Development of Method for Determination of Endocrine Disruptors in Environmental Samples
Novotná, Veronika ; Bosáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Čabala, Radomír (referee)
There are many substances of natural and anthropogenic origin at present called endocrine disruptors which may influence endocrine system of animals and humans. A complex analysis of endocrine disruptors in environmental samples is important for knowledge of their behaviour in living environment and for their risk estimation. A complex method has been developed in this thesis for an analysis of bisphenol A, 17α-ethinylestradiol, irgasan and 4-nonylphenol in activated sludge and soil involving ASE extraction, sludge extract cleaning with silicagel and GPC and subsequent GC/MS and HPLC/UV samples quantification. These final extraction conditions of ASE have been settled: extraction mixture DCM:acetone (3:1 v/v), temperature 60 řC, pressure 1700 psi, 3 extraction cycles. ASE yield during soil extraction has been settled in range of 93,0-116,3 % with RSD 2,7-5,7% by HPLC/UV analysis and 93,3-106,0 % with RSD 9,3-15,6 % by GC/MS analysis. The whole method yield including the cleaning steps has been settled in range of 78,2-111,2 % with RSD 4,1-10,6 % in HPLC/UV quantification and 74,6-88,9 % with RSD 3,7-18,2 % in GC/MS quantification. The method application on the artificially contaminated sludge and soil samples analyzed after five months of storage has provided the yield of all analysts in range of...
Learner goals and attitudes to mistakes from an ELT and ELF perspective
Dunková, Jiřina ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (advisor) ; Gráf, Tomáš (referee)
The present research focuses on students' attitudes and preferences towards English language learning at Czech private language schools. In essence, the thesis focuses on unearthing the relationship and attitudes of students towards language mistakes, goals, and creativity. The study approaches language learning from more and less norm-bound perspectives and the English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) paradigm is introduced. In connection with the main focus of the research the intention is also to detect tendencies that could hint at the suitability of integrating knowledge about ELF into English Language Teaching (ELT). To obtain original data from the selected target group I conducted a mixed-method research (a questionnaire survey and in-class observations). The key concepts discussed are: mistakes, learner goals, learner needs, accuracy and language creativity (or 'languaging'). Key words: EFL, ELF, learner goals, accuracy, language creativity, languaging.

Existential quantifier "some" in determinative and pronominal functions, and its translation equivalents in Czech
Řenčová, Andrea ; Šaldová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (referee)
This thesis deals with existential quantifier some and its compound forms someone, somebody and something. The English pronoun some has two basic functions: pronominal and determinative. In Czech the grammatical category of definiteness is missing. The lack of the category of definiteness is reflected in the use of the translation equivalents that are manifold. In many cases there are no explicit correlates. The pronunciation of some in determinative or pronominal function is also the subject of this paper as well as the occurence of some in assertive or non-assertive contexts. The use of someone and somebody differs stylistically. The English pronominal compounds are also compared with the Czech translation correlates. By means of ParaConc, a parallel concordance software, the total number of 105 examples of some, 30 examples of something, 30 examples of someone and 9 instances of somebody was gathered. The collected material is based on both American and British English, the main sources being A Widow for One Year by John Irving and The Holy Thief by Ellis Peters.

English gerund and its Czech translation equivalents
Benešová, Adéla ; Brůhová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (referee)
The purpose of the present work was to analyse the English gerund and its Czech translation equivalents. The gerund and its translation equivalents were gathered from two parallel literary texts: Kazuo Ishiguro's An Artist of the Floating World, translated by Jiří Hanuš, and Joanne K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, translated by Vladimír Medek. For the research we used ParaConc, concordance software for multilingual parallel corpora. The resulting excerpts were then analysed from the linguistic point of view in order to provide a contrastive description of the English gerund and its Czech equivalent expressions; as a background texts were used comprehensive English and Czech grammar books. The study aimed to illuminate two related areas; namely the types of Czech translation equivalents of gerunds and the correspondence of the types of Czech translation equivalents with various syntactic functions of the gerunds. The analysis provided details about the regularities that occur in the translations of the various syntactic functions of the gerund. It was also proved that the translation of the English gerund into Czech is closely associated with the interpretation of the analytic language into the syntactic language; the confrontation of the language types may be used as background to...
Exploration of assumptions of the job success for people leaving the children's home.
Novotná, Veronika ; Lorenzová, Jitka (advisor) ; Gulová, Lenka (referee) ; Sekera, Julius (referee)
The topic of the dissertation is the research of the assumptions for employment of people who spent part or all of their childhood and adolescence in children's homes. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical parts. The theoretical part is devoted to the analysis of competences that are currently important prerequisites for employment in the labour market, integration of young people from institutional education into professional life, the problems of institutional education and the developmental period of adolescence, in which young people from institutions usually enter the labour market. The methods used in this section include theoretical analysis and interpretation of key concepts and findings presented in the literature, implemented research and other sources in order to provide a basis for the focus and design of the research and relevant data for the discussion of its results. In the empirical part, a mixed- methods research design is presented. The main aim is to find out whether subjective ratings of selected general skills and soft competences important for employment differ between young people from children's homes and young people growing up in families. The investigation is based on a methodological triangulation of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and is...
Support for a beginning teacher in kindergarten
Šmolíková, Hana ; Valášková Vincejová, Eva (advisor) ; Novotná, Veronika (referee)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is the support of beginning teachers in kindergartens. The aim of this paper is to find out what kind of support is offered to novice kindergarten teachers and whether this support is sufficient. The theoretical part contains basic concepts which are used in this paper. Further presented are different kinds of support that beginning kindergarten teachers can make use of. The research part of this thesis describes the process of a survey, which was carried out through eight narrative interviews. Before the interviews took place, respondents filled out an online questionnaire which served as preliminary research. The results of this survey show that novice teachers find the most support in their mentors and in observing lessons given by experienced colleagues. That is why it is necessary to train mentors as well as possible to provide the best support possible. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
