skills on the base of obtained information and its subsequent using in practice and also support a general discussion about various ways of testing of sign language interpreters. and cooperation among deaf people organizations and professional organizations in our country. The function/ (and) comprehensibility of written Czech in the intracultural communication of the deaf

This Bachelor Thesis deals with the topic of written Czech language in the interactive communication of the Deaf. The theoretical part comprises chapters about the general specifics of the Deaf community, their characteristic communication features (intercultural, but primarily intra-cultural), the specifics of their written language and of their reading skills. Furthermore, the theoretical part covers topics such as interference from mother/first tongue and translation theory, as these are closely connected with inter- and intra-cultural communication of the Deaf. The practical part explores research on intra-cultural communication. Specifically, by exploring the question if Czech texts written by the Deaf have a function in intra-cultural communication of this language minority, and if they are comprehensible for the readers. The initial hypothesis is that the Deaf understand defective texts created by Deaf themselves better than grammatically correct texts written by Czech native speakers. Typology of errors in the process of interpretation from Czech sign language into Czech

The objective of this thesis is to categorise and describe formal errors of sign language interpreters. It focuses on errors committed during interpretation from a sign language into a spoken language, e.g. from the Czech sign language into Czech. Sign language interpreting is usually simultaneous. That is why there is a chapter on the simultaneous interpretation process. Next chapter describes interpreting strategies and roles of simultaneous interpretation process participants. The subsequent part describes the specificity of sign language interpretation. In includes a brief history of interpreting for the deaf as well as equal competences of both spoken and sign languages interpreters, specific competences of sign language interpreters and an explanation of similarities and differences between spoken and sign language interpretation. The next section is focused on errors of spoken language interpreters and errors of sign language interpreters. Empirical part describes research based on recordings of formals errors of sign language interpreters. This chapter defines the research hypothesis and formal errors resulting from individual research and it contains an analysis of the research itself. The code of ethics in the light of the current community interpreting for the deaf in the Czech environment

In my bachelor thesis I have summarized the key points of the Code of Ethics which all interpreters should follow. I have also explained the term "community interpreting" and introduced fundamental community interpreting specifics. Furthermore, I have described several examples of interpreting situations in which it is not easy for an interpreter to find the right professional behaviour. The second part of my thesis concerns the survey I have carried out among Deaf people who use interpreter services. I have made an inquiry about their concept of ideal community interpreter services. From the answers I have received on possible changes and improvements of the services, I consequently proposed the Code of Ethics which, I believe, would be suitable for community interpreting.
