The situation of Ukrainian women and children after Fleeing the war conflict and their adaptation in social and societal conditions in the Czech Republic
Snopová, Adéla ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Lokšík, Martin (referee)
In 2022, an armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine began, known as the Russian invasion or the Russian-Ukrainian war. Russian aggression against Ukraine culminated in an attack on 24 February 2022, making the conflict the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II. Russia has sent its troops into Ukrainian territory under the pretext of protecting Russian citizens and Ukrainian pro-Russian separatists. This was the culmination of several weeks of high tension, when Russia carried out military exercises near the Ukrainian border and massed troops in the Crimea and Donbas regions. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky declared mobilisation immediately after Russian troops crossed the Ukrainian border. The European Union, the United States and other countries have condemned Russia's aggression and have provided military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Sanctions have been imposed on Russia. This conflict has caused global political tension and raised fears of a further deterioration in relations between Russia and the West. At the time of writing this thesis, it has been over a year since the Russian aggression on Ukraine. The war is still ongoing and, according to Ukrainian authorities, has already claimed tens of thousands of civilian casualties. The television documentary entitled:...
The Shiraz Art Festival (1967-1977) through the lens of historical memory
Macková, Veronika ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Kříhová, Zuzana (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the Festival of Arts in Shiraz, which took place in 1967-1977. The question asked by author asks is whether the festival could function as an autonomous art zone or whether the art scene was intertwined with the socio-political climate of Iran at that time. Using theories of collective and historical memory, significant festival events are analyzed and placed in a broader historical context. Both positive and critical reactions to the festival are examined. As the Festival also enters into contemporary cultural debates, this bachelor thesis focuses on the controversy between two curators who take opposing positions on the festival. The author concludes the thesis by noting that the festival did not take place in isolation from political events; rather, it was a symptom and later a catalyst of the complicated social tensions in Iran in the second half of the 1970s.
Meditační zahrada
Máčková, Veronika
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to clarify and define meditation garden by means of reference examples. In its first part, the thesis provides examples of religious-themed gardens, places of reverence, and even landscapes with contemplative potential which might serve as inspirational mediums. It further discusses manifestations of environmental art that by its own nature is capable of initiating thought processes in the viewer inclining him to contemplate. The theory is followed by a practical part which accounts for the means of achieving the meditation function. The intention is to mediate food for the soul through harmony and peaceful atmosphere that encourages self-development and finding and pursuing of one's life path. The goal is to enrich peoples' lives with spiritual dimension which in this case is facilitated through garden architectonic creation. The area surrounding the Holy Family Church in Trenčín was chosen to serve as a model in the design section. The design study itself is preceded by an analysis of the object. Ideological concept of the design is based on the philosophy of Christian meditation. However, the intellectual content is rather symbolic and the meditation garden thus remains open to everyone. Regardless of one's belief, it avoids any discouragement, displeasure or insult. The study is consecutively supported by situation, perspectives, axonometric projection, cuts and details on particular scale.
Female Journalists' Labor Law Conditions and Its Impact on Parenthood Planning
Zanga, Clara ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
This masters' thesis focuses on the labour law conditions of female journalists in the context of the deteriorating quality of the media labour market and how these conditions have affected or are affecting women journalists' motherhood planning. The interviews with ten respondents working in Prague's national newsrooms were analysed using the grounded theory method. The resulting theory, which emerged from a three-stage analysis, describes the factors that influence the maternity planning of women journalists in the context of working conditions. The interpretation of the data also answers questions about respondents' experiences of atypical contracts, how working conditions affect their experiences, or what strategies journalists are using to combine work and care, or what strategies they are considering for the future.
Paid Content of the internet version of the sports daily Sport - case study
Chroust, Karel ; Turková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
The diploma thesis "Paid content of the Internet mutation of the sports newspaper Sport - a case study" deals with paid content on the Internet mutation of the Sports newspaper. Paid content has been booming in recent years, and more and more readers are willing to pay for quality news. The work provides a comprehensive description of the form of paid content on a narrowly specialized sports medium. The practical part consists of the main research question "What form does paid content take on a specialized medium?" In my opinion, for quality paid content, the following trinity is required to work together - content, editors, subscribers. In my thesis, I will focus on the first two areas - content and editorial. First, I will conduct a quantitative content analysis of articles that have been published in premium content. I will answer a series of secondary research questions through quantitative content analysis. This will give me enough information about the form of the content. However, since the editorial information cannot be found, I will interview them to find out what benefits this content brings them.

Stricker, Annika Maria ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
Author: Annika Stricker, BA Supervisor: doc. PhDr. Alice Němcová Tejkalová, Ph.D. Master Thesis: How Gendered Discrimination limits Women's Professional Practice in Conflict Reporting in Latin America English Abstract As war journalism is widely regarded as a men's domain, gendered discrimination limits women's professional practice in conflict reporting in Latin America. A continent, which is not only the deadliest region for journalists worldwide but also overly sexist due to patriarchal structures deeply rooted within Latin American cultures called "machismo". Based on a feminist theoretical framework and a phenomenological approach, female journalists' experiences and coping mechanisms with gendered discrimination were examined by conducting semi-structured interviews with ten Latin American journalists. The study shows, that female journalists in Latin America are sexualized, valued for their looks instead of their journalistic skills and often denied to cover certain beats and topics. This censors and silences female journalists as they are changing the way they practice journalism by not taking on risky tasks, moving to another country or stop exercising journalism altogether. However, female journalists in Latin America also developed progressive coping mechanisms such as taking safety measures and...
Tik Tok News: An analysis of users' perception of journalistic content on Tik Tok
Alves Faria, Giovana ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Turková, Kateřina (referee)
Considering the significant number of news outlets branching out to the Tik Tok app, more research on this format of news delivery and users' perception is crucial. Through a mixed- method study of qualitative content analysis, sentiment analysis of comments, and semi- structured interviews with 12 followers of each Tik Tok account, this study aimed at understanding how active users perceive the news on Tik Tok. The results show that the Accessibility, Style, Didactics, and Creativity resources are the ones that most encourage people to follow news on Tik Tok and in the specific media chosen for this study: Folha de S. Paulo, Estadão, NBC News, and Washington Post. This study also suggested two possible frameworks in which journalism on Tik Tok can be inserted: (1) Ambient Journalism (Hermida, 2010); and, (2) X Journalism (Loosen, Ahva, Reimer, Solbach, Deuze, and Matzat, 2020).

The rise of the robo-journalists: What human journalists think of the creativity of their AI colleagues
Ellekrog, Ole Bøgh ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (referee)
The limits and potentials of robo-journalism and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has entered journalism in recent years, are important to track and predict. To do this, this thesis interviewed and surveyed five top researchers and eight journalists from newsrooms across Europe, all working closely with AI. Specifically, the thesis focuses on creativity, a concept that has been suggested as a potential limit to AI. In the thesis, a list of places where AI is already in use and a list of tasks in journalism that require creativity are compiled and compared. Potential limits to AI and potential threats posed by AI are also identified. Further, a mini-Turing Test is conducted, suggesting that human texts may be preferable to readers, no matter its content. In the end, the thesis concludes that AI in journalism is on the verge of surpassing humans in certain tasks but that it may never be able to mimic "the human touch" of creative journalism. Keywords Artificial Intelligence, AI, robo-journalism, journalism, creativity, creative journalism, European journalism, the human touch, Turing Test,
