Nuremberg woodblock printings of Erhard Schön in Olomouc and Skalice (16th -20th century)

The thesis is monitored a movement of woodblock printings of graphic Erhard Schön from Nuremberg to Morava. And then the movement to Prostějov, Olomouc and later to Skalice where they were used until the 19th century. These woodcuts were created during the 1620s and they were taken by the printer Jan Günther in the 1640s. Thesis briefly presented a chapbook, its history of development and splitting. This thesis clarifies a historical connections between printer offices in the above mentioned cities. Special focus on pilgrimage woodblock printings Aesop's fables between the printer offices in Prostějov, Olomouc and Skalice from 16th to 20th century.
The acquisition strategy of foreign-language books in public libraries: A comparative study

Public libraries are facing a great challenge to succeed in serving their increasingly diverse communities. This thesis focuses on the acquisition of foreign-language books in public libraries and attempts to address the question whether libraries have special strategies to select and acquire foreign-language books. Particular attention is paid to fiction, the main genre offered by public libraries. To help answer the thesis question, the author compares the acquisition strategies of the Municipal Library of Prague and the Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin using structured interviews with the key persons responsible for the acquisition of foreign-language books. As a background, the author provides a literature review of foreign-language materials in public libraries and specifically, the acquisition strategy for those materials (i.e. including case studies, research projects and trends from the Czech Republic, the US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Denmark and Netherlands). This knowledge foundation is considered in the comparison of the two libraries and their acquisition strategies. Historical collection of rare books in the Liberec Research Library

The bachelor thesis informs in detail about the Historical collection of the Regional research library in Liberec. Close attention is paid to the process of its establishment, development and current state in the context of the history of this institution and the Liberec region. First of all, the structure of the Historical collection is specified according to the type of a document. Then, the number of volumes, their thematic and time definition, physical condition and the date of edition are judged. Special attention is also given to the concrete books demonstrating unique characteristics. With regard to the current state of the collection, the standard of its processing, the conditions of preservation and protection of the collection, the ways and possibilities of access to the volumes, as well as the course of the digitalization of the collection are examined. The bachelor thesis presents the historical picture of the large library collection and its importance and utility in these days. Finally, the paper presents important findings, the author's own evaluation and possible future development of the collection.

The diploma thesis deals with questions of predominantly information ethics and encounter in practice. The aim of the thesis is to describe and analyze the ethical problems associated with information institutions, as well as to conduct research in Czech libraries. The work is divided into five parts. The first part deals with the theory of several types of ethics, describes the information society and also presents a topic of creative common theme as a topic of citation ethics. The second part deals with the codes of ethics of some information institutions, then devoted to libraries as a main interest of the work, described their definition and system in the Czech Republic. Past and Present of the Convent Library of Saints Thomas in Prague

Monastery library of Order of Hermits of Saint Augustin in Prague is an outstanding book collection of considerable scientific and historical value. Nowadays, it consists of more than 18 000 volumes. Saint Thomas monastery was founded by Wenceslaus II. in 1278 and had, from the very beginning,, a leading role among other monasteries of this order in Bohemia. From the early 14th century an Augustinian university was run there - as the only one in vast province of Bavaria, to which Bohemia belonged. In the 17th century, an independent Bohemian province was established and Saint Thomas monastery became a natural centre of it. This diploma thesis aims to provide an overview of a history of library and to introduce significant members of Augustinian order, who contributed to development (in time of prosperity) of library. Author is particularly focused on early modern period, to which scholars have not paid attention yet, and events connected to the end of the Thirty Years War, when, as it was assumed in the past, the library sustained big damage. Reaction of librarians to political and social situation in 1968

This bachelor thesis deals with the librarian activity in the period of the Prague Spring in 1968. Its main goal is to determine, based on the period press, the degree of involvement of the librarians in the reform process, the support as well as the criticism of the contemporary state and their demands for changes, in both professional and labour spheres. It describes the process of formation of the Association of Library and Information Professionals. It also discusses the relationship with the Slovak librarianship and the founding of the Slovak library association. The final part deals with the specific political activity of the librarians which is illustrated by the reactions to on-going changes during the reform process. That includes the reaction to the Action Program of the Communist Party and the support for this program, the reaction to the Warsaw Letter from July 1968 and the subsequent August occupation.
"The Obituary of the Dietrichstein Library": The Story of the Mikulov Manor Library between the Two World Wars

The Master's thesis follows the unusual fate of the castle library in Mikulov. This library belonging to the family of Dietrichstein-Mensdorff-Pouilly was sold off through auctions in the times of the so-called Czechoslovak First Republic (1933, 1934). A part of its stock became a property of today's Moravian provincial library in Brno and some of the old manuscripts were sold to other institutions in Czechoslovakia. The thesis focuses on the position of the aristocratic family of the Dietrichsteins which was connected with the legal institution of fideicommissum, the cancellation of which led to the selling off of the Mikulov castle library. Moreover, the thesis deals with a comparison of the above mentioned situation and the other castle library sales between the two world wars. Over 200 000 items were sold from the Mikulov library, most of them being old and valuable books. The Castle Library Sychrov - History and Structure

in English: The topic of this Diploma Thesis is the Sychrov Castle Library, which belonged to the Rohan noble clan. The aim of this Thesis was to evaluate the proveniencial, thematic, linguistic and quantitative representation of individual titles. The introduction presents the aim of the work and its structure. The subsequent chapters focus briefly on the history of the Sychrov Castle and the history of the Rohans, mainly the Rohan-Guémené line, since the members of the clan who settled at the Sychrov Castle came from that line. Details are given about the representatives of the nobility clan who had substantial influence on the appearance and composition of the castle library. The fourth chapter is devoted to the Sychrov Castle Library itself and familiarises readers with catalogues, book quantities, document issue dates, information about the oldest and newest titles, the language composition of the library's collection and preserved exlibris, supralibros and ownership inscriptions. The most extensive chapter, the fifth one, focuses on the content characteristics of the Sychrov Castle Library's collection. The thesis deals with the book collection of the Capuchin monastery in Sušice. It conducts a survey of the history of the collection and elaborates its characteristics in terms of content and language. It carries out provenance research in the collection and looks into the reading culture of the rural monastery. The structure of the work is built on four pillars, each of them expressed in an individual chapter. The first part deals with the historical circumstances related to the arrival of the Capuchin Order in Bohemia and the founding of the monastery in Sušice. These events led to the creation of the monastic library. The second point is a summary discussion about the monastic library, its content and impact on the book culture in Sušice. The third pillar is built upon information on the development and fate of the library in the 20th century. The present status and recent functions of this historical collection is described here in detail. The final part deals with the topic of reading. The conclusion summarizes the results reached.
Restoration Information System ResIS comprehensive documentation of the physical condition of rare library holdings

In comprehensive thesis are characterized particular collections of photographic documentation of historical library holdings which were found during the survey of secondary image information. The possibilities of documentation use from different time periods are mentioned during restoration works, conservation surveys and in specific cases of damage or total loss of the original. In detail are described essential factors affecting the quality of image recording and typical types of photographic documentation on so-called surrogates, which are under selective digitization incorporated into the digital archive of Restoration information system ResIS. Other part of thesis is devoted to the methodology of digitizing the photographic documentation on surrogates, which includes the building up archival organizing system. In part of analysis are mentioned the most important metadata formats for the description of historical written monuments and their field of application. The mapping of selected TEI P5 ENRICH metadata elements into the proposed hierarchical structure was solved in order to create new TEI_RESIS format.
