Storytelling and Reconciliation: Shifts in Frames and Discursive Narratives in Listeners of the Initiative "My Story" in Bosnia and Herzegovina Hana Oberpfalzerová Abstract In Bosnia and Herzegovina, two non-governmental organizations have been running the initiative "My Story" within which three war victims, one Bosniak, one Serb and one Croat, tell their wartime stories and their way to reconciliation in public testimonies in a side-by-side, live setting to an audience of young people or ordinary citizens. The aim of the initiative is to promote reconciliation in the listeners. This doctoral dissertation integrates several disparate fields in order to create an analytical framework for inferring attitude shifts from the discursive narratives recalled by the listeners, and from the frames that connect the single narratives to broader societal discourses within these discursive narratives. Three public testimonies were analyzed and interviews with eighteen listeners from the three Bosnian nations were conducted, some of which were interviewed by phone about four months later to check for further attitude changes. The Intractability of The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Comparing The Delegitimizing Discourse in Political Speeches by Benjamin Netanyahu and Mahmoud Abbas from 2015 until 2018

This bachelor's thesis views and analyzes the Israel-Palestinian conflict through the lens of Louis Kriesberg's intractable conflict theory (Kriesberg, 1998) and Daniel Bar-Tal's theory of delegitimization (Bar-Tal,1998). This work compares mutual delegitimization and the discourse of the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas by using a thematic discourse analysis. This work builds specifically on the theory of delegitimization of Neta Oren and Daniel Bar-Tal (Oren, Bar-Tal, 2007), which consists of five dimensions of delegitimization: dehumanization, trait characterization, outcasting, political labels, and group comparison. A sample of speeches of Benjamin Netanyahu and Mahmoud Abbas from the years from 2015 until 2018 has been analyzed. The delineation is chosen in this way since in 1994, peace accords between Israel and Palestine broke down. Also in this period character of conflicts changed to so-called Third intifada, which consists of series of smaller frequent conflicts. Benjamin Netanyahu and Mahmoud Abbas as political leaders of both countries play significant roles in the Israel-Palestinian conflict development. Peace and Security in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina

Although it has been more than twenty years since the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the country is still on its path to recovery, which has been very slow and very painful. The unemployment rate is staggering high, the brain drain presents a serious issue, and the country's political system looks like anything but sustainable. The Dayton Agreement may have stopped the war, but it also created a complex political structure that does not encourage the cooperation among the three constituent peoples on the scale as it was envisioned. The aim of this work is to investigate to what extent the Dayton Agreement has solidified the constructed divisions and hatreds between the ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, the thesis seeks to examine in which ways the Dayton Agreement facilities and legitimizes the political elites' quest for securitizing the ethnic identity of the respective groups. It will also try to explain the reasons behind the rapid rise of nationalism that led to the brutal war as some of these motives may still reflect the current situation in the post- Dayton period. The Bachelor thesis "The International Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic in Africa" discusses the historical progress of relations between Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic and African states since the 3rd decade of the 20st century in the context of the international development cooperation. Step by step it analyzes the conceptualization of Czechoslovakian and Czech foreign policy and the creation of fundamental development documents. Special emphasis is placed on current relations with selected African states and the evaluation of the mutual Development Cooperation in supported sectors within the frame of Development Cooperation Strategy of the Czech Republic 2010 - 2017.

NATO Enlargement in the Western Balkans: Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Dayton Peace Agreement was signed in 1995, which effectively ended the war in Bosnian and established a decentralized state. This divisive nature of this framework encourages the political elite and decision makers to place a greater importance upon preserving political power, rather than making meaningful institutional changes. They consistently instrumentalize interthnic fears as a means to gain popular support at the expense of the country's development. The inability to cooperate has led to political stalemate and contributed to low level of progress in many sectors. Nonetheless, the possibility of accession to NATO remains open if the criteria for membership are satisfied. The international community bears the responsibility of integrating Bosnia and Herzegovina because of its strategic importance and the potential threats that can develop if political tensions escalate into an armed conflict. The recent accession of Montenegro and North Macedonia to NATO proves the doors remains open for aspiring countries that show the political will to deepen their relationship with the Alliance. Bosnia has made remarkable transformations in its security and defense sector, though it must resolve the current issues that impeded its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

Extremism-countering security measures in Bosnia-Herzegovina: Room for improvement?

1 Abstract This diploma thesis' aim was to find out what are the security measures countering radicalization and extremism in Bosnia-Herzegovina and whether there is any room for improvement. Firstly, the thesis analysed several official documents related to the security of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the relevant reports of the international community, in order to review the concrete security measures and compared them with security measures, which are in effect in other European countries. This allowed the author to draw specific security recommendation for Bosnia-Herzegovina based on the best-practices from abroad. Secondly, this thesis provides the opinions of three experts on Bosnia-Herzegovina and its internal situation. The experts assessed the security situation in the country, identified the areas of security which shall be enhanced and proposed concrete measures, which could elevate the security situation in the country. This thesis's main assumption was that the security measures currently in effect are insufficient and that there is much room for improvement.
