Social services for families with children with ASD
NOVOTNÁ, Kristýna
The bachelor thesis aims to analyse, what social services are used by families with children suffering from autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). The study is divided into two parts - theory and research. The initial theoretical part is further separated into four chapters. The first chapter defines ASD as it is, the second one follows with focus on the issue of ASD in the context of the family. The third chapter relates to the social services offered to these families and in the last chapter a description of the social security, which is intended for these families, is outlined. According to the theoretical framework, a qualitative research strategy, a polling method, and a semi-structured interview technique were chosen to achieve the given objective of the thesis. For the research purposes, families with children aged between 6 and 18 suffering from ASD and simultaneously using the social services, were selected. The interviews were conducted with a total of eight informants, some of whom were from the author´s wider family and others were selected using the snowball method. Subsequently, the interviews were exactly rewritten and evaluated using the open coding method and the pencil - paper technique. This bachelor thesis can be used as study material or as feedback, especially for organisations in which families with children suffering from ASD use the social services. Through the research, the thesis identifies that parents of the children suffering from ASD use five specific social services that help them either to use their free time for themselves to rest or to take care for other family members. Without social services, families would hardly imagine their day-to-day life, which is very demanding because of the ASD disease.
Action plans and protection of ground squirrels
Novotná, Kristýna ; Matějů, Jan (advisor) ; Reif, Jiří (referee)
Unfortunately, the number of endangered species is still increasing, in most cases due to the human activities. The main aim of the protection of species is to provide conditions for survival of endangered species in nature. However, for some species the common instruments of protection (such as protection of habitat) are not sufficient and it is necessary to use some special methods. For these species are organized so-called action plans. Among such species belongs the European Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus citellus). We can find also other endangered species within ground squirrels from the tribe Marmotini Pocock, 1923 as well. These species need the special protection methods, like captive breeding, repatriation and translocation of individuals or special management of the habitat. In this work are processed data about protection of genera Cynomys, Marmota and Spermophilus, especially White-tailed Prairie Dog (C. leucurus), Utah Prairie Dog (C. parvidens), Alpine Marmot (M. marmota), Vancouver Island Marmot (M. vancouverensis), Idaho Ground Squirrel (S. brunneus), European Ground Squirrel (S. citellus), Franklin's Ground Squirrel (S. franklinii), Speckled Ground Squirrel (S. suslicus) and Washington ground squirrel (S. washingtoni). Actual status and cause of endangerment are given for each...
Advances in treatment of human trypanosomiasis
Novotná, Kristýna Klára ; Mach, Jan (advisor) ; Grekov, Igor (referee)
Sleeping sickness is a human disease found in sub-saharan Africa, and is caused by a parasitic protozoan Trypanosoma brucei. Trypanosoma brucei species infects various mammals, however, only Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense subspecies are resistant to trypanolytic factors found in human blood serum. This work briefly summarizes known operating mechanisms of trypanolytic factors and resistance mechanisms of trypanosomes to these factors. The work covers mainly description and summarization of current diagnostic methods of sleeping sickness and used trypanocidal drugs. Majority of introduced methods shows high levels of sensitivity and specificity, however, for poor, disease affected areas they are often way too expensive. Prescribed drugs are expensive as well, and what's more, they are often ineffective against both subspecies and have severe side effects. Last part of the work is dedicated to potential development of new medicaments.
Outpatient delivery from the point of view of a midwife and child nurse
NOVOTNÁ, Kristýna
This thesis deals with outpatient childbirth, and the opinions of midwives, pediatric nurses and women on this topic. The first goal was to find out the opinions of midwives and pediatric nurses on outpatient birth and the second goal was to find out the reasons that women choose for outpatient delivery. This work is divided into two sections, the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part describes the competencies of midwives and pediatric nurses, the process of childbirth from admission to the delivery room, ultimately to the fourth stage of labor. Furthermore we describe the first treatment of the newborn, room-in neonatal care, examination of the newborn by a doctor and neonatal screenings. Furthermore, the theoretical work focuses on outpatient childbirth itself, following the law, and addressing outpatient childbirth complications from the perspective of both the mother and the newborn. The practical section consists of the methodology, results and discussion. The method of data collection was a semi-structured interview, whereby the research included midwives, pediatric nurses, and motherswho experienced an outpatient delivery. Interviews took place in March 2019. If the informant agreed, the interview was recorded, but in case of disagreement, spoken responses were recorded on paper. To maintain anonymity, the informants were designated as DS, PA, and Ž. Based on the obtained data categories and subcategories were created. Two categories were created for midwives and pediatric nurses (Outpatient Childbirth, Care during Outpatient Childbirth), which were subsequently developed into subcategories. Women after outpatient delivery had data divided into four categories (Previous births, Outpatient delivery, Postpartum care, Reactions of neighbors). Two goals were set for this bachelor thesis, on the basis of which three research questions were created. The first question dealt with the view of midwives on outpatient birth. Research has shown that none of the midwives took a negative attitude and are certainly not trying to change women's decisions about having an outpatient delivery. In this case, they are glad that women did not choose to give birth at home, this way the woman is under trained supervision in case of unexpected complications. The second research question examined the opinion of pediatric nurses on outpatient delivery. The research showed that more than half of nurses do not take a negative attitude towards this decision, and only one pediatric nurse doesn't recommend outpatient delivery even in a case of physiological pregnancy. Pediatric nurses educate women about the care of the newborn, necessary post-partum examinations, and where to go and what to do in case any complications occur. The third research question deals with the reasons for women to decide for outpatient delivery. Research has shown that women are most often led to this decision for the need of a more peaceful and their domestic environment, or negative prior experience that involved lack of communication or lack of sufficient information. The women also suffered from frequent staff interference, loss of privacy and the alienating regime of the delivery room, and therefore opted for outpatient delivery. The research showed that the majority of medical staff do not show a negative attitude towards outpatient births and try to reach a certain compromise related to hospitalization and dismissal. It also showed that the interest in outpatient births is risingslightly.
