Chmelařová, Eva ; Blažek, Jiří (advisor) ; Marek, David (referee)
Is there any link between hierarchy of transnational corporations, banks and research and development institutions? Abstract The world city theory focuses on concentration of the most progressive activities of the social-economic system in a few key cities that together have a major share of command and control power within the global economy. Location advantages of such cities attract TNC headquarters, financial services and R&D facilities. Interactions between them lead to further strengthening of the position of the global city and it brings a cumulative effect on the location advantages. This paper examines the global city hierarchy based on the data on 1 500 world's biggest companies headquarters location, as well as location of 1 500 most important R&D institutions and 200 biggest banks. According to the results the triad of New York, London and Tokyo was taken over by Beijing. Correlation analysis of the city rankings in all of the three hierarchies confirms significant geographical link between global arrangement of TNC headquarters, financial services and R&D institutions. Keywords: global city, TNCs, banks, RIS, research and development, geographical organization

Approximative Bayes methods for belief monitoring in spoken dialogue systems
Marek, David ; Jurčíček, Filip (advisor) ; Žabokrtský, Zdeněk (referee)
The most important component of virtually any dialog system is a dialogue manager. The aim of the dialog manager is to propose an action (a continuation of the dialogue) given the last dialog state. The dialog state summarises all the past user input and the system input and ideally it includes all information necessary for natural progress in the dialog. For the dialog manager to work efficiently, it is important to model the probability distribution over all dialog states as precisely as possible. It is possible that the set of dialog states will be very large, so approximative methods usually must be used. In this thesis we will discuss an implementation of approximate Bayes methods for belief state monitoring. The result is a library for dialog state monitoring in real dialog systems. 1

Marek, David ; Žížalová, Pavla (advisor) ; Švejda, Pavel (referee)
Czechia seeks to respond to the challenges coming with the development of knowledge-based economy. It builds up innovation infrastructure with the aim of filling the gap between research institutions and application sector, especially private firms. Tools lowering the barriers for the diffusion of technological progress include science and technology parks (STP). STP operate as a platform interconnecting actors involved in the innovation process, they initiate a knowledge transfer and provide specialized business services, all aimed at developing innovative entrepreneurship and research commercialization. Flood of new STP in Czechia draws attention to their particular characteristics and their efficiency. An extensive survey analyzes the role of Czech STP in innovative entrepreneurship development. The evaluation consists of two levels. The first describes the strategic profile of each of the parks and search for common characteristics. The other observes innovation activity of tenant firm separately for the period before and after joining the STP. In addition, the thesis discusses socio-economic context from which innovation infrastructure originates, and factors influencing its efficiency. Author distinguishes 4 specific types in the sample of 22 STP. Evidence of 78 tenant firms suggests a positive effect...
The potential use of artificial nests for the management of Peregrine Falcon in industrial areas
Marek, David ; Zasadil, Petr (advisor) ; Kouba, Marek (referee)
In my Bachelor Thesis I have focused on presentation of a project concerning location of artificial birdhouses at two particularly selected chimneys situated within an industrial park called Chempark Záluží in Litvínov. Those two birdhouses were installed in the industrial park, as peregrines (falcons) settling in these nests was anticipated. The project launched in 2011 and successfully continues up to now. This project is one of most successful projects focused on creating new nesting opportunities for falcons, fixed on one specific industrial park. Fifteen falcon pups were successfully brought up to 2015. Presentation of the project aims to spread such an activity on other suitable places and integration of wide public into other activities, directed on protection of falcons on our territory, which are as well presented in this thesis, including assessment of their importance.
