The theoretical background of Anglo-American land art and its transformation in Czech context
Lomová, Johana ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Pospiszyl, Tomáš (referee)
The M.A. thesis describes an artistic approach called Land Art and its development in the end of the Sixties and the beginning of the Seventies in both the USA and the ČSSR. Methodologically the thesis follows a premise that Land Art was shaped by its time (e.g. its social and political contexts). The thesis first introduces texts that were written by the American artists and are regarded as an important element in artistic efforts to create a new form of art. The Czech understanding and appropriation of land art follows. Since early Czech representatives of the land art did not produce similar texts themselves, the case of land art in Czechoslovakia is studied using contemporary writings by art historians and critics close to the artists. The difference in the understanding of land art in both countries may be summarized as critical on the side of American artists, and cosmological on the side of the artists in Czechoslovakia. However on a more general level, the meaning of land art as primarily a statement against the establishment and will for freedom, were present in both social and political contexts.
ASMR
Stejskalová, Bára Anna ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (advisor) ; PAVLÁTOVÁ, Michaela (referee)
ASMR is a phenomena, which tries to induce a feeling of a physical touch in the viewer. It is spread mostly on the Youtube platform. His creators are primarily amateurs, who pushed this sector from the most simple videos to the half-professional level through using professional technology (very sensitive microphones, 360° shooting, using googles for virtual reality). Elicit the physical response through flm could enrich the viewer´s experience from the piece. Yet, the ASMR remains in the underground. The goal of this thesis is to describe and analyse ASMR, compare it to audio-visual media production and ask a question, whenever it is possible to induce the physical responce, with the same principals, in the animation.
The Media Image of Visual Arts in Czech Television
Švarcová, Barbora ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis consists of a context and textual analysis of Artmix, a TV show dedicated to visual arts, while touching on other relevant programs on Czech TV. The results of these analyses are then brought into theoretical setting primarily using the philosophical and social concept of the Field of Power as defined by Pierre Bourdieu in his book Rules of Art. Principal themes, interspersing throughout the text, are the limits of reflections of visual arts through TV screen and hidden interpretational patterns applied to visual arts through its media image. Furthermore there is an additional issue of traditional notions of an artist existing within our society, weighed down by history, or the quest for the ideal format of a TV show reflecting visual arts.

Hlaváčková, Hedvika ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (advisor) ; RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Alice (referee)
The subject of this theses are the films of Lithuanian avant-garde artist, organizator and original interpreter of life, Jonas Mekas. Specifically I'm dealing with the development of his work from the complex film-diaritical sagas to video pieces presented on his web side. I'm exploaring where does he see the diference between the way he captures life and what we call documentary film, what does a reality means to him and how does he get closer to it's essence with the help of his camera. I'm observing how did the recent technical development effected his work - the arrival of video, computers and subsequently internet. I'm trying to understand where does diary-film stand in the frame of history of cinema and where is it's place in the context of the contemporary art scene.

ANTHONY MCCALL'S "OTHER" FILMS
Břicháčková, Klára ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (advisor) ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (referee)
The thesis "Anthony McCall's Other Films" deals with new possibilities of film as a medium. McCall designs light installations which surround the spectator in a gallery space. In my thesis I examine the reasons leading him to the creation of such minimalistic films, exploring his inspirations and interests. Even though his art works at first sight do not resemble films as we know them, I find it intriguing to think of them as films. Anthony McCall enabled us to enter the abstract world of his films. It is a world in which each spectator plays the main part.

We can witness a particularly strong influence of the above mentioned modernist illustration and visual culture of that period in general among producers employing digital tools and vector graphics served. The thesis contains a historical study which follows developments of the visual language of graphic arts (illustration in particular) in the 1950s and 1960s in relation to fine arts. There is a special focus on a position of the 1960s’ modernist illustration within the applied arts of the period. Biographical study dedicated to illustrator M. Šašek introduce key figure of the (late) modernist period.
Back from the Future
Langová, Michaela ; Pospiszyl, Tomáš (referee) ; Kvíčala, Petr (advisor)
The cornerstone is a general view of the future as a world that is markedly different from ours. This vision of the future cannot be done due to the influence of presence. Inner inspiration is objects with unclear functions occurring in science fiction (stories Space Odyssey and AC Clark and iconic roadside picnic). Formally, the objects are inspired by different things from the world of science fiction (kryptonite, traffic alien machines from a newer version of War of the Worlds, Star Trek series and their transporters, etc.). Against this background, I am creating minimal objects with small signs of function as a testimony of traveler to the future. The basic material is a transparent silicone and LEDs.
